The wonderful welcome everyone got as they walked into the pub - Vicky is an outstanding landlady; she work’s incredibly hard and always maintains a smile.
The food was delicious especially the scrumptious Sunday lunch, even without me peas 😂- everything is reasonably priced.
Our room was spotless- it provided us with everything we needed.
The pub is ideally placed for travelling around.
Even some of the locals were friendly - something you simply don’t find in some areas.
Some reviews complain about the road - really !
We live in a rural area - traffic for us is rare but honestly if you fill your day with fun you won’t even notice the traffic- it’s not like sirens go blaring up and down constantly.
Our only personal grip was the hardness of the bed in room 5. That is purely personal preference- I’m sure when we return, if we ask, Vicky would do her best to find us something a little bit softer

Everything was perfect, except for the old mattress.
The old mattress felt like a bag filled with pine cones. I tried turning it over but that didn’t help. I ended up sleeping on the blanket. I had to put on my street clothing (otherwise it would be cold to sleep without a blanket) and to sleep like a homeless person.

Beautiful rooms & lovely food
Was confused with the: “tell us what you don’t want” for breakfast rather than what you want!

Breakfasts were tasty hot and freshly cooked, Lovely hosts, lovely clean, comfy rooms with a generous tea and coffee facility. Evening meal menu was nicely varied and good value too.
Nothing to complain about, near a main road, but we slept well, even with a window ajar.

Evening meal really nice and good value.
Room large, king size bed, generally comfortable.
Cosy bar area.
Friendly staff.
No breakfast choice and no offer of extra juice, coffee or toast.
Instant coffee not ground coffee.
We thought £135 per night was high for mid week in February.

Great location and a very good breakfast

Usual choice for breakfast ,well cooked and plenty of it , set you up for the day. Location suited us , might not suit others as it is alongside road nothing much around. Nothing too much trouble for Vicky & Daryl (owners) and their staff.
Sitting here thinking of what we didn't like , nothing comes to mind.

Lovely staff, relaxing atmosphere, good food and a great location for exploring the Peak District.
We made use of their DVD collection each evening.

Warm welcome, lovely room, very clear COVID measures, smashing breakfast and evening meal. Quiet, good night's sleep. All good!

The choices for breakfast suited my tastes and the proprietors were always keen to please. The traditional English version used quality local produce and was well cooked. A great base for exploring the local area, whether for Rambling, Cycling or more sedentary pursuits.
My visit was subject to the usual Covid precautions, though, these were no real impediment.

Very friendly, cosy pub. Staff were exceptionally friendly, food was brilliant. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Excellent value for money. Would definitely stay again.
Nothing really, no complaints.

Great location and food brill. Staff very helpfull.
Loo was positioned in a tight space, and a bit a wriggle to get into.

Nice and remote and the staff were welcoming and friendly.
The bed was too hard for us

Food, staff, cleaning and many locals all welcoming. We were helped by all with local knowledge that made our weekend great despite the pouring rain.
The only point of observation and certainly not a complaint was that the nature of the car parking surface which was a white chalky surface and stones which, when wet, left a white wetness on footwear that was left on the car carpets. As our car was black it showed up. But, so what - the carpets will hopefully wash off.
4.2
Good selection of evening meals with generous portions. Spacious room.
Disappointed that breakfast was either cereal or cooked breakfast.
Some road noise

Good value food, drink and a comfortable bed
Bar was uncomfortably crowded when we arrived. Dining area was much better spaced. Room didn't have a lot of natural light.
4.2
The rooms were decorated nicely, clean & bright
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. They kindly accommodated my little dog & as she eats raw food, they kept it in the fridge for me. We had a warm welcome & the rooms were lovely. I would stay again 😀
4.2
Not pretentious
Close to busy road
