For the bird watchers there are numerous nature reserves close by including sites at Titchwell Marsh, Minsmere and Lakenheath Fen.

We are on the edge of the vast Thetford Forest, a beautiful 21,000 hectare pine forest. Public access to the forest is very good and High Lodge, located between Thetford and Brandon, is a popular attraction with its walks, cycle tracks which include a black run (bikes can be hired there) and Go Ape the high-wire forest adventure.
Close by is Peddars Way (and other long distance footpaths), West Stow Anglo-Saxon village, Grimes Graves neolithic flint mines, Banham Zoo (also has a Sunday boot fair), Castle Acre castle and priory, Snetterton Race Circuit (plus its huge Sunday market) and Pensthorpe Nature Reserve the venue of Springwatch for 2008 and 2009.

Well we found a real gem with this property! Travelling as a retired couple, we were looking for a location that gave access to northern Norfolk but also a property that was quiet, spacious and well appointed. The Fairview Apartment ticked all of these boxes and more. Lovely views onto the golf course and plenty of wildlife to see from the nice outdoor area. The apartment itself was very comfortable and lacked for nothing. Close to Watton high street there were plenty of options for eating out and for grocery shopping. Alasdair. the owner, was very attentive and was very helpful with local knowledge. Watton has good access to the coastal area (though some roads are small, there are plenty of tractors around, and places like Cromer are popular so parking can be difficult). Norwich is a very nice city (recommend the park & ride) and Ely is lovely and well worth a visit. Kings Lynn has an interesting historical walk though the town centre is a bit over developed. Oxburgh Hall is under renovation but Blinkling Estate (National Trust) is a more than adequate replacement with a nice walk around the grounds, gardens and the House itself. All in all, a really enjoyable week and an excellent property to use as a base.
