About this cabin rental
Bring your family and friends to experience the wonders of nature from this idyllic oceanfront compound with 2 cottages (total bedrooms: five bedrooms + loft), where five generations of kin have gathered to enjoy Mt. Desert Island from its lovely western bay. With Squid Cove on one side and Goose Marsh Pond on the other, this secluded 42-acre retreat with two separate cabins is sure to provide for a summer vacation not soon forgotten. From Camp Ouloncuit, watch the osprey fish, the bald eagles soar, and the seals soak up the sun. At low tide, discover the starfish, mussels and sea urchins. And for the more adventurous, run the tidal rapids in your canoe or kayak, or journey further to the bay at the end of Squid Cove. Whether exploring nature, relaxing in a hammock, or just comfortably sitting on the front porch taking in the view, Camp Ouloncuit provides many ways to unwind and recharge.
*Note: we rent both cabins together during our summer season, mid-June to early August. Sleeps 12; 1-2 additional guests (up to 14 total) can be accommodated for a per person fee. Beginning the Saturday after Labor Day to the end of October, we rent the new cabin only (max. 6 people). Rates and individualized lease agreement reflect these differences.
2025 rates and dates are now posted. For reservations in 2026, please wait until August 2025 to check.
Original cabin: Camp Ouloncuit’s original rustic cottage, built in 1924, features an open living and dining area with a large stone hearth and fireplace. Many of the comfortable daybeds and built-in sofa benches were crafted from local timber by the original owner. The modernized kitchen with built-in table for up to six and adjacent pantry retain rustic charm, yet still offer a full set of appliances, including microwave and dishwasher. Master bedroom with king bed and stone hearth and fireplace enjoy the sounds of nearby rapids as well as a private full bathroom with double vanity and combined tub and shower. Two attached bunk rooms with two separate bathrooms and shared shower/tub room can accommodate up to seven people with one queen-sized bed and 5 twin-sized lower bunks. These bunk rooms are accessed through a covered porch walkway from the main cabin.
New cabin: built in 2000, Camp Ouloncuit’s newer cottage has been featured in Yankee Magazine. The new cabin retains the spirit of the original cabin, built with local pine and spruce building materials, but adds modern comforts like radiant floor heating. The open living and dining area offers a farmhouse-style dining table for 8 to 10, a large stone hearth and fireplace, and additional daybeds and sofa benches. The galley-style kitchen combines the rustic charm of country shelving with the modern appeal of granite counters and stainless steel appliances. The master bedroom with king bed enjoys a large private bathroom with double vanity and walk-in shower. Second bedroom has king bed. Loft bedroom with two single beds is accessed via an open staircase from the living area. Shared full bathroom with combined tub and shower.
Porch/deck: both the original and new cabins offer two separate decks with furnishings so that one can enjoy a view of either Goose Marsh Pond or Squid Cove -- take your pick! In addition to the large rolling Weber grill, the front deck at the new cabin offers a built-in fireplace for barbecuing.
Studio building: A one-room studio for daytime use, situated behind the two houses and overlooking Goose Marsh Pond, provides a retreat for individual work or escape (with WiFi) during the summer.
Appliances: each house offers standard kitchen appliances including gas stove, microwave and dishwasher, as well as clothes washer and dryer (all linens are included in the rental). One TV with DVD player.
Extras: private dock.

Our family of 2 grandparents, 4 parents, and 3 young people ages 10 - 14 gathered at Camp Ouloncuit to celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary. It is a beautiful wooded location with great views looking out over the water. We enjoyed the privacy of the camp and the access it provided to Acadia National Park and the surrounding area. The 2 houses worked out very well for us. We would return to this property.

Communication with owner awesome. This place is magical. We were so content to just stay on property, but did leave to go into town, and activities. It was perfect for multiple family members. We were even able to get mussels right on property and this kept the kids busy.

My family really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. Short distance away from Bar Harbor & Northeast / Southwest Harbors. Communication was seamless with the owner. The cabin had everything we needed. The oversized fireplace was great for fires at the end of a long day of activities. The kitchen was well equipped. The views are really nice from both the front and back of the cabin. We will no doubt return.

Our group of 4 families has vacationed and stayed with each other all over the nation and I have to say this property takes the cake. If you should be so lucky as to stay here you will not be disappointed! We had rain every day for the first half of our week which would have been pretty disappointing at any other property, but we loved every minute of it because of what this property is. Highly recommend and hope to be able to come back again some day!

This space for our family of 11 was very adequate.
Property was clean, well equipped and held bird and sunset surprises..spectacular . It was quiet with great window views of the wooded property . This was our 11 family trip to Maine and this house was voted our favorite. Thank you owners for caring for it so well.
Well water supplied us with delicious water that we needed to use wisely as to not empty the well, but with 11 given water resourceful tips we did fine. We will be back!! Renae Pieters

The listing does not do this place justice; We literally got out of the car giggling like idiots because it looked so incredible and it just kept impressing. Excellent amenities, incredible location, well stocked kitchen. We will absolutely be back next year!

My husband, sister and husband, and I stayed for a second year in a row. This is one of the most magnificent places we have ever rented. The new cottage is absolutely beautiful and so comfortable. You will be surrounded by water on three sides and the grounds are gorgeous. The night sky has SO many stars! The property is located a short drive from Bar Harbor as well as Southwest Harbor. Lynn was a pleasure to work with as our host and everything went so smoothly. I have the mention the comfortable beds and showers too, that's a must on vacation! If you are lucky enough to rent this place you will be very happy.

As described in other reviews, both the homes (old and new) are great, beautifully equipped and decorated in true Maine style, and the property is amazing. We rented kayaks for the week and went every day. Swimming off the dock (for older kids and adult swimemrs) was great. The water was surprisingly warm, i.e., not frigid! Bring water shoes and tons of bug spray and you will have a wonderful time! This is a great location for those who want to be in nature and quiet, away from all the hubbub. The houses have everything you want and nothing you don't. Perfection!

Our family bonded in this unique tranquil and very private environment. We all love nature and enjoyed the haunting calls of the loons, while relaxing in the peace and serenity of lush landscapes. This quintessential, idyllic location made for a very special vacation that we will not soon forget. The accommodations were superb and very spacious. Four teenage cousins and two adults stayed in the "bunk house" and four adults stayed in the new house. The 10 of us gathered for dinner in the new house. Hiking, fishing with Bar Harbor close by. . Thank you for sharing your beautiful “slice of heaven.”

I hesitate to rave too much about this place, for fear I’ll never be able to get a reservation again. However, putting that aside, imagine a beautiful cabin in the woods situated on the tip of a peninsula with ocean inlets on three sides. On either side of the cabin are porches where you can sit and watch the sun set over the water, or listen to wild loons crying, or stare up at the stars, which are brighter and clearer than you can believe. It’s an extremely quiet and private retreat, but only about a 20-minute drive from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The woods around the cabin resemble a park, with soft spongy carpets of moss under the trees. The tide rises and falls about 12 feet a day, which is dramatic, and the water rushes by the end of the peninsula like a river. The camp sits at the end of a long driveway, off a sparsely travelled road, which means you won’t see another living soul unless you venture out for the day. We came in early October, when the leaves were changing, and the entire area was beautiful. If you’re planning on coming at that time next year, please pick another spot and leave this one to us.

Everyone in our group absolutely loved staying here. The cabins were so cool; rustic Maine cabin with modern day amenities (WiFi, dishwashers, many bathrooms, washers and dryers)! The property could not have been any more beautiful and perfect. The pictures don’t truly reflect how beautiful it is there. Both houses had plenty of games, books, kids art supplies and kitchenware. I loved all of the little treasures/keepsakes from guests over the years. There is even a cork board with artwork inspired by the property. We left a watercolor of the sunset. We didn’t want to leave and I hope we return some day.

There could not be a better waterfront setting or more comfortable quarters for a large family. It made for a most memorable Maine experience!

Everything exceeded our expectations! Communication was great, property was clean and has everything you need and more, Views were to die for, and we drove back and forth to Bar Harbor and Acadia at least once or twice a day. Kids had the best time in the bunk rooms and just exploring the property and water and changing tides. We found crabs and starfish and shells. Watched the birds and wildlife. If you have dreamed about a vacation to Maine don’t hesitate to book this beautiful home in the perfect location.

Amazing location (secluded at the end of a point on a sheltered bay). Something for everyone (watch loons, seals and sunset from the porch; paddle around the Squid Cove islands; day trips to the park; shopping in Bar Harbor; the list goes on & on). A truly magical experience.
The only downside was having to leave.

The water views are spectacular from almost every room. Lots of space for the kids to run around and explore. Our group of 12, aged 8-70, was very comfortable on the property. Property managers have thought of every comfort for our stay. We will definitely stay at this property again!

The property and home were both magnificent! The house was clean, beautiful, spacious, warm and comfortable with spectacular water views from every room and porch. The kitchen had a wonderful supply of quality cooking tools and appliances. We loved the array of comfortable couches, chairs and lovely bedrooms. The property was breathtaking and beyond our wildest dreams. Having the privacy and vast water front provided hours of exploring, walking and peaceful reflection! We truly loved our "experience" renting this home!

This property pretty much left us speechless. The beauty of the water and beaches that surrounds the property and abundance of wildlife had our whole family exploring for hours each day! The drastic changes in the tide brought new adventure for my children morning and evening. The house was a perfect fit for our family as well! It was nice to have a well equipped kitchen to cook in and cozy beds to retire to after a long day of hiking! Most hikes In Acadia were close and the farther ones no more than a 20-30 minutes. We definitely enjoyed the peace and serenity of the location and home, and we hope to return in the future!!!!Oh and Lynn was fantastic too, responding promptly to any questions I had.
