About this house rental
On the water with deepwater dock for your boat - this location cannot be beat. This cottage is located on Southport Island, a short five-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Boothbay Harbor. It is perched on the edge of Townsend Gut with water views from every room. You could easily spend the entire day watching the swing bridge open and close for the boats traveling past. Robinson’s Wharf (the island’s most popular restaurant) is a short walk away. The cottage underwent a full renovation in early 2018 and is ready for visitors!
The cottage has an open floor plan with the kitchen opening into the living room. The large bedroom has 1 queen bed and an attached bathroom. This quaint
cottage has all you need for a quiet vacation on the water.
The property is stunning with new professional landscaping and ample space for lawn games or lounging under the large trees while watching the tides rise and fall. There is a dock right on property for those who wish to bring their boat. On those busy summer days you'll hear the noise of the cars crossing the swing bridge.
Southport Island is only a 5 minute drive from downtown Boothbay Harbor – just over the Townsend Gut Swing Bridge. Southport Island is close enough to Boothbay but also has its own restaurants and sites to see. Robinson’s Wharf, Cozy's Dockside and Newagen Inn are highly recommended restaurants on the island. Hendricks Head Beach is located on the west side of the island. Sailing, boating and kayaking are spectacular activities in and around the island. If you want to venture off the island, the Boothbay Harbor Region has extensive nature trails, lake swimming (Knicker Bocker Lake), golfing, an aquarium and one of the best Botanical Gardens in the country.
**you can also rent the 4 bedroom house on the property if you need more space. VRBO listing # 1379766. Contact Kim for more info**
*** SUMMER of '24: The state of Maine is renovating the Historic Southport Swing Bridge that is viewed from the cottage. We have been in close contact with the contractors as we know this will impact our renters. They will be using hand power tools and there will be equipment noise during work hours. The bridge will be available for the usual summer boat traffic, meaning it will swing as needed to allow for boats to pass. The bridge will be down to one lane of car traffic. The construction is due to be complete in May of '25.

Cottage is adorable and functional. Walking distance to Robinson’s Seafood Restaurant. Kayak launch from their dock. Beautiful area for kayaking and osprey watching. Not a biking destination. Is below a noisy bridge from cars traffic as well as construction on bridge. (It’s only drawback.

Beautiful water view and quaint area. Charming cottage, nice yard. Great communication.

The location is great; right in the middle of everything and easy access to town with great dining next door. We were surprised by the close proximity to the road when we arrived but it didn't bother us when we were inside. We loved watching the boats and birds around the bridge and felt the cottage was cozy. We had everything we needed and enjoyed our time there!

Perfect place for us! The location is a bit quirky being directly under a noisy swingbridge but we found it fun to watch and listen to and it didn’t bother us at all. The cottage is beautiful-and spotlessly clean-with great views from every room-and the grounds surrounding it are outstanding. It was a cozy environment with everything you need for a nice stay. Loved it.

This little cottage is perfect for a couple looking to get away, and has the room for additional people on the pull down couch. You can’t beat the water view as you’re quite literally on the water. Complete with outdoor seating and a boat dock, it’s such a nice getaway.

Cottage was adorable, location convenient to Boothbay Harbor and other local spots, especially Robinson's Restaurant. Clean and well furnished. Noise from bridge a bit annoying but never kept us awake - hopefully will be resolved when the bridge is worked on this year!
Thank you!

Well-located, impeccably clean, thoughtfully furnished and decorated, this property was perfect for us. Only possible downside is the bridge noise which has been mentioned. If such things bother you, this is not for you. Otherwise, a gem,

This cottage is very clean, bright and cheery. It was wonderful watching the swing bridge open and seeing all the boats going by. We would definitely stay here again!!!

We had read reviews of the swing bridge noise, but we didn't find it annoying at all. In fact, there is an Osprey nest on top of the bridge that we enjoyed watching as the young birds were learning to fly and leave the nest. Easy access to Southport and Boothbay. Be careful exiting the driveway as the swing bridge operators park to the right of the exit. Very relaxing as we sat in the chairs outside watching the boats enter and exit the bay. Walking distance to Robinson's Wharf. Perfect size for a couple or a couple and young child.

This is a lovely little place very close to a great place for lunch and fantastic lobster rolls. Good parking and lovely lawn, with a picnic table and chairs for watching the boats go by. It is next to a draw bridge and the cars make some noise during the day/evening going over the bridge but it is relatively quiet later at night. The host is very responsive to any questions or concerns: I needed an iron to press clothes for a wedding and couldn’t find it. I contacted Kim and she responded right away. She hadn’t realized the iron was missing and a newly purchased iron was delivered to the cottage that day. Thank you Kim!

Clean and inviting cozy cottage, great views of the osprey nesting on top of the bridge, and gorgeous sunrises. The only issue was the directions for the TV….stated use HDMI 3. This did not exist. It needs to state use HDMI 1.
The bridge noise did not bother us at all. We would stay here again.

Cozy cottage on Townsend Gut, have stayed here several times, works for us, really enjoy it. Very good communication with owner, very clean.

We stayed for 5 days at the cottage next to the Townsend Gut Swing Bridge. This is the only vehicle passageway between lovely Southport and Boothbay. The benefits of staying at this wonderful, pristine property outweighed any noise from the steel plates on the bridge. (Workers actually came while we were there and made some improvements to the plates.) We were prepared for the noise (essential), and as we expected thoroughly enjoyed the boats coming through the Gut, the “swinging” of the bridge itself, the wildlife including a seal one morning, the osprey and her young nesting on the top trestle (still amazed she isn’t bothered by any of the activity), and the 1 minute walk to Robinson’s Wharf (the outside bar is great) and 3 minute drive to the fabulous Southport Grocery. We preferred to be away from the bustle of Boothbay Harbor, but close enough to pop over for Windjammer events, etc. Kim is an excellent manager and communicator. Would book again for sure! Thanks Kim for a wonderful stay!

We loved almost everything about this property. It was sparkling clean, and the view was gorgeous. It was perfect fall weather, with accompanying fall color. It got a bit chilly at night, so we took advantage of the wall unit heaters. We enjoyed walking to Robinson's Wharf for dinner. We also spent time in Boothbay Harbor where we enjoyed a boat tour, shopping, and great food (Blue Moon Cafe for breakfast and Ports of Italy for dinner). The bed was comfy, and we enjoyed the outdoor furniture. We pretty much only used the coffee maker and microwave, as we ate our meals out. We loved watching the lobster boats in the harbor, along with the water birds and one cute seal. The swing bridge adjacent to the cottage was fun to watch, but it was noisy. Actually, it is the approach to the bridge which creates the noise. Thankfully, there isn't much traffic over night, but I have to be honest that the noise detracted somewhat from our enjoyment of our stay. Wonderful weekend!

This place is immaculately kept in all respects inside and out. It is right ON the water, with high tide coming within a few feet of the front wall. The dock is a superb resource and place to sit. The boat traffic through the gut is fascinating and the wildlife varied and abundant. The surroundings are stunning. The owner is very responsive.
All that said, this location is significantly noisy, being almost under a steel deck swing bridge that carries all the traffic (including heavy trucks) to and from Southport Island. The bridge rattles and bangs with every crossing. In the fall the racket starts at 6AM and slows at 8:00PM. You do get used to it, and if you bring a noise covering white noise device (we did based on another review and the location) it helps for sleeping. If you are from an urban street, you won't notice it so much, but the dominant background is always there. Not like unruly neighbors, but industrial sounding background
So would we come again - most likely yes mainly because you are NOT going to find a similarly intimate waterfront setting for a vacation rental in Boothbay.

Let me start by saying that Kim was a wonderful communicator when I was considering this rental. My husband and I have never been to Boothbay before, and we wanted to get away for a weekend to explore and unwind and this cottage fit the bill perfectly. It's the perfect size for a couple and it's right on the water. (Steps away actually). The cottage was supplied with everything that we needed for our weekend. It was very clean as well. There is a main house on the same lot, but it is far enough away from the cottage that you don't feel crowded or that it's invasive of your privacy. We actually enjoyed talking to the folks that were staying in the big house as they were a few couples who get together every year for a reunion. They invited us to share the firepit if we wanted to when we got back from dinner. Speaking of dinner, we went to a place called Port of Italy in Boothbay Harbor and it was so delicious. Authentic Italian cooking! We also went to the Coastal Botanical Gardens and that is a must see when you're in the area. We would definitely go back again to this charming little cottage. The only negative about the cottage (and for us personally it was no big deal) is that you are just about under the swing bridge so you will hear traffic going by. We live on a main road in North Conway, so we are used to hearing traffic so for us it didn't matter. We would recommend this gem of a place highly!

Everything we needed from bath essentials, kitchen essentials and nice outside sitting area to watch the boats and bridge action were great. The metal bridge noise was a little loud but if the windows and doors were closed it wasn't bad at all. We loved the walking distance to Robinson's Wharf - love the lobstahs :)

We enjoyed watching the vintage swinging bridge, complete with an osprey family nesting atop! There’s much to observe in a busy harbor with a wide variety of working lobster boats, sail boats, yachts and what appeared to be training of young would-be captains with boats tethered by a rope in single line formation.
Stylish yet simple furnishings with artistic flair.
Comfortable outdoor furniture with lovely landscaping. Appreciated well designed functioning window coverings.
Supportive and responsive owner helped in seeking needed solutions with excessive temperature issues.
Easy access to nearby restaurants & shops. A most enjoyable and memorable stay!

Rental exactly as described. Checking in contactless. Supplied with code to access rental. Nicely decorated snd comfortable for 2 adults. Enjoyed sitting in yard watching waterfowl and boat traffic. Made a couple of day trips. Ate dinner at Robinson’s Wharf and Ports of Italy. Both great. Hope to return next year.

This cottage is situated on the shore of Townsend’s Gut, adjacent to the revolving bridge that allows boats to pass the bridge. We were entertained from early morning to the middle of the night. An osprey had a nest atop the bridge, which gave us further delight. There was a seafood market within walking distance, a decided-plus. The cottage was a little warm because temps were in the 90s and it’s not insulated. Very comfortable for two people.

Right on the water, very close to Boothbay Harbor and other areas that we went to in Maine. Very nice cottage.

Wonderful Cabin
We had the best time in this cabin. It exceeded our expectations. The interior was very comfortable especially the kitchen/ living area. Beautiful views of the water through the extra large sliding doors. The grounds are landscaped perfectly with a very accessible grill area, picnic tables and outdoor chairs. It was great watching the rotating bridge allow the larger boats come up the channel (known in Maine as the Gut) . There is a restaurant within walking distance serving the best seafood. Overall a great experience in a wonderful location. Will definitely return next year. Don't miss the General store on the island great sandwiches and pizza. Also Cozy dockside Restaurant was outstanding, great food and views. Don't miss out on this great vacation area.

Perfect Weekend
We had an amazing stay at Kim’s place. We were upgraded to the big house since the internet was being fixed at the cottage and the location, the view and the entire experience was wonderful. The property is ideal for a quick hop to Boothbay and right next to Robinson’s Wharf restaurant.
Highly recommend a stay here and will visit again. We miss it already.

cute cottage, fun location
Tiny space. Very inadequate kitchen supplies. Hard to find a pan to work with. Not a lot of choices. Microwave on top of frig!! Dangerous and hard to get out hot liquids and food. Fouton in living room VERY uncomfortable to sit on. Need a real sofa.

On the water.
This is one of the more unique properties I’ve been on. Definitely had all the essentials. Small cabin right on the water. No back deck or yard but the view of the water and bridge was relaxing. Location was close to town. The grounds were clean and well kept. The cabin was fine for two. Would recommend for a couple on a carefree road trip.

Awesome Waterfront Getaway
We absolutely loved staying at this Southport property, directly on the waterfront and close to a fabulous lobster restaurant! The windows in the house afforded fabulous views of the water and all the boat activity. The only drawback was that the cottage and front bedrooms were situated close to the main road, and there was considerable noise even though our stay was in late September. Communication with Kim was wonderful. We would definitely recommend this spot. Sue R (Burlington, MA)

Lovely stay
We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is small but fine for a couple, comfortable and well equipped. The bridge traffic is noisy but tolerable and the location is worth the compromise. The views of Townsend Gut are outstanding; you’d have to be in a boat to be closer to the water. It was fun to watch the bridge openings and there was always something to see. Boats and birds were in abundance, harbor seals came by most days, and once even an eagle! I’d definitely return.

Wonderful and quaint little cottage
My husband and I stayed here for a few nights to celebrate our 20th anniversary. The cottage was very convenient, so fun to be near the water, and owners were Responsive. We enjoyed watching the boats going in and out and heading the sounds of the bridge. We would definitely stay here again.

Cute cottage on the water
Very enjoyable stay. Cottage was very clean and cozy. Didn't realize it was so close to the bridge and noise from traffic crossing it. Would recommend bottled drinking water because of an odd taste to the tap water.

Cute little cottage in a quiet spot by the water
This property was the right size for 2 people. My husband and I enjoyed our stay very much. The house was an 8 Minute drive to downtown boothbay if you want to call it that lol and the town is great if you are looking for the slower pace of things which we love! Would stay here again for sure!

September getaway!
This property was perfect for our first getaway since Covid-19. Close to everything, but just far enough away for some peace and quiet. This place had everything we needed. The owner/property manager was great to work with!!

Looking for a quiet spot but near Boothbay
This charming little spot was perfect for 2. Walking distance to Robinsons and the boat traffic in "the Gut" was entertaining.
