The Rutledge Summer Kitchen was a fantastic 2 BR/2BA quaint property right off the Battery. It’s well-equipped, has plenty of lounging space, extremely comfortable beds, and nicely decorated. One of the best I’ve booked over many years. So much better than staying in a forgettable hotel.

Lovely home in which to immerse yourself in Charleston history! Right next to the Battery; beautiful strolls to amazing restaurants and shops. We had a car, but choose to walk 10-15 minutes instead of spending an hour finding a place to park at the restaurants. This is a 200 year old home so be prepared for the creaky floors (some original to the home, which I loved) but the kitchen and bathrooms are beautifully updated and gorgeous! A great experience and transformation back in time!

The house and location are excellent. Emily the landlord was wonderful and charming. The house was in perfect condition and communication with VRBO and the landlord was excellent. We have stayed there before and will be coming back next year.
thanks, Don Trudell

The kitchen house is absolutely beautiful and we were so very pleased with everything! Emily was so accomodating and she responded very quickly to my questions when finalizing the reservations.
The house is perfect for two couples. The beds are so comfortable and everything was just wonderful!
The driveway is really quite narrow but if you cant fit, there is plenty of parking available on the street.
We had a fantastic experience!

The kitchen house is a historic structure just behind the main house so you have great privacy during your stay. The neighborhood is quiet and far enough away from bars and noisy parties. There is a wonderful park just steps away. Our party consisted of two couples and we really enjoyed each having our own floor and privacy. This location is absolutely perfect for enjoying all the best Charleston has to offer. Our host Emily was very attentive to all our questions and super responsive. I highly recommend staying here when visiting Charleston.

A charming historic property, extremely clean and great location. The owner provided very nice touches such as waters in fridge, coffee bar, snack basket, and bathroom amenities. We had a wonderful stay! Would not recommend for anyone who has a problem with stairs, but if that's not an issue, this is a perfect spot to enjoy all that Charleston has to offer!

My brother and I took a much needed vacation together and decided to explore southern cities we had not been to. We loved Charleston! It’s a beautiful city and the food culture and history are so intertwined. Something neither of us knew about. Emily’s South of Broad home was just beautiful and in a wonderful location. It was a quiet location but close enough to downtown areas that we walked everywhere. The house is spacious, beautifully decorated and the beds wonderful. The outdoor space was great…Guinea hens visited daily and kept up entertained. I would recommend this home to anyone needing peace and quiet but near to restaurants, museums and beautiful parks. Thank you Emily!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this house...it was a treat to be able to stay in the South of Broad neighborhood as we were able to walk to many of our destinations from there as well as enjoy the beautiful scenery in the neighborhood! The house has beautiful updates while retaining its historic charm. All of the amenities were as promised. I hope I get to stay here again sometime!

Our family came to Charleston for our daughter's college graduation and was immersed in historical luxury through this charming Charlestonian kitchen house. Situated in the Battery neighborhood of the city's most beautiful homes, this 3-story rental provided great comfort and convenience to wonderful restaurants, as well as campus events at The College of Charleston. It is truly a spectacular rental with updated features, historical restorations, comfortable beds, and serene surroundings- a Charleston Gem!

The kitchen house was absolutely perfect for our couples getaway! We loved the location in a quiet neighborhood with some amazing historic architecture, but was also easily walkable to all the fabulous restaurants and shopping in the Broad street area. The weather wasn’t the most cooperative while we were there, but the house was a cozy getaway from the rain. Would absolutely stay again!

We were very happy with The Kitchen House. It is close to the Battery and White Point Gardens. A quiet neighborhood yet conveniently located to all the sights in downtown. Comfortable beds and very nice bathrooms. We have a large vehicle, so we were not able to park off street, but Emily provided us with the necessary parking passes and we had no problems finding parking close to the house. We would definitely book again!

This house was just what we were hoping for to enjoy our Charleston stay. The location was perfect, within east walking distance of downtown and just a block away from the lovely White Point Gardens and sea wall walkway. The house was very clean and had everything we needed, with plenty of space for three people, the beds were comfortable, and the neighborhood was quiet. Emily was very helpful and quick to respond to questions. We would love to stay here again when in town!

This rental was lovely! We loved the location, the ease of check-in and check-out, and the amenities. We had a great time. I would not stay here with a small child again but would definitely stay with another couple! Great property!

Lovely house in historic, charming neighborhood. House was absolutely perfect for two couples to enjoy Charleston Food and Wine festival weekend. House was perfect blend of a historic house modernized in the right way. We each had our own floor. Beautiful outside area. It was within walking distance of restaurants and parks. Owners were very responsive. We would love to return!

Very nicely appointed spacious kitchen house in great neighborhood South of Broad near the Battery. Beautifully done updating of this historic attached kitchen house. Be aware that the driveway is extremely narrow and parking area is tight if you are planning on parking off street. Wifi reception was very poor which was unfortunate because it was a rainy day and we wanted to watch a movie. However, Emily has a great selection of books, and this VRBO provided an excellent environment for reading.

To far from town...
Bottom level of three stayed cold all the time...
Noisy next door people...
Not enough towels/wash clothes put out...
'Had to park on street and carry luggage to back due to driveway being to small to drive our truck around...

This property is amazing! Very well appointed in every way. The location is my favorite in all of Charleston. South of Broad is the best. Very quiet at night. King Street is just around the corner. Easy walk to shopping and dining. The kitchen house was very clean. Bedding was comfortable. Nice upgrades to the bathrooms. The hosts were very kind. We will stay here again!
