The house is a charming log cabin located deep in the woods of a sparsely populated part of Mt Desert Island. It has a nice but small private pond behind the house.
The house is overall nice, but definitely has some quirks and inaccurate listing details. Contrary to the listing, it does NOT have a hot tub. The upstairs bathroom has the most unusual “bath tub” I have ever seen - it is about 30”x30” and nearly 3’ deep. It is so tall they had to build a step next to it to get in. I would NOT want to let a smaller child take a bath or shower in it unsupervised due to its depth. It has a shower head, but the standing area in the tub is maybe 18” wide so you can barely turn around in it. For this reason, no one used it and everyone took showers in the downstairs bathroom (which is a relatively normal bathroom).
There is an outdoor grill, but had no propane.
Internet is good; without it there is very limited cell coverage in this area (Verizon).
The washer/dryer is a stacked unit, located in the first floor bathroom partially in front of the vanity; this makes the bathroom rather small due to its size.
Home is nicely furnished with suitable kitchen appliances and such.
The house is not air conditioned. There are a couple fans in the rooms. It’s probably logical to be un-air conditioned for 10-11 months out of the year, but during our visit the weather was rather hot & very humid. Would benefit from AC.
Overall a good cabin but far from perfect.

This cabin was welcoming and well equipped. It is close to all the fun things to do in the area yet tucked away in a quiet area with a fun pond on the property! My kids had a great time on the kayak on the pond! Coming from Florida it was nice being able to play in a pond with no alligators! Definitely would recommend this home!

The cabin sits on a beautiful piece of property and is the perfect location to get a break from the crowds of Bar Harbor

This is a great cabin. The pictures do not do it justice. Really enjoyed our stay and Alice was a great host. The location is perfect, centrally posted to all points on MDI.

I was immediately reminded of the log homes I built as a kid with my Lincoln Logs. It couldn't have been any more comfortable and cozy. A perfect getaway! The owner was very helpful and prepared us well for our stay. We look forward to coming back soon. Cheers!

We stayed at the Harper Cabin for a long weekend. This was a great house. It was clean, with detailed instructions and recommendations about the house and surrounding area. The location is perfect. Close enough to everything you want to see on MDI but far enough away from the crowds.
The house is very private, with a nice pond and stream. The deck is very large and equipped with chairs, picnic table and a nice grill. The kitchen was very nicely stocked with cooking utensils and even had a number of spices available. It provided pretty much everything you would need to cook a good meal. I appreciated the bookshelf containing a number of books about the area and the kids were able to occupy themselves with a few of the board games available. Overall, we really enjoyed our time and found the house to be spacious, clean and equipped with just about everything you need. The host is very attentive as well, and you can tell she takes pride in the place. I would highly recommend.

Beautiful property, expansive deck and plenty of space indoors to spread out. All the beds were quite comfortable. The kitchen, while small, had everything we needed to cook. It was a good base for us to get to Acadia. Bar Harbor was 15 min away so we could easily get to town and then have the quiet oasis back at the cabin.

This pond side cabin was perfect for our needs! It was less than 5 miles to Acadia National Park and it was quiet! The cabin was well stocked with everything we may have needed. The weather wasn’t the best so we were not able to take advantage of the large deck.
I highly recommend Harper’s Cabin

The log cabin was equipped with everything you'd need and was a quiet oasis in the woods with a pond view. Only a short drive into Bar Harbor for evening activities and within 20-30 mins of every highlight of MDI you could imagine. The pack n play and booster seat worked great for our 1.5 year old. Fans were provided and used to cool off the house at night, which worked great. Would recommend staying here to anyone!

Excellent! The property was just as listed! Clean, very roomy, very well furnished and well equipped with everything you might want to cook with and more. ..only missing the beavers :( We were 5 adults: my husband and I , and adult sons and daughter-in law. Close to everything, but private place to retreat to. When I emailed the owner with a question, she called me within 5 minutes! I would recommend rental from this house and this host without any reservations. Thank you for a wonderful week. PS- if you are looking for a fantastic day out - go to Schoodic Peninsula for the day, but BRING FOOD! Stop at the Rangers table at entrance to the Schoodic campground!!

3 60-something active women sisters/cousin loved the house!
Comfy house, well designed & furnished, great location and quiet too. Everything worked! Perfect base for our week of hiking & biking, exploring Acadia, eating well and hanging out. Could not have asked for better. Alice Harper gave us clear information & guidelines, very responsive to questions before we arrived and during our stay. So happy we chose this house from the ones listed on VRBO. Thanks!

Absolutely Wonderful
We had an amazing 5 night stay at the Harper's lovely cabin. When we arrived, the cabin was immaculately clean. It is clear the Harper's very much care for their cabin, and everything was in excellent condition. My boys, 5 and 7, loved everything about the cabin, especially kayaking on the property's private pond. We felt at peace at the cabin (which can be hard with two active, boisterous boys) and we wish we could have stayed forever. The house is surrounded by lovely trees and if you walk out to the pond at night, your view of thousands of stars is unobstructed. In addition to every kitchen gadget/tool you may need, the cabin had multiple Acadia guidebooks, magazines and maps. There is so much to do in Acadia. The signed guest book includes many suggestions from past travelers, but for those with young children, the boys' favorite trails were the Cadillac Cliffs trail (Gorham Mountain) and hiking up the Bubbles. I can't recommend the Harper's cabin enough. When we make our way back to Acadia to tackle the Beehive trail, we will absolutely make sure we stay at this cabin.

Restful stay in the woods
We had a very positive experience with the property. Everything was as described and photographed. The property has a casual, cabin comfort that was perfect for our relaxing stay. It was near enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia attractions but also had a nice sense of isolation / privacy.

The place is great, so close to Acadia NP!
We spend the Thanksgiving holiday in this comfy nest, in the middle of the forest. We enjoy the quiet and peaceful neighborhood.

Lovely quiet cabin close to Acadia
We love the cabin, so much so that this was our send time here. It is SO close to Acadia - especially the visitor center and carriage trails. The cabin itself is clean, large, and has everything you’d need. We particularly like the gas fireplace for the rainy and cold days. The cabin is tucked in the woods and away from any major roads - this has been the only place I’ve ever stayed where its truly quiet at night. Highly recommend Alice’s cabin.

Wonderful Stay
We had a very nice stay at Harper's Acadia near Bar Harbor. The house was clean and welcoming, the property was private and outside of town, but fairly close to everything. We had a 10-15 min drive to downtown Bar Harbor, and about a 7-10 min drive to the Hull's Cove entrance to Acadia National Park where we spent most of our time. Close enough to come back to the cabin for lunch. We enjoyed cooking at the house rather than eating out the whole time, and the kitchen had everything we needed. Alice was great to work with, very responsive, and actually replaced the TV while we were there since it wasn't working. We also liked being able to wash our laundry before coming home.. Couldn't have asked for much more from our stay! Thank you for sharing your cabin with us Alice!

Perfect spot to stay and enjoy Acadia!
We had a fabulous time hiking in Acadia National Park and the cabin was perfect for our family of four. It was warm and cozy in December and the kitchen had everything and more to prepare meals. The location was close to many wonderful hikes Thanks for a great stay.

Alice,Thanks for sharing your home. The cabin has a cozy, at-home feel. Because of Covid, we cooked everything on the grill and in the kitchen, which had everything we needed. The wooded lot and pond is peaceful and yet within minutes of Acadia and Bar Harbor. My nephews were too young to play the yard games “for real” but they enjoyed trying and it was a nice touch. They loved finding and counting the stuffed moose! None of us have ever seen a tub like that red one, the kids thought it was awesome! For fall fun we did the Downeast Railroad pumpkin ride in Ellsworth and apple picking at Johnston’s Orchard. Hiked almost everyday and the weather was even nice enough for Hunter and Sand Beach visits. I was glad to see that shops and restaurants in Bar Harbor were still open. We look forward to visiting again in the future.

Great house tucked in the woods
We loved our stay here. The house is private, surrounded by woods, and within a short drive to Acadia National Park. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking meals. Our kids had fun exploring the yard and I enjoyed lounging on the huge balcony. This is a perfect place for getting away from it all and exploring MDI.
