Bukchondaek is a fine example of Hanoe style homes and staying here really enhanced our time and experience in Andong Hahoe village.

This is an exceptional place - a rare find. Our initial impression was a bit disappointing because it is so isolated and challenging to even find the building but after our 2-night stay it will be one of the most memorable places we have ever been. It’s incredibly authentic and our host was lovely. That said, if you’re not prepared to sleep on the floor and cross the gravel yard to use the bathroom in the night this is not the place for you! I would also be hesitant to come without a car since getting food inside the village is extremely challenging.
My only “complaint” is that the cost was rather high, obviously paying for the authenticity of the hanok.

What an incredible place! Staying at this ancient but very well maintained compound with such a long history was quite a privilege. It's like spending the night in a living museum. Our host was very gracious, and his tour of the property was excellent, as was the Korean breakfast his wife made for us. Highly recommended!

We loved everything about the place! The owner and generations before him have kept the house in perfect and traditional condition, and we were given so much information about the home - which we really appreciated and enjoyed! The breakfast was HUGE and delicious. You couldn’t ask for anything more!

The best experience I had in Korea!
Me and my family wanted to experience traditional staying in Hanok house in Korea since we are enthusiastic about Korean Traditional Culture.
The owner received us in the evening and showed us to our room. The experience of sleeping in the traditional futon sheets and experience the Ondol system( which warms up the floor) was amazing. I felt as if I traveled back in time.
In the morning we had a delicious Korean breakfast with soup, meat patties, japchae and some persimmons from the owners yard.
Afterwards, the owner showed us the house and talked about his family's heritage. The most exciting part was when he showed us amazing clothing and accessories from more than 200 years ago.
I super recommend 👌

Historic surroundings and an incredible host.

We love the heritage house. We understand the proprietor is the 9th generation owner. The hanok maintained its character and therefore was a truly authentic experience. The breakfast spread, which we had in a separate dining room, was wonderful. Traditional and delicious.
Located in the Hahoe village also meant it was easy to explore the village on foot.
The owner was also very sweet and helpful and went the extra mile for us many times. Thank you!

Mr, Ryu was a wonderful host. His English made up for our poor Korean abilities. The property is absolutely stunning, and the history behind Bukchondaek is rich and interesting. This was truly one of the most unique and meaningful places we have ever stayed. We enjoyed the experience of sleeping in the traditional Korean style, and the rooms were spotless. The meals were fabulous. Mr. Ryu's wife is an amazing cook. The most interesting part of our stay was learning about the ondol floor heating system that Mr. Ryu maintains in the traditional way. The location of Bukchondaek is perfect, too. Parking was available (entry to the village after 4:30).

Absolutely everything - authenticity, caring owner, beautiful and calm surroundings. It is a truly unique place where everything is thought about until the slightest details. By the way, we were offered korean meals’ dinners that were just delicious. I would certainly recommend staying in Bukchondaek for anyone travelling in Andong region.

The stay for me and my boyfriend was amazing. First of all staying in and discovering the Hahoe village felt like on a retreat. Secondly, we were for the first time staying in a Hanok and it was an amazing experience. Everything that can be modernized without disturbing the traditional looks of the Hanok has been like shower, toilet, AC in sleeping room. Besides the very unique Korean breakfast we even got a tour through the house which was built in 1797 and is led by the very kind and forthcoming owners in 9th generation. I can highly recommend a stay in the Bukchondaek.
Everything was more than perfect and exceeded my expectations.

That was the most exciting stay in our whole trip (which included like 11 hotels)! You can feel the history of this object. Just wonderful. The owner was kind enough to show us around the house. Great breakfast with Andong mackerel. It was really something to sit down at the old terrace at the night and imagine how it was back then in 18th century. It was worth every penny.
Additionally, we stayed in 3 hanoks and this one had the most comfortable futons by far.
We couldnt get to the city before 5:30pm with a car and if we would like to get there on foot, we would have to buy ticket :) after 5:30pm ticket box is closing and you can get there for free.

This is a world-class experience. Staying in a UNESCO World Heritage location in a true Korean Hasock home. The host is fantastic and the village of Hahoe is more than worth a stay.
If you want a true traditional exposure to Korea, this is it. The breakfast is remarkable and the whole place makes you feel welcome and truly fortunate to be in a unique setting.
If you cant sleep on a floor mat, bring some extra padding.
Nothing. Its all about the experience. It isnt a luxurious resort, but the place is pure luxury. A unique opportunity, but not for someone who likes all the fancy amenities.

Owned by the great grandson of the builder. He speaks great English and has many cultural treasures to share. Worth it!
