Great location, very well decorated in the bar and restaurant. Food was superb, both breakfast and dinner of the highest quality, can’t fault a thing. Staff were all very good and friendly to.
Ceiling height in the bathroom, anyone over 6ft would be unable to take a shower standing up.

Welcome was warm, friendly and very welcome. Beautiful old building, newly decorated very tastefully. Fabulous food. A truly lovely place to stay

The rooms and hotel are good, for the cost.
The hotel bar is nice
The stay was fine. However, the check in process was disappointing. We were arriving very late (traffic, travelling >200miles). We called to say we would be arriving between 11 and 12pm. Receptionist said that it closed at 11pm, she could stay until 11:30 (although she doesn't get paid extra) but any later, we would have to sleep in the car. No alternative
We drive for +5 hours, with no break to make the deadline, stressed that we would be stranded. We arrived at 11.15. The hotel bar was in full swing (there is an archway connecting the bar to the reception), two people at reception to check us in! We checked in, then went for to the bar for a drink, stayed till nearly midnight while the reception remained open
I still do not understand why they had to make a big deal of our arrival, threatening that we would not be welcome past 11pm! Even of they had closed reception (which they didn't), they could have left the key at the bar!!!
This small incident just set the tone, very bad first impression.

Picturesque village and quaint historic preservation of the building. Breakfast is very good value (large portions!)

good food, thank you!

Lovely staff, very comfortable bec
The food - menu sounded great, reality was very disappointing. Steak pie - one of the most expensive items on the menu - tasted and looked like a reheated supermarket pie, 85% pastry. Breakfast was miserly - one poached egg, one rasher of bacon. Really disappointing.

I loved this place, perfect in every way, food, staff, room; can’t fault it. I will plan a weekend there in the near future

The breakfast was delicious. We inconvenienced staff by arriving late and they were very understanding and said they would wait for us. The room was beautiful and it was a real treat to stay there.

Lovely small hotel right in the town center, public car park right behind the hotel. Lovely bar with great beer, ales and cider.
Very nice breakfast with great service.
We arrived on a Sunday night at around 19.45 and could not get any dinner anmore as the kitchen was already closed, would have been nice after a 5 hour arrival trip to get at least offered some sandwiches or snacks as we even told in advance the arrival time.
But we got a great recommendation for a small Italian restaurant in town where we got amazing pizza :)

Food was great
My room was above the darts board on a competition night. I enquired when this would finish and they said 10/10:30pm At 11pm I called reception who told me it had finished but I said I could still hear thud thud thud. It then stopped.

We had to cancel after the FREE CANCELLATION had expired due to our son being ill. The White Hart cancelled the booking for free. We managed to get cover, so re-booked for one night as much to say 'thank you' for the kindness shown by staff and management.
Friendly staff, especially Jackie on reception and George in the bar.
Can't think of anything.

It is a great place to stay to break the long drive to Cornwall. I always meet friends who live local and this time, we had our meal at the hotel, which was very nice. Also in these cold conditions, nice to have a warm and cosy room.
Just wish the car park was a target nearer!!!

Excellent hotel. To say they are dog freindly is an understatement. I took both my dogs, and they were so welcoming. They provided dog beds and there is no charge for dogs. All the staff are lovely and helpful. Very clean rooms. No evidence of dog smells or hairs . Will definitely be staying here again. 😃❤️

Lovely area in remote Devon.
Lots of character and lovely bar area downstairs.
In need of a revamp in the room.
Breakfast was awful. Took over an hour before or order was taken. We nearly left as we had a tight schedule. When it arrived the pancakes were inedible.

The staff were amazing. Each and every one of the staff were friendly and curteous.
There was nothing that we didn't like.
