Definitely not family friendly
I picked this hotel for myself and children, two of whom have severe complex care needs as it was listed as a family hotel and the reviews seemed decent. At check in, front desk staff mentioned breakfast and I told her my twins have severe food allergies and listed them out. She assured me that seafood was never served at breakfast and proceeded to book the twins at child rate but my 12 years old at adult rate. The breakfast was fine, however there was mackerel served at the buffet. If I had known this then we would have made alternative plans for breakfast. The waitress was really amazing. She recognised how unsettled one of my children had become as it was unfamiliar surroundings for him, so she sat us in restaurant on the other side of the bar and was kind enough to bring everything we needed paying attention to risk of cross contamination from allergens. Housekeeping was way below par. Our room was never cleaned. First day we got back from Drayton Manor by 3.30pm and saw the room was just as we left it at 10AM. I called the front desk and with an apology was told our room probably wasn’t on the list. 15mins later he called back to say Housekeeping had been informed so the room would be cleaned. Almost an hour and still no housekeeping service but the front desk stopped taking the call from the room phone. I first double checked on the hotel’s website to confirm that Housekeeping was to be provided on a daily basis then used my mobile phone to call the front desk this time. After some back and forth they finally sent Housekeeping at almost 5pm to just straighten the beds, take out rubbish and change towels. The next day we went out and again our room was not cleaned. I had to go look for housekeeping staff myself and pleaded with them to at least take out the rubbish and supply fresh towels. She said she had to clean her departures first before she could come to our room. I even made up the beds myself.

Comfy hotel, family friendly, friendly staff
Close to the places we wanted to visit
Stayed at the hotel 2 years ago and had a swimming pool, was disappointed to know they didn’t have one now. Should have researched beforehand.

Nice hotel very well situated with a great quality vs value !
This hotel has a lot of character and fits Marriott's standards well. The rooms are well-maintained, and the hotel is extremely clean. The hotel location was ideal, with tram, metro, and bus stations in the direct surroundings. I also appreciated the flexibility demonstrated by the hotel staff. We had to shorten our stay and leave one day earlier for London. They accommodated my demand with no additional charges—a pleasant experience.
Breakfast could be improved with more choices and better quality food. We shouldn't ask for things to be refilled when empty; staff should be proactive and do it before it gets noticed.

Our go-to in Birmingham
We regularly stay at the Marriott in Edgbaston, maybe 12 nights so far this year, we like the rooms, location and staff service - especially the front desk, Wictoria & the team. Its super clean and generally very well maintained (efficient and friendly housekeeping team!) The parking is easy and its well located for the rest of the City. Unlike most hotels in Birmingham the Marriott has really good sized rooms and is relatively quiet, its become our go-to as it delivers on nearly everything we look for.
Minor thing but mgmt cost-cutting doesn't compliment the brand, like just one bottle / can of water for two guests even in superior rooms (none in others) ...and even this is not always available. Illy coffee machines ...but no coffee pods any longer...its nice to be welcomed by a lit room with TV & HVAC running but would rather save on the utilities and spend on the little details that improve the stay experience.

Good location. Awful beds and pillows
Location, service in the bar and on reception was good
The beds were so uncomfortable. The pillows were awful. Very bad night sleep for all of us. Duvet made a noise every time you moved. The only way the double bed would be comfortable is if you are in it alone. Breakfast service average

Nice hotel, abit outdated staff can really make or break a stay
The property entrance was very inviting there was enough car parking space, even though we arrived two hours after check-in time. The receptionist greeted us well and was very kind
The Rude night receptionist who made me feel uncomfortable to come downstairs the next day. I unfortunately have to disclose the horror of me being questioned when entering the property early hours (visited Broad street for the first time) of the morning with a non-staying guest which we sat in the foyer. The manager on site was extremely aggressive and was shouting at me asking me what am I doing here and I showed my room key & stated I do you have a room here and carried on about my business. I sat in the foyer area bit, continuing small talk, the manager of the night was making me very uncomfortable because he kept on bellowing across the foyer. At this point, I can see he's extremely annoyed about something else, but unfortunately I couldn't put my finger on it What my room number was at this time, I had a bit to drink and I was really tired and just wanted to have a talk with my friend and then eventually, Go to my room and relax and sleep after l'd blurted out my room number which I didn't really want to do, but the guy did not stop shouting and are trying to approach me. He then was screaming at me asking me what my name was at this point, l've never experienced such weirdo minuscule harassment in my life. I am of a mature age and don't expect to be treated with such disrespect, this was beyond ridiculous at this point and I made a complaint which I got told 'it would be taken care of, not a word from anyone to apologise

Second time at this hotel and nowhere near as good as the first time. Little problems add up!
Location of hotel is great for arena venue. Room was big enough for four people.
Room had no heating (staff knew about this and had put oil heater in room). Plug sockets not working so kettle/phone chargers and heater worked intermittently. Staff addressed the heater and cold issue with further oil heater which wasn't very effective. Hotel was quiet so don't understand why they didn't just move rooms! Breakfast - very limited food on arrival, some more did arrive but not great. Coffee machines not working/switched on so had to keep asking for individual cup refills. Fresh fruit was not fresh, was "fizzing" and not good! Quite disappointing! Hotel has since listened to the issues and given 50% refund which helps but still not great at the time!
