We’re traveling around the UK and Europe and find this type of accommodation just perfect, in comparison with others in the same price bracket the George rates amongst the highest
Staff are friendly and helpful food is well presented and the Hotel had all the charm you’d expect from an historical hotel

Clean, comfortable
Strange mix up of orders for breakfast

Nice and spacious room, very well decorated and clean.
Breakfast could be improved, and so could the organisation of the staff.

All the Staff at friendly, professional and polite. Great location for all my needs. I recommend to all who are thinking of booking.

The whole experience was great. The George is easily accessible from the A303 and has a great location in the town. The communication prior to the booking and afterwards as I left my ebook there was excellent.
For me and my wife there is nothing to dislike about the George. It is perfect for our needs and we have had a warm welcome on the 3 or 4 occasions we have visited

Fantastic period rooms. Great evening meal.

Exceeded our expectations!
Couldn’t figure out the towel warmer. I would have liked a warmer temp in my room but an additional blanket was supplied so I was fine.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel. Incredibly clean and comfortable. The beds were large and very comfy. The rooms had plenty of space. The bathroom was beyond clean and offered amazing water pressure plus a tray table for the bath so you could sit back and relax. You were provided with full bottles of shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner, so you knew you wouldn't run out.
The decor was beautiful and well thoughts out. You didn't feel like you were staying in a cardboard cut-out hotel room. It felt lux but at an incredible price!
The bar area was so cosy and offered a number of places to sit back and relax.
The restaurant, although a bit on the more expensive side, yet still affordable, was delicious!
Breakfast was included. You had your assortment of continental and then also could choose from a varied menu. We had eggs benedict (do not recommend, over do e sauce and eggs) and eggs royale (the salmon) which were quite good. While breakfast left a little to be desired, the staff more than made up for it. They even brought out our little one a plate of scrambled eggs that was not on the menu.
They were incredibly kind throughout the stay and really made the whole trip that much sweeter. They deserve nothing but the highest of praise.
This hotel is such a gem. We will definitely be making it a regular stop on our yearly holiday and are even considering exploring the area for a long weekend so we can stay again.
Nothing. It was fantastic.

The hotel has just opened after refurbishment and looked very smart. The bedroom was spacious and the bed very comfortable, with some nice toiletries in the bathroom (along with the toy duck that my wife liked).
The cooked breakfast is very good with a good choice. However the choice of buffet items (particularly fresh fruit and yoghurt) was limited by the time we got there (about an hour after service had begun) and there didn’t appear to be any attempt at refilling.

Very nice, cosy hotel and comfortable and well equipped room, great restaurant and friendly staff. Big and convenient parking lot.
4.5
Beautifully renovated with comfortable room, bed, etc.
Wine list has to be the best I've seen in a pub/hotel like this - an extensive, well thought out selection by the glass and bottle, and well kept beer.
Being an old building. the floors are creaky and we heard and felt every person who walked past the room. Ask for a room away from the stairs and/or maybe the 2nd floor.
The food was made out to be an amazing fine dining experience but, in reality, it is just about gastro-pub quality.

Beautiful soft furnishings in room and across hotel. Hotel itself is a lovely coaching Inn which has been refurbished to a high quality with a range of cosy and stylish areas.. On High Street within very short walk of lots of places to eat.
Room was too small with awkward clothes storage. No WiFi in our room for duration of our overnight stay and although lots of apologies nobody actually did anything about it and just expressed their surprise.
4.5
Room lovely and also the food. The staff were helpful and friendly.
Room a little warm, but there was a fan provided.
4.5
the renovation was done to a very high standard.
the Staff were Friendly,Helpful,Attentive and always ready to chat and enjoy a conversation.
Keith and Joanna in the restaurant were exceptional.

charming old hotel
no soap or toiletries in the room. Only one pillow each

Quaint building & bar but run down
Did not feel looked after by staff, missed out on breakfast on second morning as hotel closing, were not informed and found out only by chance Saturday night in bar. Staff very dismissive on our day of departure, felt ignored, keys just left on reception desk as no direction given. Staff too busy packing up to engage and say goodbye. Not a nice experience as customers
4.5
Breakfast good
Rm 19 - poor decor, toilet didn’t flush, water damage to ceiling, no side lights only full light, 1 pillow each, net curtains dirty & barely hanging!!
Very basic, hostel like accommodation.

The staff
The hotel is in desperate need of renovating, which I have been told is happening soon

Bathtub side torn off. No soap available (they don’t do soap). No information on how to get to their main tourist attraction (Stonehenge) available. TV not working. Rug ratty.
YOU SHOULD TAKE IT FROM YOUR LIST
Everything

Tend to the shabby. In need of a repaint / new carper etc ie refurbishment. Apparently some renovations and alterations to the building about to start.
