Staff were very helpful and friendly

We loved the property and the fact it is a castle! The lobby is large and welcoming. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The room was huge and clean. The bar and restaurant were nice as were the drinks and food. The bed was comfortable and the room was a good temperature with air con. The outside space was amazing. Peacocks and rabbits roaming free in the beautiful gardens. We had a small dog with us and she was as welcomed as we were.
The room was a little dated and could do with some touching up. Bathroom - toilet flush button was broken, crack in the sink. Lighting in bedroom isn’t great and the mirror isn’t ideal for getting ready in. The windows were single glazed which didn’t matter but, they were difficult to open should you want some air. There was a blind missing on one of the windows and the curtains were a little broken so, light did come through in the morning.

The customer experance is fantasic here nothing to much bother from all of the staff including those in the spa. We really enjoyed our stay with both dinner and breakfast were superb. Also the peacocks were amazing to watch!!!!

Wonderful location and grounds.
The decor was in quite poor condition. Shower didnt work properly, windows were rotting and not able to open. The whole building, interior and exterior, felt tired and in need of some repair. Breakfast was also quite poor given the cost.

It is an old castle. I liked that there wasn’t any modern features it felt old
Not much to be fair. There are a few bits of flaky paint & the bathrooms needed a little attention. Maybe lower the price a tad for that.

The grounds are vast, and lovely to walk around in.
It was fascinating to be able to stay in a place with such history.
We went to spend time for a special birthday. We were given an upgrade to a suite which was a pleasant surprise.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Food was delicious and a good variety.
We didn't use the spa area.
There's nothing we didn't like, but as the building is old , it is obvious in various areas that it needs upkeeing, maintenance and decorating.

Room was very big.
Grounds are beautiful.
Bedding was clean and bed massive and comfy.
I think we got upgraded to the most bizarre room, the bathroom was open in the bedroom, no door. Just a mirrored bath/shower on full show. Zero privacy.
Made my anxiety +++
Also really unclean, dusty and paint peeling, carpet off the bathroom was saturated and smelly.
4.5
The room and afternoon tea was excellent
Breakfast was self service for a 4 star I would have expected waitress service

Great character property and very friendly and helpful staff.
Bed wasn’t very comfortable, it was like being perched on top of a dome.
Corridors were very dark but I guess it adds to the atmosphere.

I booked this room for my son and daughter in law and the receptionist was very friendly. There are lovely grounds to stroll round. The room had a luxurious bathroom, which was a treat, and the breakfast was plentiful and tasty.
Long walk to dining room, reception etc from the room and some areas need tlc.

Difficult to say? Nothing was as we expected it to be for the price we paid and for the rating of the hotel. Moreover, Ruthin is my home town and I was very familiar with the Castle itself but I had never been there as a paying guest. I booked in January through Booking.com and my "alarm bells started ringing", I paid nearly £400.00 for a two-night stay but there were no cancellation terms only "Pay in full on day of booking". Nevertheless, I went ahead as we were looking forward to meeting up with friends and relatives.
On arrival the reception team were fine. We were given our key and directions to our allocated room. No sooner had we viewed the room we were on our way back to Reception (Bearing in mind that I have been using Booking.Com for over 20 years for both domestic and business stays) to request a room change. The room was no where near a £180.00 per night, it was very basic (almost monastic) certainly not what we associate with in a Four* hotel. The reception team were apologetic and quickly gave us the choice of two other rooms, [I guess they had dealt with this problem before]? The rest of the stay was more of the same. Afternoon tea with a glass of Fizzy took some time as the serving team could not locate the Prosseco, when the afternoon tea arrived it did so without plates and crockery. Breakfasts were anything but Four*, with uncleared tables, luke warm food and drinks. On the Sunday morning the waiting staff apologised for delays due to the "Chef not turning up for work". The staff were young, helpful when asked but lacked the experience to anticipate problems and come up with solutions. I stop short of blaming the staff but they lacked management - no one seemed to be in charge? We saw the manager on thre occaisions requesting if a member of staff could put some bottles of mineral water in our room - it never happend. The interior is in sore need of renovation.

Lovely location. Characterful.
Tatty, dreary and in much need of maintenance. The corridors had peeling paint, the windows were old and peeling. The room was drab and plain with no cushions, throws or pictures.

Our room was fabulous and the bed very comfortable. The bar area and the ouside seating areas were excellent. Breakfast was good and we had a lovely evening meal. The hotel and it's grounds were superb and the location, so close to the town, was perfect.
Our complimetary tea supplies weren't topped up on the second day, but this was easily resolved.

Did not have breakfast, found it too expensive. Location was good for local pubs and places to eat.
All was good apart from our room door was left open by the maid but nothing was stolen, reported it to reception but received no feedback.
