just needed a little updating and a bit more care to attention, the pillows on the bed were definatly in need of renewing , they were very flat, the food was not as good as I was expecting compared with price, but it was ok, staff and surroundings were very lovely
pillows on the bed

wonderful ambience very relaxing. the staff were amazing and were very attentive. they took care of my elderly companions needs without my having to ask

location was great, just off A14, you could just hear the traffic, but the setting was very peaceful. lovely period property, heavily beamed , and open fire in inglenook at breakfast.
bedding very clean and comfortable.
The lady serving the breakfast was delightful, and the Kipper was delicious.
Plenty of parking , with chickens, geese and a Shetland pony.
very indifferent man to ‘welcome’ us, no welcoming conversation at all , no showing were breakfast/ dinner would be, when bar was open etc. Similar at checking out by 10am , not a sole to be seen , left keys on counter, with other guests , and walked out.
we stayed in the Mews 3 and 4, cosy but tired looking, needs a fresh pair of eyes to point out scruffy frontage ( weeds/ worn dirty door mats, dead plants on bistro table)
In side, torn door net, curtain lining coming adrift , stained carpet , marked walls and paint work. If you stay in mess 3/4/5 expect to hear tenants upstairs conversation and movements.
My companion and I paid £298 each for two nights single occupancy with breakfast . I would suggest that if the owners used two nights income of all rooms to do some cosmetic updates of mews and reception area, this could be an outstanding accommodation venue.

Lots of character. Very peaceful location. Very clean accommodation with a great shower. Good welcoming staff. A good breakfast with good ingredients.
The menu was a bit limited for evening meals and pricey. The sirloin was £29 and it wasn't as good as I was expecting, to be honest. The breakfast was also expensive at around £17 for a full English. Although the location is nice and peaceful it was isolated and a walk of 1.6 miles to the nearest pub.

It’s location
Room to small, bed to small, pillows hard
Room not serviced..
Breakfast were told we could only have one egg as they needed to keep them for the Yorkshire puddings for lunch.

Everything. Always awesome.
Nothing. It's always a pleasure but could do with a nesspresso machine in the rooms.
3.7
Olde worlds charm set among woods. Plenty of parking. Good food at dinner and friendly service.
The room had a couple of spider webs in corners and the walls in the bathroom could have done with a clean
3.7
Breakfast and staff were pleasant
The room was damp and the cleanliness was very below par. the bathroom in particular was full of mold everywhere. the shower curtain was black with it. its the first time I've hesitated to take a shower whilst staying in a hotel.
3.7
Everything except for 1 comment below - staff were great too.
Few cobwebs and the shower curtain was dirty/stained which needed changing
3.7
Staff were polite and friendly. Location perfect.
The room was cold, damp and musty. It clearly had not been cleaned for some time as there were large cob webs through out. We had to open the door and windows to air the room. I showed two members of staff the state of the room. Both were clearly embarrassed by the state of it. One took pictures and apparently ‘posted’ to the staff What’s app group. I was advised the managers/ owners would be informed and would be in contact. I have had no contact. I sent an email after a week of our visit. No one has had the courtesy to respond. Awful room and post staff customer service dreadful.
3.7
food was good - staff were nice
bath rusty - cracked tiles - black mould on bath mat - black mould on bottom of doors - small room - no decent chair to sit on - television didnt work properly - wi fi awful - and the main thing was it was stated on my receipt that all units were on the ground floor and wheel chair accessible which is totally untrue as there are two staircases so had to have my room swapped they blamed booking .com for the wrong information.
3.7
location was perfect for our plans. staff were hugely helpful and friendly and breakfast was great
bed wasn’t comfy, room was a bit tired and generally the hotel needs upgrading and decorating - water damage on some ceilings and chips in the bath and sink. only one bath towel in the room and that was a bit frayed.
3.7
Beautiful house and location. Nice food and friendly staff.

Warm friendly welcome lovely warm areas on such cold day all staff members very helpful and friendly. Excellent evening meal tasty well presented food.nice room lovely and warm on cold day everything was excellent
3.7
Breakfast was substantial, extra toast offered. Birds and squirrels to watch outside. Beautiful grounds to walk in, ducks, geese and hens near the carpark. Comfortable Mews cottage accomodation.
No menu change each day. We ate in on our first night, but chose to eat elsewhere when told the menu would be the same.
3.7
Excellent location in country. Dog very welcome. We stayed in the Mews which gave us direct access to the grounds. Breakfast and dinner very good also the table service.
Told two days before arrival that the restaurant would be closed and they could not honour our table booking.
Messaged an hour before arrival (5pm) to say that the bar would also be closing as would be hotel. Our room key would be left in a secure box.
We stayed two days, room service would have been nice.

I begin by saying that hotels are not my ‘thing’ and I rarely stay in them preferring instead my motorcaravan for home comforts. I’m a great believer in honesty and I speak as I find. With that in mind I offer the following.
Friendliness of the staff on arrival was very good. So often reception staff in hotels seem occupied with other things, brusque, ‘put out’, and unsmiling. Here I was treated very well and all my queries were answered. That was a huge plus for me.
Breakfast was excellent with a good choice on the menu and, most importantly, freshly cooked rather than coming from a hot plate. Also I had a very pleasant waitress who served me very well at table. This was much appreciated. Also where I was placed was just perfect: by a window, somewhere quiet, and with a well organised placing of chickens to keep my attention! I’m not sure about the commercial radio station playing - it wasn’t too bad, it could have been worse. I would personally have preferred listening to Patrick Trelawney on BBC Radio 3. (I didn’t eat in the restaurant (or anywhere else - not hungry) for dinner but judging by the breakfast I would want to try it on my return.)
Lovely grounds to walk around.
The geese. Excellent security lookouts.
Good sized level car park.
I liked the room although it was a bit small and had there been two of us staying there would have been only one chair to sit on.
I liked the selection of tea and coffee in the room, thank you for the decaf coffee.
Comfortable bed with a firm mattress and cotton sheets. I could sleep in this bed at the time.
I liked the shower.
I liked meeting the owner ( I think) on departure and I was able to share a few thoughts with her.
I liked the drive up to the hotel and it’s very convenient location to the A14 and to the church for the funeral I was attending during my stay.
I liked the Pavilion which I attended as a guest of the hirer for the wake for Christopher Gane, the food was very nicely prepared and delicious.
I raised these issues with reception on departure and in passing with (I think) the owner who I bumped into as I left.
Some lights (crucially over the sink making shaving tricky) were not working in the bathroom.
Toilet would not flush (which I overcame by filling the cistern with more water by holding down the float)
The bathroom radiator/towel rail was off and could not be turned on by me - but it was warm enough whilst I was there.
Pixilation on the television making it trying to watch.
In addition:
There is background noise from the nearby A14 major trunk road, the penalty for convenience. This was particularly noticeable in the garden, not so in the room with the single glazed window closed.
Not a particularly pleasant view across flat roofs and extraction vent to rear of property.
A relatively small room, the bed taking up most of it. Only one armchair, ok for me travelling alone, but this is a double.
Other gusts who seem unable to close bedroom doors quietly.
Shower head really needs a thorough clean.

it’s old style look. The staff were lovely and they had animals in the garden, which I thought was as amazing as I’m a massive animal lover
Rooms not overly clean
3.7
close to the venue we needed to get to
very tired

Breakfast choice was excellent however I had to send my poached eggs back as they were solid. The toast was cold but this was rectified and the replacements were fine.
We stayed in a mews room and it smelt awful. There was no window to open to let in air. The walls were dirty, the carpet filthy, there were knocks out the plaster on the walls, chips out the bath enamel, mould in the grout in the bathroom, mould on the blinds and the light socket had loose screws.
3.7
Lovely location. Friendly staff
Room was small, in annexe, not made clear when booking. Musty room. No hot water in the morning. TV remote broken.
3.7
Afternoon tea/wake catered for very well
Grounds, and character of hotel
Room, nice aspect, especially with the french doors and terrace
Friendly staff
Animals in grounds
Menu was limited for evening meal
Room smelt a little musty
Prepayment for room was not recognised when arriving so hadbto pay again and then be refunded.
3.7
Food was great, room was lovely, grounds were beautiful but it was Sammy and the resident ghost that made the night.
Couldn't find the dbb deals on the website that we were informed about.
3.7
The room was beautiful with a four poster bed and the hotel had a fantastic history and story to tell. Loved the grounds with the animals, manicured lawns and woodland areas.
The carpets need updating in the bedroom as there were stains on them. Also the armchair desperately needs recovering or replacing. The dinner was expensive with a very limited vegan and vegetarian range.
3.7
Nice rooms clean and well equipped
Breakfast included but not available until after 8am and staff weren't willing to do anything for me or my colleague as we needed to leave before 8am for work
3.7
Lovely hotel with a super room, great food and pleasant grounds. Enjoyed looking at at the animals.
The staff didn't seem make much effort, and one had to pay for dinner at the end of the meal as it wasn't permitted to add it to the room bill.
