We were so surprised that the standard was so high. Room was gorgeous and we only booked the basic. Staff so helpful and posted my phone charger back to me. Wouldn’t even let me pay. Food delicious.

The White Hart is a lovely pub full of character in the small village of South Harting.
I was walking the South Downs Way, South Harting is approximately ½ mile off the route. Before crossing the busy B2146 to continue the walk, take the public footpath on your left which runs parallel to the road, the pathway starts by going downhill then levels out to the South Gardens and a playground, you then walk on the B2146 below the church for approximately 150 yards before reaching the White Hart on your left, the Harting stores and post office are a little further on.
Most of the rooms are located in a separate building across the courtyard to the right behind the pub. I stayed in Room 4 which was quite small but suitable for me. The bed was comfortable, tea, coffee, biscuits and water are provided and I loved the Bramley toiletries, the shower was large with good pressure.
Dinner was very good and the staff were excellent. The pub also caters very well for dogs with treats such as Bark Burgers and Bark Bangers!
Paintwork was tired in a few areas, there were some scuffs on the tiles lower down in the shower and a couple of marks on the furniture which just need attention.
The service for breakfast was slow, I was advised there was new chef, at the time of ordering there were only 3 people in the restaurant so it wasn’t busy!

Overall, pleasantly surprised by the peaceful location, warm welcome, good food, room amenities. This is a cosy, dog-friendly place.
For the price paid, we expected better level of cleanliness in the room. This is the only thing that stops us from rating higher as everything else was great!

Really helpful staff, lovely room and very comfortable bed. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. Lovely view from our window. Nice big bath towels! All very well equipped. Great to have the Dyson tower fan as it was a very hot day/night. Breakfast was lovely - had a full English and it was all nicely set out.
Heated towel rail in bathroom was permanently on and could not see a way to switch it off. Made the bathroom very hot and a waste of heat! No mushrooms with the breakfast - that would have made it perfect.

Beautifully decorated hotel. Family room was amazing both cosy and modern. Bathrooms were luxurious. Lovely selection of teas in the rooms with large tea cup ! We loved that the beer garden was in full sun, close to the family room and with views of field. The village is beautiful and peaceful which is what we were looking for. Staff was super friendly. Breakfast was great ! We have a wonderful time!

Beautiful location off the South Downs. Staff and locals were very friendly and helpful. Food offerings were very good and freshly cooked … superb. Room was boutique style, spacious and very comfortable.

Beautiful pub in a gorgeous location.
Travelling with a dog, communication with the hotel was great and the room was perfect with direct outside access and they provided a dog bed, bowls and some biscuits.
It was a flying visit, so I didn’t get to try the food but the menu looked lovely.
The room combined the best of quintessential pub style, with stylish touches. The Dyson fan was very welcome!
Amazing value, would thoroughly recommend.

Location very convenient for a wedding party held in the village. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Coffee and tea in room - good selection.
I was staying in room 4 in the barn. First impressions not great, I thought I was being led to the pub's garage out back but it was actually the entrance to the rooms. Room 4 is small, en-suite shower room even smaller - barely enough room for 2 people to pass if one wants to use the shower and another the sink. There is one skylight with electric blind; one tiny window opening onto rear garden and parking space. Air temperature outside was 27C during the day, felt even warmer inside. Because the room and window are ground floor you can't leave the window open for ventilation during the day and it was stiflingly hot inside when we returned in the evening. There is a Dyson fan, so we had to run that all night just to get some sleep and keep sufficiently cool. Paintwork was looking a bit tired and dirty in the room; black mould around bottom of shower tray. Room is advertised with a seating area - a chair crammed next to the bed / wardrobe is stretching the imagination a bit...
Summary - for £259 per night excluding breakfast I expect excellent things. I stayed at a stunning boutique hotel in central London (Farringdon) a month or so ago for a similar (rack) rate and that felt like good value but it was a massive jump in luxury and space beyond the White Hart with a central London location.
We had a couple of friends staying in the rooms directly attached to the pub and these were significantly better and larger, but the White Hart's barn room we had significantly missed the mark at the price advertised.

We booked three rooms for a weekend wedding party in mid May. Our stay at the White Hart was very enjoyable as the staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooms are both comfortable and have everything you need for a special weekend break in a rural location. The meals we had on Friday evening and lunch on Sunday were also good.
4.3
The room was clean, the shower and the bed was nice. Having a TV in the room was entertaining for a rainy day.
Our main concern was the food served at the pub. We had a diner reservation but when we arrived, half of the menu was already out of stock so we had to settle for fish nuggets (scampi) and a burger. The breakfast food as well was less than expected. It was pricey for the quality served.

Easter Weekend break, excellent place to stay. Staff very helpful when we found out that Kitchen had closed and provided food at 8.30pm. Great atmosphere and hightly recommended as a place to stay.
4.3
Attentive staff, which made the stay easy after a long day.
Pleasant room
Some noise from the bar in the room. But it's an old pub, so it's acceptable.

beautiful old building. nicely decorated room
room was right next to the kitchen flue

Staff were great, and happy to go the extra mile (including sympathetically planning a takeaway breakfast for my early start). Food was good and enough to sustain two meals off the same menu.
One meal was unacceptable, but there was no real problem getting it changed. The room was way too warm -- for me, anyway.
4.3
easy to find and comfortable rooms with a good bed. The staff on duty were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast in particular was excellent.
The bedroom was a tad on the fresh side, but there was a spare heater provided which was a useful backup.

I needed to stay one night. What a beautiful pub. I had a wonderful room above the pub which was beautiful. Clean, comfy, cosy and full of character. Lovely strong shower. I treated myself to the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Lovely atmosphere and I will be back.

The staff were very warm and welcoming.
Food was delicious.
The room had everything and the bed was super comfortable.
Best place I have ever stayed for quality of money, will definatly be back!
4.3
The food and service were excellent, but the overall ambience of this 16th century pub, with many original features retained, was just amazing - including our large attic bedroom, with the comfy bed cleverly positioned between the solid roughly hewn oak roof beams !!
More space between the tables in the bar area, so that over-enthusiastic fellow diners do not dominate the conversations on adjacent tables !!

A lovely old Inn full of charm and character, obviously popular with the locals and visitors alike. A lively atmosphere with an excellent restaurant. Close to Portsmouth so an excellent stopover point and one we will undoubtedly try to book again.
There was nothing to dislike we had a wonderful stay.

A wonderful place to stay, eat and drink. The room was spotless with lots of lovely added extras, such as a Nespresso machine and high end toiletries.
The staff at the hotel are super friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the evening, which we enjoyed so much, we booked Sunday lunch for the following day.
