A comfortable and characterful lodge overlooking the river

Really friendly and professional team. Lovely comfortable room with character and nice to have access to sun loungers and a small pool when hot. Lovely view over the river and convenient location between Maun and Moremi when travelling around Botswana.

Accommodation price a little high compatible to other lodges we stayed at with equal or higher level facilities. Room would benefit from a small fridge for water etc and a hairdryer in room. We don’t watch tv on holiday but for some, a tv may be important and there was no tv in the room. Sun loungers cushions would benefit from regular inspection and cleaning to be most inviting to lay on. Breakfast great but would have liked the option for evening meal menu other than the buffet. Food nice but we are not fans of buffet food.

La situation

Le rapport qualité prix est très mauvais. Le prix on s’y attend, s’il est élevé on assume car on en a fait le choix en sélectionnant cet établissement. Mais les prestations,services et restauration sont tous très en deçà de ce niveau de prix. Pas possible de conseiller cet établissement. Nous avions réservés chambre avec vue et nous nous retrouvons sans vue. Piscine pas propre. Très très décevant. Menu à la carte pas dignes de ce type d’établissement. Game drive full day et 2 bouteilles d’eau de 50 cl par personne or il fait 40 degrés ! C’est pas sérieux, du jamais vu, c’est pingre ! D’autant que l’on a payé le petit déjeuner dans notre réservation et que celui ci est re-facturé dans ce game drive. Beaucoup de surprises, d’incompréhensions d’absences de réponses et de déceptions.

Lage am Fluss sehr schön und ruhig sehr schöner Restaurantbereich Zimmer groß und gepflegt, Bad/WC/Dusche modern und gepflegt gutes WLAN im Zimmer

Frühstück in der Preiskategorie nicht besonders, etwas lustlos Dinner nur Buffet mit Festpreis, keine Möglichkeit für die Kinder kleine Mahlzeit zu wählen Bedienung beim Dinner (Getränke) etwas überfordert (2 Kellner für ca. 30 Personen) bis 23 Uhr Party auf dem Nachbargrundstück Preis-Leistungsverhältnis (Frühstück) etwas überzogen

Thamalakane respite

Wide views across river were lovely. On our first day a hippo kindly moved in and entertained us. Staff were without exception warm & helpful. Chalets were beautiful, well appointed and restaurant overlooking the river was charming I would recommend this place unreservedly

If your looking for a place to stay in Maun this is where you should stay. Can't recommend enough.

This was the 5th hotel we stayed in due our 3 week holiday and by far the best. The setting of the hotel is awesome and very well maintanined. The food and service was second to none, the staff were all very good. Every night there was different people arriving at the hotel which kept the evenings fresh with others holiday stories. Thanks to everyone that works in the Thamalakane River Lodge.

We loved the lodge

The lodge is located in a very nice place, despite of the fact, that the Thamalakane River was arid. The staff was fantastic, both the reception and the support team. Very good "safaris" were organized by the lodge, one to Mokoro (Okavango), one to Moremi Game Reserve, with local guides. Food is excellent. Breakfast is rich, dinner is depending of the number of guests, menu or buffet, but the foods are excellent in both cases. The room is very cosy during the day, but...

...if the evening is coming, it's colder and colder. Maun is a very cold place at this season, but this is not the fault of the lodge. The only thing which was somehow out of our comfort zone, that toilet was in the same space then the bedroom, even separated by a simple wall, but smells and noises came out directly. More intimity should be wise.

Breakfast was minimal Diner a poor buffet

Upon arrival i wanted to use the toilet at the reception and found it to be in a filthy state As the delta was bonedry there is no good reason to visit the place and therefore it was an expensive bad experience Futhrrmore you have to pay for the whole period and if you want to leaf earlier there is no refund

Bad service and bad food

The location is really good.

The dinner is served as a buffet. 1 hour into the buffet we arrived and were told there is no more food. The staff made a plan to make an Oxtail but the quality was awful. The service from restaurant staff is very relaxed and not attentive. Since my previous stay a year before it is clear the lodge has taken a bit of a dive. I was not impressed at all.

Even though we were there for a short time we felt very welcomed the food was excellent

The staff are very attentive and helpful. The setting of the resort is stunning with the river and beautiful sunsets. The little huts are very comfortable and spacious.

A very enjoyable stay 😀

Large, comfortable bungalow. Outdoor seating with a view on the river. Good meals. Excursion to Moremi Game Reserve.

Dinner candles that were unprotected from the wind gave off soot and blew out. Consider alternative dinner lighting.

Nice place with a good setting. Nice rooms with a view over the Thamakalane River. friendly owners who checked in every night.

Steep pricing. I still cant figure out why lodges in Botswana are so expensive per night. Rooms are comfortable though. On arrival there were three ladies who were supposed to assist carrying luggage to the rooms but they all disappeared after showing us the rooms and we had to lug everything to the rooms ourselves from the car. The rooms are not close to the parking area. Many items not available on menu. Seemed odd that for two nights (when lodge was quiet with few guests) we had full choice of menu and when the lodge was busier we were restricted to only two options - not sure if it was due to the kitchen being too busy or trying to cut costs.

Disappointing experience

The view is beautiful and some chalets are really nice inside.

All chalets are advertised with river view (and priced accordingly) but several chalets are in the back without view and have a significantly lower standard. The pool is out of order with no alternative, discount or advance notice. Laundry costs more than 100usd for a bag.

Nice place along the river. Friendly staff.

It was too expensive for what it offered, for example, you couldn't drink from the tap and when you complimentary bottle ran out you had to buy more. It was not luxurious as the price would suggest.

The room was lovely and the dinner that we were served was delicious. We were very satisfied with our booking and will stay again on future trips.
