Great location, friendly staff and ample parking available and the breakfast was 10/10
bathroom toilet needed a plumber as the toilet was continually flushing, when I reported it the staff were already aware of the problem. Missing ceiling light cover so the electrical supply was not covered and doesn't meet wiring regulation requirements. Low beams in the pub which is quirky and consistent with the age of the building and low ceilings in the bathroom so mind you head if your tall.

Location to the High Street.
Free parking.
Friendly Hotel Staff.
Excellent food & service, with great value for money.
Bathroom was very small, which may be a problem for some guests. (Room 3).

Its quirkiness was fascinating!
Playing dodge the creaky floorboards whilst feeling tipsy without the alcohol, on the floor of a 1400s building, was entertainment enough! A much bigger en-suite room than we expected, with all the comforts for a good nights sleep (the windows do open for those warm nights!), tea/coffee facilities, towels, toiletries and a fan!
The staff were fabulous, nothing was too much trouble and they all took the time to engage with us….a rarity these days!
We had the most delicious breakfast, very clearly cooked fresh with local ingredients.
An 11am check out meant that we weren’t rushed to get up and away.
A really enjoyable night away! Thanks for enhancing a birthday treat!
Nothing to dislike….if I had to find something it would be to make the room darker as there’s a lot of outside light (fine once you’re asleep!)

The Chequers is in a great location for visiting Battle. It is within walking distance of The Abbey, the Battlefield, the station and Battle high street.
The rooms are very comfortable and clean and the pub has lots of traditional features like creaky floors and low ceilings because of the age of the building.
All the Staff were very helpful and friendly and the food is delicious.

Bathroom was very small, but it was OK.

Breakfast was excellent! 13 friends joined us (pre booked & everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.
Just a personal comment, the bed was too hard for me.

The room was over the pub bar and near a roundabout, but the room was very quiet!
Convenient location for us in Battle
Excellent free car parking
The pub was advertised with creaky floorboards. but they were VERY creaky - no quiet trips to the bathroom during the night!
We had trouble finding the switch for the landing light, which was very necessary as the room was up a short flight of stairs, very dark without a light.

Can't really think of anything except the shelf in the bathroom wasnt situated very well you couldn't hold your head over it when cleaning your teeth but that was a minor problem the shower was lovely if a little cosy .

Fabulous property with such lovely staff.
The weather but that's not their fault.

A very friendly team with an exceptional room. Me and my husband stayed here the night before our church wedding blessing ceremony. The team were so helpful and understanding by storing our bags before we checked in and letting us get ready in the morning. The room and it's amenities were fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to any couple as it's a beautiful building with a lovely atmosphere in the heart of battle.
Nothing it was perfect

This was a lovely old building. Good to explore battle. The staircase was a talking point!
The rooms were missing something. A bit of character?! Cafetière was disgusting. Hard to fill kettle up in sink. Most disappointing were the staff. We didn’t get asked about breakfast on arrival. We went out and had dinner. Came back and wanted a drink and immediately were asked what we were doing there. Telling us we can’t eat. After explaining we were staying and just wanted a drink that was fine. When going to outlet room we asked about breakfast and said we wanted a table and were told the best time to come down. In the morning when we went down to breakfast we were again asked what we were going there, then they didn’t know which wax our taxable as it hadn’t been written down properly. We weren’t given menus on being seated. When eventually we were and ordered drinks lattes came out in tiny glasses and we could see others being served in latte glasses. Breakfast was beautiful. No complaints and compliments to the chef. Just a shame we mere made to feel so unwelcome and like we were an inconvenience by the front of house staff apart from the first girl who showed us to our room.

The staff were very nice and it was a good location.
We paid for the best room and were given a small room with one window facing a fire exit with a permanately on emergency light. I complained that this was not the room we had booked and that the one we had booked was opposite our room with the door open and vacant. They disputed this until I showed them the booking and picture. They blamed the website but let us have it. That was a relief as we would have left and demanded a refund.

Good location and fair price

Good but would prefer lighter option eg fruit, mousli, yogurt breakfast.
Dinner good
Ensuite tight, no towel rails. No live television.

Fantastic staff were very helpful and kind letting us move rooms, because of a problem with the TV.

It's an ancient, funky, characterful inn with the exposed beams, low ceilings and uneven floors that you expect. This is mixed with a hip modern decor and music, and it works beautifully. Staff are fantastic, the food great, the location perfect for exploring on foot, and the carpark extra convenient.
Really, it was fantastic. If you take your drinks to relax INSIDE the ancient fireplace, just mind your head. Highly recommended.

Helpful staff, inspired menu, historical building comes with its own charm (and reduced height doorways so "mind your head"), great location for a walk through the battleground & Abbey.
I may have concussed myself on a doorway or two but that didn't detract from the overall experience. Due to the age of the building, the bathroom hallway in my room had a slight slope that may be difficult to navigate when wet for anyone with mobility issues.

Not as clean as it could be

Good central location with easy walk to town centre. Breakfast - although circa 1 hour delay between ordering and receiving the food, once received, it was of good quality and portion size. As the venue advertises breakfasts to the general public I would have preferred the room rate to include breakfast.
The room size was good and included essentials, tea tray included fresh coffee and a cafeteria but no biscuits.
The bath had a hand shower with no option to fix it above oneself so was a little awkward to use - property age & room layout might make such an improvement difficult.
The room was adjacent to the road and secondary glazing worked well to reduce noise levels although removed the option to add ventilation. Luckily the temperature was low enough for this not to cause an issue.
