It was clean and tidy and the bed and pillows were comfortable
4.1
One of the most welcoming hostels in Auckland. Staff are simultaneously professional and down-to-earth. Abundant kitchen space with a plethora of whiteware, stove hobs, and appliances. Significant food storage space. Comfortable lounge. There's also a pool table in the basement. Clean facilities. Sturdy bed frames with access to storage (bring your own large padlock). Good atmosphere - a comfortable mix of keeping to yourself while having the option to socialize. There is a door code that changes regularly so no randoms can just walk in - I experienced this at previous hostels so I was relieved to see this security feature in action.
The bed storage could definitely be more secure - the bolt sliders need to be adjusted and hinges need to be added. I could simply move the whole panel - with the bolt remaining locked with a padlock - and (with a little difficulty) remove the panel to access my belongings. Room 19, bed E.
However, I am being devil's advocate as it would be pretty obvious to anyone in the room that the storage is not yours if you tried this. Although, you can often just be the only one in an 8 bed dorm.

Location amongst nightclubs

- Friendly and helpful staff
- late check in available
- clean, well stocked kitchen
- bad smell in top floor showers. I opted to shower elsewhere.
- incredibly rough location. I didn’t feel safe going he outside the hostel alone at night. Lots of homeless and drug addicts hanging around. A fatal shooting occurred 10 minutes away, which has prompted me to check out & move elsewhere.

Really good facilities and I liked the vibe because it's a bit smaller which means more cozy for me. Kitchen and everything else is without issue and the beds are proper and I slept really well.
Sometimes it's a bit noisy from the street because of the thin insulation but I slept good anyway.

This hostel is located close to the CBD in a interesting inner city spot. There is an abundance of restaurants within easy walking distance. This was convenient as my trip with Haka/Intrepid left from this hostel the next morning.
The shared mixed gender bathrooms and toilets were not clean. I knew i was sharing bathroom and toilet facilities, but i did not realise beforehand, that the facilities were for both females & males.
As my room was located up several flights of stairs, it was a wee bit challenging carrying my luggage up & down the large staircases. There is no lift available in this older style building.

Noisy outside most of the night from street people

Everything about Haka Lodge was brilliant. From the time of arriving to leaving. Accommodation was comfortable, clean, staff were friendly...location handy
No negatives.
4.1
Nice bunk beds ! Great kitchen. Very friendly staff.
Doors are very noisy.
4.1

4.1
Central location with well-equipped facilities and friendly staff.
Unfortunately, the WiFi was not quite strong enough throughout the property.
4.1
Spacious facilities, tidy.
The windows did not close, fresh air entered all night, being close to a party street the windows did not insulate the noise because they are old. The sheets had fungus and we noticed it the next morning.
I couldn't sleep well, it's cold and the bed has fungus. It is not equivalent to the price of the room.

perfect 1 night stay
can be noisy cuz directly at K Road

just like pictures, my stay was incredible, staff was really nice and willing to help, I didn’t wanted to leave! definitely recommended
k road is very near the centre but really loud at weekend nights
4.1
Good location, communal areas were clean.
Next to a bar and the windows are not sound proof at all, even with ear plugs you could still hear the noise until early hours in the morning.

great location
4.1
Convenient location, walkable to city center / Ponsonby / Newmarket / Parnell
Dorm beds allow some privacy thanks to curtains + each bed has its own lamp and electrical plug
A lot of free food (left by previous backpackers) at your disposal in the kitchen, also well equipped kitchen
The hostel collects items backpackers don’t need anymore to give away to arriving travelers so you could find something you need for free (clothes, travel guides, books, ..), they also gave free SIM cards
Staff was nice
Cleanliness in the bathroom area could have been better
Some dorms (including the big 20 beds one) were at the underground level
The hostel lacked a place to hang out at night as the kitchen/sitting room was close for cleaning every night from 10pm to 11pm

First experience of a hostel. Not in a rush to repeat.
No sleep. Outside noisy most of the night. Hard work pushing luggage from transport centre to location of hostel (all up hill). Very busy place, lots of people and didn't know where to find anything or what the facilities were (i.e poor reception).
4.1
Great facilities and common area. Free tea and coffee. Nice curtain on bed.
The dark curtains on the room window. It is hard to wake up when it is so dark. I feel that it is not necessary when you have the bed curtains.

people, staff, ambient, location
maybe just a better kitchen ! but it was great
4.1
Nice rooms with a lot of space. The bed was comfortable and the hostel was nice and clean.
In general, it is a really good hostel.
The bathrooms could have been bigger, especially the showers.
4.1
The room was nice. It was clean and had a good bed. The attached bathroom was also clean, and had soap and shampoo. There was a setup for late check-ins too, I got an email that our key would be in a key locker, and I received the codes to get into the front door and the locker. The only thing unclear about the email was that it mentioned two different room numbers, whereas we only had one.
We could temporary store our luggage after check-out too, so we didn't have to keep our bags around the whole day before we left for the airport.
On arrival, the promised key for the room was not actually there! Since the reception was closed, we didn't really know what to do at first. Thankfully one of the guests knew how to get into the reception, check the books and give us our key.
The walls were quite thin, so you can hear the other rooms/outside. But we were prepared for that, and the other guests were quiet at night.
