About this house rental
The Sand Dollar Cottage is a classic quaint Maine cottage in picturesque Maine fishing village that just finished a major remodel which came out beautiful! The first floor master bedroom has a queen size bed. There are two more bedrooms upstairs which walk out to a brand new deck with awesome views of the ocean.
There is a dining room and sitting area adjacent to the living room which has amazing views of the crashing ocean . The kitchen has everything you'd need. A full bathroom completes the first floor.
The location of the Sand Dollar Cottage in West Point makes an ideal “home base” for any vacation you choose. For those who “need to get away from it all” you can spend your entire vacation in West Point. Guests can lazily relax on our deck or perhaps take a short stroll to Cat Cove for swimming, shell collecting and tide pool exploring. Cat Cove is a great location to launch your kayaks for a day of exploring nearby harbors and islands. Be sure to keep a look out for eagles, loons, cormorants and seals! A Maine vacation must is fresh seafood for a lobster or clam bake. You can take a leisurely stroll down to the local lobster pound for the fresh catch of the day.
History: For those of you who enjoy more history and more activity, West Point and its surrounding areas provide just that. West Point is one of the oldest and scenic fishing villages in Maine. Many of the locals are descendants of the original fishermen who settled here. Close to West Point is historic Popham. Popham is one of the earliest English settlements during Colonial America being settled in 1607. Though it was unsuccessful it led to later settlement along the Maine coast. Popham State Beach is a beautiful 500 acre beach of white sand. It is definitely worth a visit. When the tide is out, you can walk across the beach to a nearby island. Fort Popham, from the Civil War years is close by and is ready to be explored.
The nearest city to West Point is Bath, “the City of Ships”. Maine’s first ships were built here in this area around 1607-1608. If you are interested in shipbuilding the Maritime Museum offers a glimpse into Maine’s boat building past.
Shopping and exploring: Quaint shops and restaurants make Bath a fun day trip. Boat rentals can be found in Bath for touring or fishing the Kennebec River. Golf courses are also in the area. To the north of Bath is Boothbay Harbor. It is another excellent day trip for vacationers! It has shops, restaurants and antiques. Whale watching, Puffin watching and lighthouse boating excursions are available at the wharf. Brunswick, another historic town nearby offers shopping, restaurants, Bowdoin College and the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum. L.L.Bean’s flagship store is located south in Freeport. It is opened 24 hours a day and is a good place to go on rainy days. Freeport also has many name brand outlets. Portland is about an hour away and has many historic sites, shopping and great restaurants as well.
After many request we now offer sea kayak rentals on site for exploring the coast and harbors. Both singles and tandems.

Great home base for a family of 4 with a four and a two year old that like to be outside. Easy to get to popham, as well as a local beach, and some trails for kids. Safe 5 mile down and back running with the kids in the pushchair. Would definitely come back next summer.
Bill graciously dropped off some needed TP.
Of note, if bad weather not a ton to do with a 4 and a 2 year old. Sleepy neighborhood for the most part, but a neighbor did have a loud get together one night, but nothing too crazy. A few neighborhood kids seemed to use the yard/driveway as a cut through.

A quaint neighborhood with a wonderful view. The cottage was clean, well stocked for cooking, and perfect for families of different abilities as there is a first-floor bedroom and bathroom and second-floor bedrooms and bathroom. Two lovely back decks with the best views on the second floor. Peaceful. Private. We had to travel with our elderly tiny dog and it was perfect to have a location to accommodate dogs. We would consider staying again. To clarify, the listing states that there is a hot tub (which we understood to signify an outdoor hot tub), but that is not the case from what we could find. There is a bathtub on the first level for those who would find that important. We traveled with a 15 and 13 year old who loved the experience and Popham beach in the rain and fog! Yes, our entire stay was a little chilly and rainy, but the beach was still fun and Bath, ME a wonderful town to explore. Don't miss Renys...such a true Maine treat. Brunswick was a fun stop on the way up and home. Thank you for a great stay. Bill was a responsive host.

Very comfortable stay for our family of four. Great view of the ocean from the second floor deck. Plenty of room for our family to spread out. Extremely clean, neat house. Modern kitchen. Very quiet neighborhood on the end of a peninsula. Very responsive caretaker. Had one small issue that was fixed within 45 minutes of me texting him. Would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful 5 day getaway to coastal Maine. The place was perfect for our needs, plenty of room, well stocked and well maintained. Best of all was the location right on West Point in Phippsburg, just a quick walk down to the waterfront with local lobstermen and an oyster shack/museum. We are definitely planning on coming back here next summer.

We stayed here for a family reunion in the area, and found it suited our needs just fine. West Point is a very small tightly packed hamlet but was very quiet, given the proximity of the houses to each other. The house is very comfortable and we liked the decks on the first and second floor.

This property is located in the sweetest little fishing village. You are a walk away from most of the essential “maine” experiences. Walk down and get fresh caught lobster, clams or fish from the local dock. Rent kayaks or take boat tours both located a walks distance from the property. Stop in to the museum to get a make your own lobster roll kit and talk to the local owner who was so nice. Sit at the cove and let your kids search for shells, sea glass, and crabs. A quick drive takes you to the local store Bensons that has everything you could need at cheaper prices than most of the surrounding grocery stores including homemade pastries and an entire make to order deli. A quick drive has you at popham beach, local restaurants, or Bath for sweet boutique shopping. The place itself was perfect for our family with plenty of room for everyone and everything you could need for cooking up any of your local dishes. It also has a washer and dryer which is always a huge plus with kids. We are already planning a trip back.

We enjoyed every moment of our stay at the Sand Dollar Cottage. The home had everything we needed and the views of the water were extra special. The furnishings are comfortable and the place was very clean. We hope to return. It was super relaxing and the neighbors were so friendly!

This is one of a jumble of cottages clustered on a spit of land between two rocky coves. It is not a buzzy mecca of shops and restaurants, but Bath is not too far away and it is only 15 minutes or so to Popham. It's just a very nice place to be.

Sweet Maine coastal spot
Really sweet space. We came for a caregiver respite, and it was a lovely respite in this very comfortable home. The bed was so comfortable, the view is unbeatable, close to gorgeous beaches and rocky coastal and woodland walks. Great covid safety measures. Walk down the street to buy your lobster!

Perfect weekend getaway with great views!
We loved the house, and the West Point neighborhood was just lovely. There are gorgeous views from the decks, particularly the upper deck, which is off both upstairs bedrooms. The fire pit in the back yard is a nice touch. Bill was very responsive and helpful. We were just there for a fall weekend but we imagine it must be fantastic in the summer!

Secluded location
Secluded location But not far from a few restaurants and grocery store. House had everything we needed and was very warm and comfortable. Love that we could take a short stroll to the beach and the property manager was awesome. Must check out Popham State Beach.

Amazing time!
Our group had an amazing time at Bill’s cottage! It was so beautifully decorated and was very comfortable for the 5 of us (plus our dog). We had so much fun exploring Phippsburg and Bath and swimming at Totman Cove and Cat Cove. Beautiful skies for stargazing at night by the fire and viewing the sunset and sunrise! The kitchen was well stocked with different cookware, making our lobster-cooking dreams come true! :) We had a truly incredible time and would love to visit again someday! Bill was very responsive and the neighbors were quite friendly! This place is the best!!

Absolutely PERFECT spot for anyone!
This property has it all. There were 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 kids under age 8. The rooms were plenty large to put the kids wherever they needed to be. It is furnished with an adorable mix of antique pieces, but easy to child proof. We rented kayaks for an afternoon in the cove, we cooked lobster at the cottage purchased on the dock a couple cottages down, used the pass for Totman Preserve beach (PERFECT for kids!), and Popham (awesome at lowish tide, but prepare for a walk in and out!). The circle of cottages here is adorable, the perfect picturesque fishing village. Bill is super helpful, super friendly, and super responsive. We are already looking for excuses to book another stay here! 15 out of 10 rating!

Great Property! Photos hardly do it justice.
Bill was an excellent host, great communication to set up the kayak rental for the weekend and was available for anything we needed. This property is in such a beautiful spot, a one minute walk to Cat Cove, or down the street to buy lobsters. It is about a 10 minute drive to the store, but it was exactly what we were looking for to have a nice quiet weekend away. We were all sad to leave. The view from the decks is beautiful, the house was well stocked with cooking implements and comfortably furnished, really everything we were looking for. Looking forward to going back!

The property changed ownership and communication was difficult. Once we got there, no problem.

Better than a 5 star!!!
We rented this spot for my wedding. It was the "guys house". My father which is a bit older with health issues, my 7 year old son, and some 25 year old friends stayed here with me and we ALL loved it. It was a great accommodation for us all. My point here is this rental is great for any age and any occasion! The communication with the managers was great. We even saw them on site and they were a pleasure! I can't say enough good things! This was all in all a great weekend, in a great house which created some great memories!

Stunning!
First off the night sky and views were amazing! The house felt very spacious and the decks were and porches were a great time. The water is so close you can touch it! I didn’t know that there would be a manager that would check in Incase we needed anything but there was! Bill was great, he rounded up what we needed including some random metal bits to hold our Lobster pot over the fire. He also told us about the additional parking across the street. The locals were all very nice. Seahorse lobster pound was great and in the words of our resident Lobster Guru “ the price real wasn’t bad especially for being so close to Portland”. It was a bit of a haul to get to a town but it wasn’t that bad. Also just go to Bissons if they’re open seriously they have everything! Bissons employee “If we don’t have it you probably don’t need it”. Also the state Beach Popham was amazing! If you go stick around for Low tide a land bridge to a little island appears! Also getting down to Portland wasn’t that bad it was maybe an hour. Finally, if you’re into antiques or talking to fun people take a right on Sabasco Road and keep driving until you see a Open sign (this is where my GPS thought North Creek Farm was). This is where you’ll meet Carol and an amazing antique collection. All in all We were over the moon with this rental. I was 100% rent again. If you want to Have a city vibe and be in Portland this is not the place...but also if that’s the goal why are you in Maine. But if you want a quite beautiful fun Maine vibe place that has great small finds, a Starbucks only 25min away and still access to Portland ( about an hour) Then you can not go wrong! We happily slept 7 also. My only note is that the other houses do sometimes cut across the side of the property to get to the road on foot. So if you’re jumpy like me it’s not an axe murder it’s just a Local.

Beautiful, quiet, simple
We loved spending time in the backyard and on the upstairs porch! Great ocean views, pretty yard with a fire pit, and plenty of seating. House is rustic in a charming way, furnishings are dated, but bathrooms are updated. Service is terrible, but it was nice to unplug for the weekend. Overall, it was perfect for our family staycation. Just a couple things that would have been better... the kitchen lacked a few things (measuring spoons, lighter or matches for grill, limited serving/cooking/grilling utensils, old cheap cookware). We had to buy dish soap for the kitchen. There was also no propane gas for the grill, but Bill the property manager got us some very quickly. Also, wifi password was nowhere to be foubs, but we got it from Bill when he stopped by on the first day. Extra bathroom towels would have been very helpful too!

West Point Adventure
Nice rental with beautiful views in a charming fishing village. Walked to Beach access at Cat Cove. Found souvenir sea glass on the shore and bought a homemade sea glass magnet next door. Purchased lobsters from the Carrying Place and steamed for dinner. Bill provided kayaks so we explored the wharf, islands, and beach areas. Bill maintains the property and is quick to assist and provide helpful info. We enjoyed our adventures while staying in Sand Dollar Cottage.

Great location on a quiet street. The views from the deck were beautiful.
The home is beautiful, inside and out. The kitchen is well appointed and the whole house was very clean. The neighborhood is quiet and the views from the decks are beautiful. Great place to relax and explore the surrounding towns.

Pleasant, spacious, quiet
We enjoyed our stay. The house was spacious and generally comfortable. There were a few things which could have improved the stay. Air conditioner in downstairs bedroom does not work very well. There need to be more towel racks in the bathrooms. The oven did not work. Emergency candles, matches, flashlights would be good to have around as we lost electricity for about 8 hours due to a thunder storm. The place was quiet and we like the heavy shades on the windows for those sleeping -in days. A front door screen would be nice. All in all we had a good stay. Margaret and John
