Local Activities

Moreton Island "The Gem of South East Queensland" is one of the best experiences that Australia has to offer. One of Australia's largest sand islands, making Moreton Island perfect for that much needed getaway. Moreton is almost completely sand with no roads, so a 4wd is needed past the landing points. Just across the bay from civilisation, Moreton is quickly being discovered as an unspoilt paradise for people wanting to relax and enjoy nature.

The house is only a minute walk to the bayside of the island, with calm water for children to play. The surfside is a 5 minute beach drive. A must to experience the most pristine beaches in SouthEast Queensland.

A short drive north, for the more energetic, climb the sand dunes, try sand tobogganing or snorkelling at the Tangalooma Wrecks.

It's a great getaway. We loved the big kitchen and the outdoor area which suited our big group perfectly. This was the first time for us staying at Kooringal right next-door to the Gutter bar. Very convenient and fun. On that side of Moreton Island though you are bound by the tides, and you will have to plan your daytrips carefully. We did have an issue with the bore water being very smelly and brown. The smell was definitely not for the faint hearted. There was no rainwater left. We stayed during peak season though, so this could all have been used by previous large groups during the Christmas period and there hasn't been a lot of rainfall during this holiday either. We might've just been unlucky. Overall great place

Need to fix the roof in the king bed room, luckily we had a great weather. Extra toilet for the bunk beds room would be great. Love the out door place.

Having stayed at this property 5 hrs ago we were excited to return.Completely alarmed at the decline
The start to our holiday looked promising with an early entry. We were told the thatched roof was leaking & the owners couldn’t get repairs as there were no tradesmen available & that usual cleaners were unavailable. We were a little concerned. Upon entry we found a filthy kitchen, holes in thatched roof as stated, but the general condition of the home had sadly declined dreadfully. We called the owners immediately after our brief inspection & asked them to come back. We pointed out the frying pan full of fat left in the kitchen draw, the filthy oven & kitchen bench. The uncleaned fridge & the cutting boards that should have been thrown out years ago. One of the owners became agitated & at one point aggressive. We were asked what would resolve the problem. We said we were willing to do another clean and stay provided the cleaning fee was waived and we negotiated 1 free night out of our 5 night stay. Three of of us started cleaning, it took us almost 3 hrs. A terrible start to our holiday:-( Over the course of our stay: It rained and water leaked in next to the bed. The dishwasher was disgusting & everything was hand washed for 2 days. Water ran all over the bathroom floor during showering which pooled making it extremely dangerous, needing mopping after every use. Fly screens full of holes in most rooms. To open the windows you had to open & close them from outside as the screens were so tight you could not get to the latches. The grease trap was overflowing with dirty water into the garden & it stunk after washing up or showering. The curtains were full of mould. Couches inside & out filthy. The last straw was waking up with a cockroach under a pillow!! OMG ... the list goes on & on. This is so sad as our first stay was truly amazing. Hence our return. We left the place having cleaned the bbq again (the owners gurneyed it upon our request as it was caked in built up grease). Scrubbed the entire kitchen bench Disinfected all the light switches, door handles & surfaces throughout the house Completely cleaned & serviced the dishwasher Wiped down all the outdoor furniture Put down some cockroach baits Readjusted the shower head to minimise the water flowing out of the shower. We’re sure with a couple of weeks of deep cleaning, repairs & maintenance & some new soft furnishings & cutting boards this property can be restored to how it was when we visited 5 years ago ..which was perfect. TLC is urgently needed!
