Lovely old world charm, excellent hosts and excellent food.
Lovely old world charm. The pictures don't do the rooms justice. The food and the service were both excellent.
It was a but quiet for us. Everybody had gone to back to their rooms by 9,30 leaving us alone in the bar. No the hotels fault obviously. I thought it would be an amazing place to have a murder mystery weekend with your friends

The six hour drive from London was more than worth it.
The six hour drive from London was more than worth it. The hospitality was phenomenal, the accommodation superb. Our room was large with a King’s size bed and very spacious bathroom with shower and bath tub. We enjoyed sitting by the fire in the lounge early evening sipping our pre dinner cocktails. And talking about dinner - words cannot describe it. A culinary heaven. Finally, we were lucky to meet the “house” red squirrel who made frequent visits to the balcony in order to help itself to the hazel nuts.

Wonderful 2 night stay. Couldn't ask for more and made some wonderful memories!
Excellent food (Thanks Adrian!!). Staff amazing! Met at the car by a wonderful gentleman who carried our bags in and showed exceptional care and kindness throughout...Thank You! Nothing too much trouble and attention to dogs exemplary (remember all their names). The owners of this establishment work very hard!! as do the employed staff! Thank you so much! AND they make an exceptional first time Baby Guinness!! Lovely restaurant (fine dining) and did I say food Stunning! Lovely comfortable lounge area with a roaring log fire. Room comfortable and very clean (complimentary fruit, fruit liquor, dog treats, tea and coffee). Lovely bathroom. Cozy bar area where dogs are welcome! It was the little touches to our stay that made this a home from home stay. The location was superb.....peaceful and stunning.... A short car drive to Keswick town which was wonderful. We also drove to Bassenthwaite Lake and walked around it (please do this with caution...there is no official path all the way around it (we should have researched this better)....people access segments of it e.g fishing or sailing club....we found ourselves in dense forested areas (holding back nettles and thorns to get through) and ended up on the dual carriageway a few times to get past denser areas....we walked approx 5.5 hours of mainly rough terrain! On the plus side we got some fab pics of the lake and mountains and the little chihuahua slept all night! we did have a good laugh during this bear Grylls moment but it's NOT for the faint hearted!
Signal was obviously very hit and miss (nothing they can do about this) but surprisingly we did not miss this at all! I honestly can't think of anything they could do better...they seem to think of everything and couldn't be more helpful.... The atmosphere is so friendly you feel like you're amongst friends. Thank You!
