The location was perfect right in the centre of town where everything is within an easy walk. As such do expect some noise from people leaving nearby bars and restaurants in the early hours. It is a small price to pay to stay in such an old building inhabited by Dickens.
Breakfast is left on a tray within the room as there is no dining room. It consists of ceral, fruit and packaged croissants. there is also tea and coffee int he room.
On the ground floor there is an independent spanish restaurant.
It is an old building with the limitatiions that come with that so I feel they have done the best they can.

Fantastic location and a beautiful historic hotel. The staff was super friendly and helpful—we were able to check in early and they were kind and inviting. Our breakfast was delicious!
Everything was great…we could not ask for friendlier staff, cleaner room or more central location!

It was clean and the room was lovely
Too close to city with late night and early noise.
Not much choice for breakfast: full English, vegetarian English or toasted sandwich with crisps.

Centrally located, unique, historic hotel with comfortable bed, spacious room with views and modern bathroom with great shower. Would stay again.
For less mobile people the stairs might be tricky. Also, if you are a light sleeper the noise from people in the street might be an issue.

Great location and free upgrade. Super friendly, helpful staff.

Breakfast and hotel restaurant food was very good and the staff professional, always polite and helpful. All was absolutely fine, excellent central location, room was overlooking road, Jacuzzi bath, clean and tide.

The historic vibe is amazing and the breakfast was good. The Dickens Room is gorgeous and full of charm
The pillows were awful

Great historical location around the corner from the cathedral.
Bit loud outside, Saturday night.

Very close to the centre of Canterbury. An interesting, historic building with an impressive four poster bed.
Bathroom was small and cramped. Noise from the restaurant prevented early sleep, though it stopped just before 11pm. Breakfast choices were limited.

The location. The fact that it was so old and interesting. Must have been renovated quite recently as it was so clean and fresh. Old hotels can be a bit grubby. The breakfast was included and very good, not on the minimal side. The staff were welcoming and helpful and very pleasant.
It is hard to get used to the sloaping floors in these old hotels, You feel drunk as soon as you get up, but that is part of their attraction and novelty.

The location of the Sun Hotel is fantastic.
Breakfast is not served until 9am - although a cold tray was offered it's not the same as a cooked breakfast in the restaurant.

Historic hotel only a stones throw from the Cathedral. . Excellent staff and hospitality. El Sol restaurant downstairs, amazing.
Towels could have been bigger.

Beautiful room, great location, staff very attentive and polite

The hotel was lovely, steeped in history and lots of period features. Location right in the middle of Canterbury and right next to the impressive Cathedral. Staff very attentive and friendly, couldn't do enough for you.
The room although large was a little muddled for example, it didn't have a bin and or a dressing table. The TV was relatively small and only just worked from the bed. Furniture not really befitting the history of the building.

Excellent location. 10 yards or so from Canterbury Abbey. Breakfast great. Hosts very good. Don’t be put off by the fact you enter through a Tapas restaurant to get there. Dickens room well recommended.
Shower was a bit temperamental.

Staff really friendly and tell you about the history of the hotel. There are loads of original features, we stayed in the Cathederal room and it was lovely and quirky with sloping walls and floors. The tapas restaurant is definitely worth visiting, really tasty food and excellent staff.
The mattress was a bit uncomfortable, it could do with a mattress topper on it as you could feel springs.

Breakfast was good, location good, room was pretty & had a nice view.
Bedsheets & pillows felt very cheap & mattress was very uncomfortable. Heating was on full with no controls to turn it down. Products in bathroom (shampoo/body wash/soap) felt cheap. For £185 per night you’d expect a comfortable bed & better bathroom amenities.

A most lovely and cozy space that’s centrally located. The hosts were absolutely amazing and welcoming. highly recommended!
lots of steep stairs - which weren’t a problem for us by may be for others. I will say that our lovely host carried the luggage up so that was no trouble at all!

The room was amazing and the jacuzzi bath was lovely. The staff were so friendly and Gerry the chef, what a great guy!!! Highly recommend eating downstairs at El Sol!
Nothing. It was perfect

Ok but how about a pot of coffee and why serve cereal with the cooked breakfast. No choice of cereal and no fruit. No choice of bread
Room had peeling wallpaper. Breakfast

If you are looking for an authentic English experience in a historical building, then the Sun Hotel is the place to stay. We loved the fact that Dickens stayed here. The rooms are a quinticential example of period charm; cozy and quirky, but with the convience of wifi and USB charging ports. The central location means everything is within walkable distance. We plan to return to explore Canterbury and Whitstable, which is only a 20 minute drive away. Our fantastic hosts ensured we had a wonderful stay. Thank you both for making us so welcome. There was nothing to dislike, as the hosts are on hand to ensure your stay is the best it can be.
