Excellent(445 Reviews)4.2
Room was fine, quite dark. Was only there one night. Breakfast was mediocre.
4.2
It was generally a good stay but the room was cold on arrival and the radiator did not work. I was brought a little portable heater that helped.
4.2
Poor, booked for two nights only stayed one , asked for money back.
Room dirty , small, shabby, bathroom mouldy and dirty. Certainly overpriced for what we were offered. We were offered other rooms one the bed was too small(we had deliberately booked for a king size as we are both tall/large people . The other room was larger , but still very shabby. The breakfast was cold, when supposed to be hot , water for tea only just warm.
4.2
Very dated bathroom filthy, one of the towels had what looked like previous occupants poo on it.
Restaurant very very expensive for what it is.
Road noise is huge if on that side of the building
4.2
After 8 hours of driving it was upsetting to be told that the room we had booked was not available as they didn’t know we were bringing a dog. The booking site emphasised the hotel’s pet friendly attitude but there was no opportunity to indicate that guests would be bringing a pet. Although they then offered an alternative room we were forced to pay £25 for bringing our dog instead of the £15 detailed in the booking site.
4.2
Room was clean and could have done with a central light source as was a little dark. Plenty of showergel, handwash and shampoo in the rooms and.the shower was ok. Bathroom was clean. Only let down was the restaurant facilities as the food at Marcos was very poor.
4.2
Property especially bathroom need updating, restaurant expensive for what you get, service very good.
4.2
Expensive for the room but ok as for work
4.2
Cheerful efficient staff, spotless spacious room, navy blue wall, tea, coffee and biscuits, comfortable bed, right weight of duvet, quiet, thoughtfully given rooms at far end of corridor, heard nothing though Freddie Mercury concert taking place. Loved spiral bedside lights!. 2 tiny niggles: mirror in bathroom far too high, designed for 6' man, I am under 5'!!! Basin ?blocked, water ran out very slowly
Clare Blackburn room 303 22/06/24
4.2
The hotel overall was good but prices were high for the room my initial room the tv didn’t work so I had to move rooms on my own but it was an upgrade slightly better.
I would stay again if I had to but the price was Z little expensive as I said
4.2
The hotel and staff were both excellent. The evening, however, was somewhat spoilt with the service and quality of the food - Medium steak was ordered and was unfortunately well done, and sides which were ordered arrived 10 mins after the mains were peesented - Not impressed
4.2
Landed at 8, very friendly welcome. Room is basic but fine, needs to be updated.
Full restaurant menu, but no sandwiches.
EV charging- not very cheap.
Breakfast comprehensive and good.
4.2
We’ve stayed here many times over the years but we think this will be the last time. All I can say is that the hotel is completely run down to the ground and the only thing that is keeping it going in our opinion is the restaurant

Lovely place to stay

You'll need a car to get around as it's in the middle of nowhere. I'm a type of traveller who needs space so go for the Comfort room if you're the same. Room was adequate for a 3 star hotel so wasn't expecting much but the breakfast buffet was excellent. Very freshly made especially in batch as they don't allow hot food to sit there to get soggy. My friend may write a review complaining about staff not able to make a mocha so if you see that then ignore her comments. She isn't classy and doesn't understand times are hard.
4.2
How people are leaving good reviews for this place are beyond me. The place is a dive. Saved only by the decent food & quality breakfast served by the attached Marco restaurant. The “comfort” room I was given was far from that. Bed springy, furnishings battered, carpets stained, windows might as well not have been there with the draft and noise they let in. To top it off there is no light in the bathroom?! What’s all that about?
4.2
How anyone is leaving a good review about this place are beyond me. The place is dilapidated. The “comfort” rooms are far from their name, rooms are dated and cold, beds springy, and the draft and road noise from the old wooden windows… well it almost feels like there are no windows atall. My bathroom didn’t even have a light in it?! Maybe there are some refurbished rooms that are better and I was just shoved in the old ones?
The only saving grace is the restaurant and bar attached to the hotel, with good grub and serves up a quality breakfast.
4.2
Very nice hotel but seemed to be very understaffed, no one on receiption until 8.30am. The resteraunt only had 4-5 tables avilable because the lights were'nt working. The food was very good but wasn't made to feel very welcome. Perhaps it was the time of year but there weren't many guests staying. I would think twice about returning.
4.2
Friendly staff. Room was spotless and toasty warm as freezing outside. Bed was so comfortable hard to get out.
Food and service in restaurant brilliant.
We went to Bath for weekend and it was worth the 30 min drive to stay here for a third of the price of similar Bath hotels.
4.2
Great staff and very friendly. The only issue was in Rm 224 the kettle needed descaling and the jets in the jacuzzi bath as soon as i put it on all this stuff came out so had a shower instead which was good
4.2
just booked one night for a short break. Price was good so we hoped for an adequate 3-star experience. We were very pleasantly surprised. Room was extremely clean and comfortable and in our view was 4-star quality. We also had a very nice evening meal in the adjoining restaurant. Have stayed elsewhere in the area on previous visits but would certainly choose this hotel again in future.
4.2
I know you don't go to a Hotel to watch TV, but as this was business i just wanted to unwind before bed for an hour. TV in room 113 could only receive BBC1, all the other channels missing or picture breaking up.
The towels have a weird almost "chip fat" smell to them?
Bed was comfy, and the restaurant is great.
4.2
Lovely hotel, very nice rooms, a very comfy sleep. Very good all round
4.2
Nice Hotel, but poor stay.
Internet was very poor, constantly cutting out and disconnecting on any device (laptop/phone).
Poor nights sleep for an early work start as I was given a room with adjoining door to another guest. They were not particularly loud, but the door offered little to reduce any sounds/noise.
4.2
This was our third stay at The Gables, we had a four poster bedroom this time, which was lovely. In the bathroom there was a spa bath, unfortunately the spa part wasn't working.
4.2
A nice friendly run hotel. Quick good check in, the room was ok but just needed a bit of attention in some areas. The shower was brilliant with good water pressure. The restaurant is a Marco Pierre White franchise and the steak was nice. A lot of customers ordered a pizza and did look really nice, so maybe next time. The staff were all friendly and polite.
4.2
Adequate hotel clean, and well equipped one night only for business.
4.2
Nice clean and comfy hotel, a little overpriced with expensive and little food offering
4.2
Very nice people working there.
4.2
The hotel was good, the restaurant is overpriced both for food and wine and the food mediocre at best.
4.2
In room refreshments meager, breakfast for allergies poor. Wifi didn’t work no matter what we tried.
4.2
Hotel clean staff friendly, looking dated
4.2
A good location for visiting Dursley, Wotton, or Thornbury. Plus conveniently located near an M5 junction. However, there isn’t much else around the hotel.
4.2
Have stayed here before. Ideal location just off the M5 at junction 14 but not the quietest for traffic noise. Room was very comfortable and clean.
Disappointing that there are no lite bites of an evening in the bar. We were offered to book in the restaurant but we do not like Italian food.
A good choice for breakfast, continental and full English buffet, however as I said on my previous visit it isn't kept very warm! Neither was the water for tea and coffee.
It would have been nice to extend our stay but unfortunately our room was booked.
4.2
Good
4.2
Road side rooms need windows that seal better. Noisy all night
4.2
Staff are very friendly
4.2
Excellent room and bathroom, first class overnight stay.
4.2
2nd time of staying, polite check-in, room warm.
4.2
Cold bedroom, lots of road noise. No shower gel in the relevant container. No iron or ironing board. Old tired decor. Only dim side lights in bedroom, difficult to work by this light. Noise from interconnected room, which was not booked as well.
