Had a wonderful time - hotel adjacent to the cathedral so perfect location. Near lots of restaurants, bars and shops - walking distance. Friendly and helpful staff. Bar onsite until 11pm. Communal sitting room. Complimentary water. Continental breakfast included with option of paying for a delicious full cooked breakfast prepared to your liking. Room spacious, lovely and warm, a view of the cathedral a bonus. tea and coffee in room. We parked in a carpark on the hotel’s list, phoned the hotel when parked and they organised the parking ticket for us and just added it to our room bill. Ate in cricketers pub and the old weavers not far from hotel. Recommend pre-booking a table - food delicious. Loved staying at the hotel and can’t wait to go back

Great location. Noise was terrible - no double-glazing and a lot of people shouting outside throughout the night.

Great reception by Monica who made us feel most welcome. Hotel itself a little tired but characterful… staff had no uniform so not easy to identify.
Room was via an outside walkway but quiet; so slept well.

Very cute place. Its good one one or two night and the staff are very kind. Some rooms share bathrooms which are cleaned everyday, but a little odd imo. The curtains dont block out all the street light or are large enough to feel safe from the street side. Dont ask for a street facing window. Pretty clean. Squeeky floors, but it is an old old building. Cute for a night or two, but thats about it.

This was a great place to stay for our visit. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and the location was ideal

Lovely city centre hotel, great staff and service. Very quirky, but charming 1860's building with wonky flooring and a maze of corridors. We found it interesting.

Location is ideal for exploring the city , staff spot on , rooms could do with some modernisation especially the bathroom set up

Liked the staff very helpful and the eccentric character of the hotel

This is such a beautiful place to stay, right next to the cathedral.
There are different floors (all with stairs) and various size rooms. Some beds have metal frames which seem at first glance to be problematic for someone tall (6' 4") like me. The receptionist made note of this and asked whether I would prefer a room with a different type of bed.
I wanted to keep the view of the cathedral from the window, so stayed where I was and slept great - the surroundings were quiet and the morning felt heavenly.
The breakfast was served individually and of a very high quality. The breakfast room overlooks the public square with shops and a small monument.

We had an absolutely amazing stay at this wonderful hotel. I must stress how unusual the place is; it is an ancient building and there are stairs and uneven floors. To reach our room we went up some steps, crossed an outer upper terrace before walking through a lovely residents lounge to another flight of stairs. The rooms are above the shops along the Burgate, directly adjacent to the entrance to the cathedral.
Our beautiful room at the back, had a four-poster bed and views over rooftops to the Cathedral.
All of the staff at the hotel were outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble and they all went out of their way to ensure we had all we needed including information about parking, eating out, things to do and interesting pubs to visit!
The continental breakfast which is included in the price was excellent; fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, cereal, porridge, croissants and toast. My husband and son enjoyed the full English, which is an optional extra. This was brought to us at our table following ordering.
There is no doubt I would love to stay at Cathedral Gate again. A unique and lovely experience throughout.

The hotel was so quirky - I wanted to get into every nook and cranny to explore. The hotelier Rob was amazing, during check in, juggling several arriving guests at the same time, for his sense of humour and for noting the mobility issues I had after 6 hours on a coach! The room was clean and absolutely perfect.

Unfortunately no prior information re suitability for disabled guests and the hotel was very difficult to navigate on crutches
Breakfast poor, cold and a bit haphazard in service

The location was fantastic and the character of the property was charming. While parking was not easy, the staff did their best to help with luggage and made the stay truly special. I would happily stay here again.

Very charming and hospitable staff. Historic location next to the Cathedral. Comfortable rooms and excellent breakfast in a picturesque building.

Ok .. no en suite meaning shared toilet and shower and both were small rooms which is obviously not ideal but at least you know this in advance when you book, so your choice. No lifts, steep and narrow stairs, creaky floorboards, car parks a good 10 minute walk…. but, and critically, unbelievably well located for town and cathedral and very friendly and helpful staff. The continental breakfast options were fine and adequate. Place was clean and tidy, bed comfortable. So do not expect 5 star luxury, it is quirky but price was lower than other nearby hotels reflecting the issues, though nothing In Canterbury was cheap.

I misinterpreted parking facilities and had to park over a mile away. Still the accommodation was in a very good location in the centre of town

Lovely quirky old hotel with all the modern amenities. Amazing staff only too happy to help. Right in the centre of everything which came with the price of being a bit noisy from outside, however ear plugs were provided so there wasn’t much else that could be done. Would definitely recommend and come back.

You’ll never have a more higgledy piggeldy experience with a hotel than this one. But oh how it’s worth it! The buildings were built in perhaps the 1200’s, so the floors are very uneven. The rooms and baths are comfortable, the porridge for breakfast delicious and the location unbeatable. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. In short we loved it.

The Cathedral Gate Hotel is older than the West Gate leading into the Canterbury Cathedral! It's old, and proudly displays its age. Anyone staying there must want to enter into the atmosphere is medieval Canterbury, and enjoy the experience of crossing from building to building on the rooftop, and being right smack in the middle of the ancient city.

The hotel has it's own charme, directly located at the Cathedral, nicely polished up (since our last visit in 2007), offers very friendly service.
The slightly complicated distribution of rooms is owed to the old historic building.
No direct car parking in the vicinity, but unloading an loading possible.
We sure will come back

We love this hotel and came back to stay here again. The staff, quirky rooms and great breakfast are all a real plus. Unfortunately we were given a room at the front of the hotel and the Friday night revellers kept up a steady stream of noise, shouting etc until 4am. Needless to say, if you're going to stay here ask for a room at the back.

Quirky but nice hotel. Very convenient for central Canterbury. Nice and pleasant staff

A lovely hotel, clean, warm and comfortable in an ideal location right next door to the entrance of the Cathedral. A very old building full of character. The only problem being trying to find your room through the maze of corridors especially when you’ve had a few. A really pleasant stay enhanced by friendly and helpful staff.

Cathedral Gate Hotel is a must for anyone who wants to experience the authentic history of Canterbury right in the heart of it.
The staff were all exceptional and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area as far as places to visit, places to eat, local history and more. Especially Rob on reception who welcomed us and explained everything we needed to know to get the most out of our stay.
The continental breakfast was above and beyond what we expected and was delicious.
The rooms had all the essential amenities wrapped up in historic charm…the floors and walls were all uneven with age that added to the ambiance.
Highly recommend!
