Was given free upgrade to room with hot tub lovely room and excellent food

We arrived on a really busy Sunday afternoon the pub was packed but the lady who checked us in was lovely and welcoming and showed us straight to our room. On arrival to the room it was spotless clean and really cool with the air conditioning on ( which was a god send as it was a really hot day) .They had upgraded us to a room with a hot tub which was lovely.
Went into pub later for sunday lunch which was amazing but very over priced. Granddaughter loved the pool but there were 3 boys in there that had sneeked in they were very destructive throwin sun loungers in pool and upturning plant pots on decking but once barman saw them asked them to leave immediately.
Breakfast next day was continental but had lots of different cereal to choose from, different bread for toast, fruit etc only thing was milk in fridge had turned sour but once told this was rectifed immediately.
All staff were so friendly and could not do enough for you.
We had an excellent stay and would highly recommend to friends and family.

Great night great service comfy room bed lovely. Bike night beer and burger £10 and they were lovely

Straightforward budget accommodation, in one of a row of rooms behind the pub, each with a small porch facing the parking lot. In a fairly quiet location (but thin walls if you have noisy neighbors), comfortable with soft mattress and pillows. The owner is working his way through renovating. Free breakfast is simple continental, includes fancy coffees.

Lovely friendly hosts, buildings need some updating

Food was amazing all the staff were very friendly was a lovely little find will be coming back to stay again and defo back for food

A "work in progress". The rooms are motel style in the car park at the rear of the pub.
Most of the rooms do not seem to have been finished completely, with odd combinations of beds etc. Shower rooms not particularly clean.
Lots of work being undertaken at rear of pub and in the surrounding grounds (piles of debris everywhere).
Swimming pool looked ok.
4.2
Nice place to stay, had everything you needed. Is very dog friendly. the food and drink in the pub is fantastic, as is the welcome by the staff.

Very friendly people working there, gave us a fan because it was so hot. Sorted out the wifi too. Big bed and big, smart tv. Plenty of parking

This was one of the most horrible stays that I’ve had in a long time. Started out great with a really good dinner in the pub with excellent service. When I was taken to my room, I noticed that the door barely had a safety lock on it (concerning as a woman traveling solo). There were flies al over the room that I couldn’t get out. Worst part of all, another group of guests decided to use the hot tub, right adjacent to my room, from 2200 to almost 0500 while talking loudly the entire time. I got no sleep at all and was expected to work all the next day. If you’re going to provide services such as a hot tub and pool, there need to be hours of operation for the benefit of all. Could hardly wait to get of there!!

Welcomed on arrival lovely room & services explained. Dining in pub was very good & very sociable. Staff were a pleasure to be with.
Only down side car or taxi (expensive to/from town)
Would stay again no doubt

Excellent food, Room comfortable, clean and warm. Staff friendly and helpful. Some details of room could have been better. New management and they deserve to do well

No one at the property at 3.30 when I turned up, had to wait with other customers outside. Room very dated, tv control didn't work, bathroom light didn't work, shower was broken.
4.2
waited for 1 3/4 hours for meal to arrive. Apoligies realy did not mean much ny this time. Toilet did not flush. Room was freezing as heating had been turned off. small light in toilet not working. Continental breakfast was not put out in time. Despite paying for upgrade, this is the reality. Trring to get there but a l o n g way to go. It is such a dissapointment, after looking forward to our stay.

Querkie, clean and friendly

No one meeting me on arrival, phone call directed me to go and speak with chef to collect keys to room 9. Rooms are not above or attached to pub. Bed was comfortable, ensuite was roomy except for shower cubicle. TV in room had awful connection and most channels were not viewable. WiFi was okay. Ate at venue in evening, menu was small, but I had the lovely wagu burger. Service in pub was good. Car parking was free.

Friendly helpful staff, good food, nice bar. Local characterful place not a sterile chain hotel.

John was absolutely brilliant and his personality was very welcoming and his food was excellent. Very quirky but very comfortable.
I would recommend his food very highly

The property is rather dull and dated .. however was fine for my needs and my dog.. we had a chalet type room with our own door.. Telly a bit complex but I usually find that!! We were both made very welcome.. I also liked the trains going past
4.2
We had a short but sweet stay. The staff were super friendly and John is a master in the kitchen.
4.2
A little run down, the owner only took over a couple of months ago and he is working his way through the project
Staff and owner were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble and the food was amazing!

The room was perfectly clean and the food was excellent.

This B&B is still being renovated since takeover 3 months ago. It still needs atttention to the shower rooms. And a few other little upgrades which I explained to the staff so hopefully by the end of the season it will be upgraded. very pleasant staff . Secluded location down country roads
4.2
The staff were super friendly, This is an eclectic place which is clearly work in progress. Some things are new and great, some things just need replacing (duvets!). The food is good
4.2
Good location, very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food at pub on site.
4.2
No clean towels. Generally dirty rooms. Not keen to return.
4.2
Stayed 1 night.
Room has a curtain that does not cover the window.
Seating outside not useable as next to a dumping for windows and looked onto a hot tub for another room
The room has holes filled but not painted, a kettle that has nowhere otherthan the floor to plug in as no high up socket.

We had high hopes for the Dog & Castle based on the limited reviews for the place. Perhaps we are overly critical or the previous rerviewers were viewing the place through rose tinted glasses.
Basically the place is in a poor state of repair, and whilst some attept has been made to make good the worst defects, the efforts have been amateurish at best.
Fresh paint has been applied to just about everything, including the dinning tables!
I think that Lauren Cooper must have been engaged as the interior designer as the decor can only be described as "interesting".
There was a towel wrapped around the base of the sink stand, I suspect soaking up water from a leak and water appeared to be coming out from somewhere behind the toilet.
On the positive side our evening meal was good.
Look I understand that taking on a new business has a lot of challenges, but doing a half-arsed job on repairs to rooms that really need a serious revamp, by a professional builder, doesn't cut it these days. Saying bear with us while we sort this mess out, is no use to the guests staying there today.

First stay at Dog and castle and it was lovely. The staff were amazing and the whole place had a friendly and relaxed vibe. Rooms were nicely decorated, fresh and clean. It had a lovely beer garden area, pool and jacuzzis. Food was lovely but the menu was slightly limited. I would definitely go back!

We really appreciate being upgraded, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property has recently been taken over and there are a few maintenance issues, but it didn't affect the stay for us.
