Convenient location very near New Street station and near restaurants etc, but in a pedestrian zone which made it slightly difficult to liaise with an Uber cab when I left. Free wifi, tv with Netflix etc (if you have your own account). Room was clean if slightly spartan – no pictures on walls.
There was no hot water in my room, and I overheard another guest complaining to the receptionist about the same issue. When I reported this as I checked out, the receptionist seemed unsurprised and didn't apologise. The hotel seemed to be undergoing a partial renovation.

That the hotel overbooked and then told us they were closed!

Everything. Horrible not safe facility. Stinks of smoke, mould everywhere. Extreme level of anti sanitary. I arrived 1 am and this was the only reason for my stay. I am regular Booking and Aibnb user and I have never experienced anything like that before. Seriously think twice before booking that place. On my return to the reception, the guy at front desk explained to me that " when you buy burger in McDonald's, it's doesn't look like on picture either " and that "all photos placed on Booking website are generic" Well, now I know. Never again. Thank you.

Comfortable large clean room, quiet room without a window. Quiet room location . Very good sleep.
First room I was given had thing walls. I could hear word for word the guests next door. Asked to move and was moved to a quieter room.

Room was clean, very modern and comfortable, without a window.
Unfortunately there is no monitoring by management of noise disturbance. Girls next door banging against the wall behind my bed, shouting and talking loud the entire night, No phone in room to call reception.

The staff were absolutely amazing considering the conditions of the hotel and the amount of complaints they were getting...they could not have been anymore apologetic and helpful....we had six rooms booked and each of us had to move several times before finding rooms that was bearable but again the staff were amazing...could not fault them in anyway
The decor was extremely old and not clean...mildew on the walls.. sheets had holes in them...the bathroom were disgusting... television fell apart as we tried to turn it on... curtains hanging off the windows that were old and drafty...if we could have got a refund and somewhere else to stay we would have...

The rest is satisfactory for a budget hotel in the heart of the City of Birmingham.
In this day & age, a guest expects free wifi during his/her stay regardless of whether it is a Star or budget hotel but surprisingly, at The Britannia Hotel in Birmingham, the guest is only allowed 20mins of free wifi per day, thereafter, pay-as-you-use. It should be free. This is the 5th hotel I've stayed in Birmingham last year & the first without free wifi.

Location is smack in the middle of Birmingham. Right outside the Hotel there was the German Christmas Market with souvenirs and food stalls, it is also close to the Biggest Prime Mark, H&M and Bullring Shopping Mall.
Tap water has two nozels coming out of the same tap, one with hot water and one with cold water. These do not mix the water well and the hot water cannot be controlled, so you get scolded to wash your hands. The alternative was to fill up the basin and control the water temp there.

The location was extremely handy for my emergency which was a need of a clean bed late at night arriving into Birmingham New Street. I'm just glad the sheets and towels were clean! I was glad to check out...
This hotel is very aged, it's in desperate need of a complete renovation inside and out. The photos on here really do not reflect the reality of the property. The night staff were unfriendly and made me feel like I'd caused them an inconvenience by checking in late! The room carpet and bathroom floor were sticky and there was no hot water early in the morning.

Location is absolutely fine, staff friendly and helpful.
Hotel is fine although could do with modernising and looking tired.

Nothing
Dirty place in every area, unhelpful and rude staff. This is one of the worst hotels I have had the misfortune to stay in. Never again.

Central location, comfortable room, easy to reach from the rail station by foot, old hotel charm and quirkyness, clean and functional rooms and quiet allocated on request.
All the times I have stayed at this hotel only on this occasion did I realize that my passport was taken to the back room to be photocopied. I was never aware of this being done before. It's my property so as a hotel professionalism customers should be verbally made aware of this procedure and an explanation given as to why a photocopy of UK citizens passport or other ID is required. This is unusual for a UK hotel for most UK Citizens. Even in Europe my passport isn't photocopied so I think it is standard procedure that the hotel needs to have a written policy and all staff willing and able to explain to any customer who asks without being told to contact the manager. No food available in the hotel in the evening and I didn't want to leave the hotel at night to eat.

Service was slow when check in, no staffs ready for service , asked for VAT receipt 3 times by phone , don't have a change to ask when check out because no staff at that time

Handy for the train station
Nothing at all

The breakfast was ok but still expensive for what there was
the room had only one mug in and when we asked for one we were sent to find one upstairs but none found so we just shared the one. Also there was only one bath towel in the room but we just made do.

Great Central location. Good value if you can forgive older hotel and no wifi
No WiFi in room.. Optional charge to have it seems mean. Hotel very old fashioned.. Funny smell like sour disinfectant throughout hotel

Hotel located 3 mins from New Street Station so perfect for flights from Birmingham International airport.
*Bathroom was very old so inevitably dirty.
*Food waste in the corridor.
*Room was dusty.
*Carpet designed to hide obvious dirt.
*Dirty cutlery.
*Main lift out of order upon arrival so needed to access service lift, thus experiencing "back of house" in all it's dilapidated glory.
Far be it for me to stay, but hotel requires a much needed £10 to £20 million upgrade. Feel sorry for staff who have to work in the environment. I was only there for one night, thank goodness.

Horrible dirty place no heating staff not helpful at all
7.5 / 10.0
The staff were friendly and the beds were comfortable
The shower, The plug hole was blocked so the water from the shower wasn't draining.
The room could of done with a lick of paint as there was mucky marks all over the walls.
