This home was a perfect place for our Ladies Weekend and we enjoyed it very much. Very well appointed and decorated. Loved the wrap around porch and we used it every day! Dexter has a fascinating history and is very friendly. Drew's Chocolates is an absolute must!! We would return in a heartbeat.

This town is about half way between Kansas and Wisconsin. We got together with my husbands family from Kansas, for a little time together before school started. Every nice home for the 12 of us!! Table was large enough for all of us to play family games! We also enjoyed sitting on the front porch drinking coffee in the morning.

We really enjoyed our stay. It is a beautiful vintage home and very affordable. Instructions were easy to understand and I hope we followed them correctly. We only wish we had had more time to spend enjoying this property.

The occasion for our visit was one of our son’s wedding. My husband and I arrived ahead of everyone else, prepped the rehearsal dinner on the charcoal grill and in the kitchen. Family and guests starting arriving on Friday.
The house was everything we needed; from the kitchen to the sleeping arrangements, adults to toddler to preschool. The owner was very welcoming, helpful and prompt to text questions. The house was clean, well stocked with bed linens, and very nicely decorated. Thank you for sharing your house with us!

This is a beautiful old house that was so fun to stay in. It is extremely clean and the antiques are beautiful. Great location to see all the bridges. Darlene is a great host who is very good/fast with responding

The home is beautiful and full of character! We loved everything about it. The best part was we arrived after dark and the host had the porch light and a couple lights on inside for us! Made us feel welcomed and at home. The home fit all of our needs right down to a playpen, high chair, and stroller for the 1 year old. It was nice not to have to load those around. My husband and I had 4 teens, 2 under 10, and a 1 year old and the house was the perfect size. The host was amazing and easy to talk to and made sure all our needs were met. This home has been added to our list of places to stay again, hopefully with better weather so we can enjoy the porch and yard!

The home was clean and the owner provided plenty of necessities, such as paper towels, towels and toilet paper. Very good communicator and replied to messages fast. Highly recommend! Only improvement would be to oil the front door (its very squeaky, normal for an older home). We great appreciated this Victorian home!

I stayed with 4 of my high school friends for 5 days and had a great time. The house is huge and lots of areas for sitting around and catching up. The house was immaculate and had everything you would need to feel at home. The kitchen was extremely well stocked as were the bathrooms (loved the towels). We were there when it was in the 90s with humidity about 80% and the air conditioning was a life saver. We enjoyed our time there, the host was great and we would recommend and definitely stay there again.

The house was spacious and well equipped. There were plenty of paces to hang out and have conversations with family. There is a nice park nearby and plenty of country scenery. The kids enjoyed walking to the local convince store and seeing cows in a nearby field. The neighbor to the left brought us fresh garden vegetables. We will definitely go back.

The house is extremely spacious! The front porch on the warm Iowa nights was very relaxing (plus the fireflies!!). The home retains much of the original charm as when it was first build. Love “old” homes like this property! Darlene was a fantastic and attentive host, checking in by text to make sure we got checked in and settled in.

This is a beautiful home that has been decorated with care! We really enjoyed exploring all the antique furniture, paintings and decor! The yard is stunning and the kids had a great time playing outside and catching fireflies! Every thing you need is there (blankets, towels, rags, kitchen water etc)
E also enjoyed the park that is in walking distance and exploring the small town! We even saw the Bonnie & Clyde shoot out site! I didn’t even know it was there!
The property owner was fabulous and Kelly great communication!

Small, quiet town, close to tourist sites and Drew's Chocolates, right in town, was fabulous. If you love Victorian, you'll love this house.

We had a wonderful time and created cherished memories in this sweet, charming vintage home.
The house was very cozy, the owner very accomodating, the period pieces of furniture enhanced each room in this gem of a vintage home. Very tidy and clean and the beds were so comfortable. Beautiful fenced in yard too! Highly recommend it for a family reunion weekend or ladies getaway! Hope to come back !

It was a really nice house to gather with a group of friends to game all weekend. The kitchen was nice, a few dishes weren't the cleanest, but that's been on par for most rentals with dishes. The floor boards were pretty squeaky, but that's to be expected with an older house. We love the Victorian style of home, so it was nice to be able to stay in one for the weekend!

Darlene was a great host answering all of our questions and very responsive,
Things we liked:
Front porch swing
Gathering on the porch
The coffee maker (love Bunn)
Beds were comfortable enough
Things we did not like:
The washer was unusable. We had to wash our clothes elsewhere as there was no way we could use it.
One shower for 8 people is not sustainable. The upstairs bath has a tub but no shower and not many are inclined to bathe on vacation when they can’t wash their hair.
Not as clean as it should be. The dishes and silverware we washed before we used as they just were not clean.
Bathroom downstairs needs a thorough cleaning!!
Central air had to run at 66 downstairs to try to make the upstairs remotely tolerable. That is to say we had to freeze downstairs so family upstairs could TRY to sleep comfortably which made it uncomfortable
I grew up in an old house. I understand they are not perfect, but clean is clean. The dishwasher left “film” on all of the dishes - maybe it was the water?
And the bathroom did NOT feel like it was clean, with dust in a lot of places. Like whoever was cleaning it just didn’t care that much.
I wanted to give this place a better review but I also feel the need to be honest for those who are looking to stay just as I depend on others when I am doing the same.
It is an old home being restored and the woodwork is gorgeous. Perhaps it just wasn’t a good fit for us.

Great place to gather and relax
I stayed here with my sister on our way back east. The house was easy to access from I-80 and spacious enough to accommodate two families. We loved the big front porch and watching fireflies in the backyard. Great location and great house with lots of character.

Retreat Repeat
This was our third stay at your lovely Victorian for our annual Sister Retreat. We spent most of our week long stay cooking, playing games, and simply relaxing. We had a large Thanksgiving dinner with family. Everyone enjoyed themselves and loved your home. Thank you!

Comfortable, beautiful step back in time
Our group of 5 ladies loved staying in this home. It was beautiful, comfortable & fully stocked. There is so much character and detail on this lovely property. It was close to our covered bridges tour but in a quiet neighborhood. Darlene was a wonderful host, she checked in on us and answered our questions promptly.

Women's retreat
Five women on their way to a P.E.O. convention in Des Moines, took a 4-day hiatus here before heading to convention. The house was beautiful and well-appointed and perfect for the 5 of us. The owner checked in with us several times and was ready to help if we had any issues...which we didn't! Loved the big beds and the comfortable seating...and the big kitchen. AC worked well as did all the appliances. Neighbor was friendly...even brought us fresh vegetables from his garden. Would highly recommend to any one wishing a quiet get-away and easy access to John Wayne Museum, covered bridges, and the city of Des Moines. Would love to go back!

Great Family Get-Away
The best way to describe our Grandchildren had a great time. One even cancelled his invitation to a friends Birthday on his own, without being made to, to stay with us. Great refreshing time!

I love this house.
I always judge a house by it's front porch, and I was not disappointed. From all the wood details and fixtures to the beautiful backyard. My grandson would have slept on the porch given a choice. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

small town stay with big time feel
We loved our stay in this beautiful home. The accommodations were so comfortable. There was plenty of space for our group of 12. Darlene was very good about providing plenty of specific information to help make our stay even more comfortable. We were in town for a family wedding. Beds were comfy. This was so much better than a hotel!

Short but Sweet
Although just a short stay, we had a great time as family members joined us for food and fun. The house was admired and loved by all. Would have loved to sit on the porch but too cold. Maybe next time! Thank you for making your home available.

Beautiful Victorian; lots of character
Quiet town, comfortable home with lots of character. The woodwork was beautiful. Plenty of room to relax and enjoy family time. The wrap around porch was a great place to sit and watch the leaves swirl to the ground to be raked in a pile for jumping into with the kids. The porch was also great for Halloween decorations and Trick or Treaters.

Lovely home! Authentic Victorian feel.
We had a large family reunion, some of whom lived in the area so not everyone stayed at the house. Those who did found comfortable beds and lots of room to visit.
The only problem we had was dealing with no TV service. For the purpose of our visit, I considered that a minor irritant.
