Incredible view, beautiful house and scenery. Great pool. There is Filtered water. Very remote- it takes roughly one hour to drive from house to quepos marina or Manuel Antonio. The road up the mountain is an adventure- about 20 minutes one way. Very steep. No AC- it cools to about 70F plus or minus a few degrees at night with fans. Nice owner and staff.

It was a great house in a very private location. The views are unbelievable!

The view from the house is even more beautiful in person. The check-in process was great. There are tons of fruit trees all over the property. We saw lots of wildlife and very much enjoyed the pool. For sure need a 4x4 for the trek up the mountain. It was not too bad as long as it wasn’t muddy (but still not too bad). I definitely recommend this house and would stay here again.

Most definitely rent a 4x4. Takes a couple of days to get use to the drive up but the view is worth it! Lots of tours close by, which I loved! Surfing, rafting and zip lining are a must!

The view was fantastic and the open areas allowed family to gather or separate into their rooms. Recommendation to get a high clearance 4x4 especially in rainy sesson august due to road up to the house. Close to the beach, Uvita Whale Tale and such. The house is located in the forest area so expect critters to visit and frogs at night.

We had a wonderful time!
Our family spent 4 weeks at this wonderful house. The view is amazing. The jungle is wonderful. The beach is wonderful. The people are wonderful. It is very secluded. A person certainly needs four wheel drive to stay here, but it is worth it. A person is 15 minutes from the beach at Playa Matapalo (good for wading, walking, and fishing, not for surfing or swimming). There is also a wonderful ice cream shop about 15 minutes away. Dominical is only about 20-25 minutes away with fun shops and great fishing and surfing (also has organic/gf foods if a person has special dietary needs). Quepos is only about 45 minutes away and is a larger city if people have more needs. A million things to do in the area. Some cost money, some do not. The property owner and the property manager are very attentive to people’s requests and concerns. Any questions about the property, safety, culture or anything a person may not understand, they are more than willing to help with. The cultural climate of Costa Rica is relaxed (NOT lazy). The term “Pura Vida” certainly applies to this house as well as this country. We would absolutely stay again!!!!

Cannot beat the beautiful view of the jungle and ocean. It's amazing. Lots of things to see when driving to and from the property. The property itself is self sufficient which is cool, and is open to all the jungle has to offer.

We were really disappointed with this property. It seemed tired. There is an obvious lack of pride in the upkeep. The dishes were dirty, cabinets had a great deal of cockroach poop and spider webs, and for this price range- one would not expect to have to confirm that there is a microwave, toaster, and coffee maker on the site. Additionally, hand towels and washcloths were no where to be found. The bath towels were of discount store quality. There is no place to relax as a family, except at the dining room table- which the online description calls a “great room.” There are no sofas, no lounge chairs, and no place to sit after dark except in the completely open air dining / kitchen area. The view is spectacular and the breezes are wonderful. But the lack of pride in the property and consideration of how people would relax as a group in our opinion makes this property take a hit.It would not take a lot to increase the quality. Invest in some decent cookware, throw out the rusted kitchen utensils. Provide an outdoor sofa and sitting chairs, check that al the light bulbs that works, repair ripped screen doors, and install a screen to lower in the evening so that you can spend time outdoors with a light on. We couldn’t even play a game as a family as the bugs were so intense, they literally went in our mouths when we talked and up our nostrils when we breathed. Bakeware is non-existent, and that would be a smart addition. At the very least one cookie sheet? Our recommendations are basic. It does not take a lot of effort, just some basic attention to detail. This is our first negative experience in 15 years of vacationing in Costa Rica. We love the area, but we give this vacation home one star. The property manager was efficient and gave us a warm welcome.

We had a lovely stay up in the mountains. The view is breathtaking, the pictures don’t do it justice. When you’re up above the clouds your problems will melt away. We were sad to leave, but excited to come back. The host was very accommodating to our needs, and helped us have the best stay possible.

The owner's instructions were very clear that we would need 4-wheel drive to access the house. We rented a smaller size SUV in San Jose and drove up. Coming up the steep dirt road we drove up but missed the sign for the key pick-up place midway up the hill. The vehicle was underpowered and the clearance was really too low for the road. The only way we made it the last 3/4 mile was by everyone but the driver getting our and walking, while she had to gun it to get up. I was afraid we were going to damage the undercarriage over the rocky stretch. Once there, we had to turn around and go back down in order to get the keys. We left the car parked at the hostestess' house and she used her big SUV to shuttle us and our luggage up to the house. The house was lovely, the view from the patio was epic, you can see all the way to ocean with lush jungle all around. Since it is in the mountains it was much cooler and more pleasant than the hot, humic coast. We saw many birds including toucans and hummingbirds and heard even more. The rooms were fine. The pool was unheated and little cold for me but I think it would be fine for most younger people. We worked out an arrangement to pay our hostess to shuttle us up and down the mountain twice a day since our SUV wouldn't do it. It wasn't terribly convenient but she was gracious enough to do it for us, and returning our SUV to get a more powerful one wasn't an option. We would have had to drive 4 hours back to San Jose and pay an extra 3000$ to rent a bigger SUV. Then midway through our stay, her SUV broke down part way up the hill. We had to do another jungle hike in the dark up a steep grade to get back to the house. We were stranded up there for all of the next day and a half. At that point we decided we needed to bail on the house. It was just to isolated and we were out of food! We flagged down a neighbor who was coming down the hill and paid him to ferry us back to our little SUV. It was a real relief! If he hadn't come along it would have been an expensive taxi ride back down the hill. We ended up finding another hotel down on the coast. The owner and the hostess both went out of their way to give us advice and to try and help us. We all tried hard but it just didn't work out. In summary the place is nice if you want peace and quiet, space for a big group, and terrific views. The kitchen was great for cooking with a group. The wrap-around balconies let everyone gather together or find some privacy.

My husband and I rented this property for a getaway. We were a group of 5 adults. We enjoyed our stay very much. The view from the property was amazing and we loved being surrounded by nature! We did have to wait quite a while to pick up the keys, as the person who was supposed to give us the keys kept us waiting on the road. The house and cabin were very clean and the beds comfortable. The refrigerator of the house was not working well, so we had to use the small refrigerator from the cabin. This was a bit inconvenient. Overall, the wonderful location "away from it all", the clean house, and gorgeous views made up for the minor issues. As long as you have a 4x4 and an adventurous driver, you will be fine on the road. We would definitely recommend this property.

Breathe in the natural setting of Costa Rica
This was our first visit to Costa Rica and was a combination of family reunion and exploration. Our host was so very helpful in giving suggestions and advising us accordingly. Our mountain retreat gave us the flavor of the costa rica natural habitat with its breathtaking view from the infinity pool (which we used alot) and the rising and falling sounds of the jungle. The road up to the property definately requires a four wheel drive vehicle which our host was very clear about. It was lovely to go to the beach etc and come back to the natural environment that was cooler than down by the ocean.

Jungle villa overlooking the Pacific
The photos do not do the vista justice-an open air panorama of mountains, jungle, and the Pacific from an elevation of 1500 feet. A spectacular view from an infinity pool awaits you every day. This place is all solar, off the grid. It takes 20-25 minutes to drive there off the main road. Four wheel drive is an absolute necessity. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted dogs, cats, and chickens. The place is modern and well laid out. You cannot see or hear neighbors except for an occasional person driving by. We stayed for two weeks and missed the solitude the day we left. The owner was not there during our stay. So, except for occasional visits by the caretakers, we were alone. It was a great experience.

3 Miles to Paradise
Spectacular view await. Once you turn off the coastal highway, it is a three mile climb up the ridge to a little piece of paradise. Zoltan and the goats meet you at the retreat surrounded by the fruit trees he has planted. The picture of the property on the website shows the infinity pool and the view of the ocean in the large indoor/outdoor space which is the "living room" for the property. We stayed in the "cabina", a charming and rustic structure immediately adjoining the main house. The breezes thru the shutters cooled us as at night as we listened to the birds and the howler monkeys. Zoltan cooked us a fish dinner one night, delicious!
We enjoyed day trips to the Manuel Antonio Park (not to be missed!), and wonderful black sand beach.
Highly recommended for a relaxing stay surrounded by nature.

On top of the world view and experience
Staying at this property was definitely a highlight of our trip. It's off the bean path and it's not 5 star because it's fancy and "perfect", it is 5 star because it's a wonderful unique experience with amazing views and lovely hosts. We are a family of 4 from Oregon. The drive up definitely required 4 wheel drive and I was white knuckled a bit just knowing we needed our rental car to get us through the whole trip. It really was fine but I wouldn't do it at night and can imagine it would be tricky in wet weather. Once there we were greeted by the dogs which I LOVED. Super sweet outdoor dogs that keep an eye on things. The view is outstanding. I felt like I was on top of the world and the pool was a great place to be in while experiencing the views. The property is impressive .. over 300 fruit trees, peppercorns, coffee plants, turkeys, chickens etc. While not everything is producing fruit yet, just seeing all the varieties was so cool. The owners live on site and are super low key and enjoyable to talk to. Zolton took our family of 4 out on an afternoon visit to a swiming hole that everyone loved. Breakfast 'included' for us was fresh farm eggs that we cooked ourselves in our kitchen and they offered fresh fruit and bread. Zolton also got some 'kids'cereal which was thoughtful since it's good for us ALL to be happy on vacation! The property is on solar so a couple nights we ran out of power in the evening. They offered the generator but we figured it was part of the experience, so flashlights and candles did the trick until the morning when the sun came out and it went back on. Just keep your phone charged in case you like that sense of security. (Also you can hear the neighboring hotel just enough to NOT be a nuisance but to know you aren't alone in the middle of the jungle). One of the things I love most is the open air kitchen and dining area where the pool it. You can also leave the cabana doors open if you want open air, and the cabana kitchen is open air. Also the cabana and adjacent bath is made of super cool wood. I loved it and told my daughter it felt like living inside a tree (in a good way). All in all don't expect perfection but expect an off the beaten path experience with great hosts, amazing views, and some quiet time. I would definitely go back and loved our visit. While I don't want to oversell it I did love it so thank you Zolton & Gwendy!

Good vacation stay for those looking to get away from the crowds.
The pictures do the views justice. Amazing sunrises starting at 5:30am and overall stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean, mountains etc. Pay close attention to the suggestion about needing a good 4X4 as the road up to the house is NOT for the weak of heart. Would definitely recommend only renting a PREMIUM 4X4 to be sure. Overall the place is very secluded when on the property so gives a good feel for Costa Rican biodiversity and nature.....cicadas, frogs, monkeys all around!
Sleeping arrangements are good and separate from the shared main area. Dedicated kitchen area for guests is apart from shared areas and clean but a little underequipped. We did not take advantage of private tours or personal services but enjoyed the areas close to Savegre very much. Dominical beach was good for intermediate surfing and only 35 minutes away. Coastal highway is amazing ride down to Osa Peninsula with amazing views all around.
Overall, our family of 5 enjoyed our experience.

Secluded jungle getaway with incredible views
Our stay at this property was great. The view from the pool area is breathtaking and provides gorgeous sunrises. It was very cool to see the various gardens, chickens, goats, etc. on the property. The drive up the hill is a bit further and rockier than expected but for a few days it wasn't that bad. We would leave for the day and just make sure to have everything needed before returning for the evening. This is very much a jungle retreat with open air kitchen. There are many bugs considering it is in the middle of the jungle but they were actually less than I expected.
Zoltan provided some interesting conversation and recommendations for areas to go see. He cooked a delicious dinner for us one night using some ingredients that were growing among his gardens.

The views from the property are fantastic
The views are amazing.. The property has everything you would need. However the drive to the property does require a 4x4 and is best driven in day light

Beautiful stay on top of the world!
We had a wonderful stay at Zoltan's mountain-top retreat. The vista was absolutely gorgeous and Zoltan was very friendly, giving us some fruits from the property to try and showing us some local places to go. Loved the dogs and other friendly animals on the property too! Driving up the mountain is not for the faint of heart; rent the best SUV you can and you should be fine. Keep in mind the property is solar-powered so the water can be a bit cold at times, but the hot weather more than makes up for this! If you don't mind the 20 minute drive up and down the mountain, there's tons of hikes and beautiful beaches nearby, which we took advantage of each day for the 2 weeks we were there. Would definitely recommend staying here!
4.7
Beautiful view, wonderful accommodations
Great place, if a little off the beaten path (believe the description that says you need a full-time 4x4 to get there). The view is unparalleled, with the pool right out front and the garden just beyond the pool. 2 kitchens, bbq grill and multiple baths make it a place you don't even want to leave some days. Definitely an adventure this family won't soon forget!
4.7
Perfect Paradise
We loved our stay at the Sunrise/Sunset Guesthouse. The initial drive up the mountain was definitely a challenge and I did almost cry the first time up when the car (with four wheel drive) started sliding back down the rocky unpaved road at one point but it gets easier and easier to the point where we just came to relish the transition period from down below on the coast to up on the ridge. The views are spectacular as are all the sounds of life chirping and buzzing and croaking and calling. Having the pool was the best as it meant there was really no need to ever leave. We had two kids with us, both who can swim so the unfenced pool was not an issue. The girls just loved all the animals: the dogs, the goats, the chickens- they even got to do the rounds and collect the eggs, which they found thrilling. We came home after 5 days totally refreshed and recharged and at peace and we will definitely be back!

Great place , breath taking view!
What are great place , views are breath taking, sunrises are beyond spectacular, we enjoyed our stay , very clean well kept. The drive up is adventurous , but worth it at top of the mountain. My son enjoyed the pool.

Amazing
It was absolutely wonderful vacation. The pictures on the website could not fully reflect the true beauty of the place. In reality, it looked like paradise from above. The view of the sky and mountains were unrealistically amazing. We watched wildlife appearing each morning with the sunrise.
It was very quite and private place of the solitude. The view from the terrace - breathtaking! Gigantic pool with pure blue water filled our vacation with complete joy, and it was unforgettable.
The rooms were very clean with the quine beds and comfortable mattresses. Kitchen had a lot of utensils, and dishes/ pots were in good condition.
The hosts, Zoltan and Wendy, were friendly to us, caring, and always ready to help. WI-FI was working without any problems.
Some suggestion to tourists who decide to chose the place is that when you rent a car, make sure that the tires are good for mountain roads, otherwise, it can be a challenge.
Also, the address for the house cannot be detected by GPS, so you should follow carefully a thourogh instruction provided by the owner.
We had troubles finding the right road, but thanks to Zoltan, as he kindly met us down the road and together we wheeled up to the house.
In addition, Zoltan and Gwendy very frequently offered us fresh fruits and vegetables picked out of their garden, and they were delicious!
We also accepted some trips from the host. Zoltan was able to show us beautiful waterfall, rivers, and beaches where we together enjoyed the miraculous sunset full of colors and mystery.
My friend and I had restful and unforgettable time there, and we definitely would like to recommend this place to others and, certainly, we would like to return to this paradise again.

breathtaking views
We loved our time at this home. Gwendy and Zoltan ( and Christian) were wonderful people and made our stay extra special! The directions to the house were fabulous, but we were glad that Zoltan helped us with our first trip up the mountain. A 4 wheel drive is a must, and also GPS.
We were the first to use the new kitchen and cabin, and although there were a few glitches with the stove and water, all was repaired and we enjoyed using this area. The cabin is a nice big area with it's own deck that makes you feel like you are sleeping in a tree house.

Can't wait to go back again
We are family of four, travel a lot and honestly it was the best place we stayed. Just everything from communication before the trip to welcome feel during our stay. We didn't feel someone else is on the property until we had any needs.
We stayed 5 nights in April. You'll definitely need 4x4 as everyone suggested. This place has a personal feeling. It is not very close to touristic places but not that far.
We liked seafood restaurant nearby what Zoltan recommended us - went there twice. Saw toucans and other different birds just from the terrace. Enjoyed fresh fruits from the garden every morning.
Highly recommend for those looking for a relaxing place close to nature.

Incredible Vacation Retreat
I cannot say enough times how incredible this place was. We did some travelling within Costa Rica for a 10 day trip in December and stayed here for 4 nights of our trip. We were originally concerned we were staying in one place too long but could have stayed here the entire time. First, Zoltan is a great host, he is friendly, welcoming, and provided us with some great recommendations. We explored the area in all directions from the house, and I'm sure there was still more to explore. There are some incredibly quiet and serene beaches nearby, great hiking spots and waterfalls, as well as local towns and Manuel Antonio National Park.
Just like the other reviews, you should really have a 4x4 rental car to get up the hill to the house (we found this was just good to have in CR in general) and make sure you do the first drive in daylight, but after the first drive up we didn't have any issues. It does take some time getting up the hill (15 -30 minutes) but the drive is beautiful and definitely worth it.
The house itself is beautiful, with the main parts open to the air and the pool. The kitchen/dining and pool area is shared with Zoltan. The guest quarters are on one side of the house, with two bedrooms and bathrooms that are very private. They both have incredible views of the ocean and the surrounding mountains.
We highly highly recommend staying here, and hope we will be heading back soon ourselves, this is truly one of the greatest homeaways we have ever booked!

Quiet Respite from the Busy Beach
My family of five (three kids-12-10- and 6) rented this place after Christmas for five nights. In advance of our stay, working with Lenore was a dream. She had given me lots of information and was so easy to work with. They are not kidding when they say you need an AWD vehicle. The drive up and down took about 20 minutes each way and you had to drive through a creek and over some rocks. It was worth it when you got up there, though. The beaches can be crowded and filled with people but coming home to relax in the pool at the end of the day is lovely. Please do note that you have to make sure you have everything you need for the day in the car when you leave. Going back up and down the mountain is not easy and was a bit hard on our car. One thing, we were sad that you could not get a good sunset over the ocean from the property but the views of the sunrise were spectacular and the perfect way to start the day with your coffee or tea. You can just head to the beach to see the sunset there on your way back up to the house at the end of the day. As for our lovely hosts, Zoltan and Wendy, I cannot say enough about their kindness and willingness to help you in any way. They are so kind and go out of their way to make sure they are not obtrusive on your stay but available if you need them for anything. The property itself is probably the best-maintained property I've ever stayed in using VRBO/HomeAway. The beds are very comfortable and linens are good quality. Zoltan is very proud of his residence and the work he has put into it to maintain sustainability. Overall, I would say this was a terrific value. At first, we thought we might be a bit too far away from the beach for our liking but we very quickly realized this was the best possible place to be to relax and unwind in the quiet.

Unforgettable
Beautiful and truly unique home with owners who have put in a lot of care in creating an amazing setting to provide an unforgettable experience. Felt at the top of the world. Have definitely recommended to others.

Beautiful property
This place is beautifully perched on a mountain with awesome views and only a 10-15 minute drive to Domincal and the beach. The property is home to a large garden area growing fruits and vegetables. Make sure you stop in Quepos on your way there to pick up groceries since the place has an open kitchen!
