About this house rental

Welcome to @haleromantik!
On the Big Island of Hawaii, we are located at sea level in the last fishing village of quiet, rural Milolii on an ancient lava flow, with lava coastline.

Located 33 miles south from Kailua-Kona, we are just a short 63 miles to Volcano National Park.

Approximately 1-1/2 hours drive south from the Kona International Airport. The road from the highway to my home has many switchbacks. It takes a while to meander down the hillside to get to my home.

We are equi-distant between many popular tourist sites located on the Kona Coast side of the Big Island, i.e. Kealakekua Bay, Place of Refuge, Kahalu'u Black Sands Beach Park, Honomalino Bay, Punalu'u Black Sands Beach Park, Volcano National Park, to name a few.

OCEANFRONT Hale Romantik' on the Big Island of Hawaii, South Kona Coast is located just 40 feet from the ocean. Feel the beauty, sound and excitement the Blue Pacific brings to you. When the high surf impacts the cliff below, causing and occasional surge, sending a fine spray all the way above the deck, it makes a shaking sensation to the house in a surprisingly pleasant manner.

You will not have to look for the whales. You will hear them! And then look! There are also Spinner Dolphins, Green Sea Turtles and occasionally Manta Rays all year long. The waters in this location are considered some of the best KAYAKING and fishing grounds in Hawaii. Snorkeling equipment and Kayaks are also available for your use, on the property.

This oceanfront home has open beam ceilings throughout the house, adding to the sense of space; great for air circulation and a true feeling of Polynesian design with the exotic beams and designer palm fans dramatically displayed above. Italian porcelain tile throughout; simply a pleasure for your stay.

The home has all amenities, including a 500 sq. ft. lanai. Large expanses of windows and sliding doors, connect the home to its ocean views, allowing you to view the ocean from nearly every room, even from each bedroom. Every night you will watch the sun set below the horizon.

This oceanfront home is simply immaculate and fully equipped. Has all what you need including a George Foreman Electric Grill. We cater to the particular!

The home has two deluxe bedrooms with open ceilings for airflow but also sound will carry from room to room. Two separate ensuite deluxe bathrooms with double vanities, with extra large porcelain sinks, and two separate walk-in tile and glass block showers is another highlight. No air conditioning, just the tradewinds to keep you cool!

Milolii is known throughout the islands for its deep sea fishing, and clear waters. The 'last fishing village' in Hawaii is just a 10 minute drive within the Milolii Beach Lots subdivision, where an approx. 15 min. hiking trail leading to a coconut tree lined black sand beach (Honomalino), offers fantastic snorkeling.

The village has a County boat ramp and camp grounds, and offers easy access for kayaking and deep sea fishing.

Milolii offers some of the most underdeveloped stretches of coastline on the Big Island, with secret beaches to explore. It's also a neighborhood with homes nearby.

Seasonal whale watching and Spinner Dolphins. Humpback Whales visit the Hawaiian waters annually from November through May. These endangered mammals enjoy the state's warm waters in the winter to breed, give birth and nurse their young.

Spectacular sunsets can be viewed directly from the oceanfront house. Have your camera ready! Milolii......'where the sun meets the sea', and everyone says hello!

Hale's Romantique was just as advertised. It's remote location removes you from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas and puts you more in touch with Hawaiian nature. Even though the drive to the property is a little longer than most, it is centrally located to get you to most of the areas of the island you will want to visit. Just be aware that anywhere you go on the island does require driving due to the size of the island. The lanai was big and inviting and the interior of the home was very updated and immaculate. The bathrooms were extremely clean, as well was the kitchen which was fully furnished with anything that you might need. There were a lot of special touches to make your feel at home. One thing to remember, be sure to bring mosquito spray. At least if you are staying during the summer months. Overall, our stay couldn't have been any better. Thanks Kirsten for being a wonderful host!

Delighted with our stay! Just as beautiful as shown in the photo, this home has every comfort required for a family to enjoy restful sleep, quiet mornings and evenings. We loved rising early to stargaze and the fact that it’s directly on lava flow right on the ocean was a naturalist’s thrill! We had a great time exploring the cliffs and crannies at the end of the road as well. We appreciated being informed about the switchbacks traversed between the main road and the property which might feel harrowing to some, but the plants, animals and ocean views along the way are incompatible! We’d advise visitors on a tighter budget (like us) to read through what’s included at the home carefully to avoid bringing anything unnecessary since airlines are charging extra for luggage these days and to stop at a grocery store (there’s both a Walmart and a Costco near KOA and numerous smaller local markets) to pick up gallons of drinking water, sunscreen, and food for meals and picnics you plan to make, and to keep an eye out for fruit stands as you make your way to the property instead of heading back out for these things later since it is pretty remote. If shopping, bustling tourist areas with lots of excitement and nightlife are your thing, this would definitely not be right for you; however, if you want to enjoy the quiet beauty of a natural setting within a decent drive to other locations filled with geological and biological wonders, this will be the perfect place to stay.

The property is beautiful, clean, and the doors were unlocked when we arrived so check-in was easy. Stop there. DO NOT USE THIS PROPERTY. The water was contaminated and caused EVERYONE in the group to be sick. We lasted three days out of the 10 we had booked entirely due to the water. It smelled rancid. Even the Previously made ice Caused the entire refrigerator to smell rancid. We contacted the owner and she asked us to un book through Vrbo so that she could re-rent the place. Even though she responded quickly, she did not hear me that her water caused everyone to get sick. The road coming down the mountain into Miloli’i Was completely understated. It contained no Less than 75 turns and four major hairpin turns going straight down the hill towards the ocean. It alone caused Major Anxiety anytime we came or left. The rental is 1.5 hours from Kona, even though only 37 miles. Beware. VRBO will not refund due to unsanitary/unhealthy conditions. The host said she would only refund if she could find another renter This is very sad considering how sick people were. Seems like making money trumps common sense.

This property was perfect for our stay. It was clean, had all necessities we needed plus some helpful extras including books and fans. The neighbors are quiet, it had plenty of room inside for 2 couples as well as a fantastic lanai to relax and enjoy the incredible view. We knew from the photos that it had an ocean front view with volcanic cliffs but pictures will never do it justice. It is absolutely breathtaking and perfect for those wanting to experience the uniqueness of Hawaii apart from the more traditional beaches. There is quite a drive to and from any restaurants, tours, etc. but even the drive itself is wonderful and worth it. This was our first visit to Hawaii and we are already planning to go back!

Absolutely loved the house, the ocean views, the ocean sounds and the nightly variety of sunsets. The house was well equipped of anything you might need besides food and libation. The nightly sounds and whispering winds allowed for fast send offs to dream land. The road from the main road to the house was a challenge but the reward was the final destination. Thanks for allowing us to stay and we’ll always remember our time at “Romantik”

My husband and I were looking for a relaxing place to stay after spending 5 days in Volcanos National Park, and this was the absolutely perfect spot! The location on the lava bluff was outstanding, as it was so relaxing and peaceful to sit on the lanai and look at the water and fish/dophins swimming by. The house facing west allowed us to enjoy beautiful sunsets every night. With the exception of a few day trips, we wanted to primarily relax and have all our meals at the house. This was easy to do, because the kitchen was extremely well equipped! The bathrooms were wonderfully appointed with all amenities. The bedrooms were spacious, and beds were comfortable. There were lots of good outlets for normal plug in and USB. Kirsten really seemed to have thought of everything to make the stay at Hale Romantik absolutely fantastic and so relaxing. We are already talking about when to come back during the winter to watch the whale migrating.

Fabulous ocean front home with sweeping views of the water. Everything was great and the fridge even has a working ice maker. Special treat there if you like ice in your drinks. We did find the moisture in the air from the ocean caused all the dirt on the floor to stick to the bottom of your feet or socks but that was quickly remedied by having flip flops or sandals available. Saw whales, dolphins and even a shark swim by. Great place in a relaxing location.
