Practical and fast check-in, excellent location, and bathrooms always clean.
Clean linens, but the room wasn't very clean; perhaps I shouldn't have looked under the bed.

staff always go out of their way to help you out, and we’re always friendly

Bon emplacement

The location and people I met there were very nice. However...
I've stayed in many backpacker hostels over the years, and I must say Canmore NEEDS to do better!, from the staff to the facilities, everything was subpar. I expected a lot more from a tourist hotspot like Canmore. Very disappointing.

Staff was communicative and responsive. The space was fairly clean, location was good.
The kitchen was a bit dirty, the wall’s thin so if people are talking in the common area or there’s event in the basement it could be loud till late. The room also didn’t have heater in the first few days, it was freezing one night in -12 c. But the staff fixed it so all was good.

Decent kitchen. I didn't see a wine bottle opener (but I also didn't ask). Thankfully there was never really 3 people cooking dinner since there wasn't enough space. Rooms and beds were comfy. The bathrooms smelled great with the air fresheners! Sometimes the hot water ran out late at night, but it was hot in the morning. Towels were comfy. Staff was good. I booked three nights since I had a rental car and when I showed up I was a little frustrated with where I could park my car (included, for free). After speaking with the manager they confirmed that there was a 24/7 lot (for about 6 cars, shared with a couple other establishments) and it was first come first serve. But there was a parking lot 1 minute walk away where you can park for free 8pm-8am. So I parked in that other lot 2 nights (which worked fine since I was there to hike and woke up early). My last night I was able to get a spot in the 24/7 lot. So overall I was satisfied. Downtown Canmore is also nice and I wish I had more time to explore. There's a large grocery store not far away (driving), but there's a decent grocery store just across the street from the hostel which is nice.
The parking situation was a little frustrating at first. I'm fairly certain on Booking.com it says "free parking" at the top (in an icon) and I don't recall seeing the "first come first serve" piece written on the site (perhaps I missed it). After I booked and paid, however, yes those details were listed in the confirmation email (but that wasn't apparently until after I put money down). Again, speaking with the manager made a lot more sense and they were very patient with confirming the parking situation.

Where it was located
Lack of parking, very basic room with futon bed, not even a night lamp, no hot water for the shower, kitchen wasn’t very clean or tidy.

Centre of town location is great. Cleanliness of room itself was fine.
Women's bathroom was not clean. No sanitary bins (?!) and one main communal bin not emptied which was overflowing with dirty nappies, used sanitary products and all sorts. "Local live music" was terrible. No staff there at all meaning no help and also had none of the communal friendly hostel atmosphere you'd usually find. Also security on main door was poor- we were able to just walk in before our booking as the keypad on the front door was not in use and therefore just open to anyone. Disappointing.

It was a clean facility and there was lots of room! Easy to get everything organized.
The sound of people in the general space and the bar below can bother others but it didn’t bother me.

Price: The best thing about this place is that it's cheap & affordable particularly if you are visiting Banff in Summer when lodging is crazy expensive. We got two bunk beds for ~600 USD for 6 nights stay and that's way cheaper than private hotel rooms in Banff. Since we went out every dawn to explore Banff and returned later in the evening to only sleep in the hostel - this was a great arrangement for us.
Location: It's in a prime central location in Canmore and there are many good restaurants just outside the door.
Parking: Reading earlier reviews we were mentally prepared to pay for parking if needed. Luckily we got FREE parking during our a week stay in Banff. Even though spots in the free parking lot behind the hostel is limited, we were always able to secure one. If it helps we always finished our day in the evening 6-8 PM. If you don't find free parking right behind the hostel there's canmore art center where parking is free after 8 PM and it's 2min away from the hostel.
Room: We booked bunk beds in a dorm. The roommates were nice & respectful. Contrary to earloer reviews, we found dedicated extension cord for each person in the room and had no issue with charging our devices. We didn't have any issue with the sound/ music from the bar. Some nights I didn't even hear the music starting. Anyway, using ear plugs and sleep masks were good enough for me.
Kitchen: Kitchen was well equipped with cookwares, essential spices. We prepared our breakfast every morning in the kitchen and had cooked a couple of meals in the kitchen during our stay. Even there was a cabinet with FREE food supplies if anyone needed.
Restrooms: Restrooms were as clean as hostel restrooms are. If you have stayed in ENOUGH hostels you know what I mean. So, I found them clean enough and even they had free shampoo, shower gel and conditioner in each shower booth if anyone needed.
We read lots of complaints that the check in code doesn't work which is true. We got the same room but each of us received different codes to enter the hotel & our room. None of them worked! We reached past midnight & it was raining heavily. There were some people downstairs who had opened the door for us. And one person in our room was kind enough to open the door for us as we were trying in vain with the wrong room entrance codes. Cheers to that roommate who considered opening the room door for us at around 1am at night! It's true that the room keypad makes sounds when someone enters a code (right/ wrong). We were fine with the sound though!
During our stay the restroom had run out of toilet paper one morning (male's toilet had none but one of the female's toilets had one roll). So, we had bought some clean wipes but didn't get to use them as they didn't run out after that.
I already said the kitchen was well equipped. Probably they could benefit from a dish rack to dry the dishes after washing and I don't know what happens to the kitchen towels - if guests take them with them/ the cleaning crew doesn't was & make them available until late!

Nothing?
Worst location to stay in canmore. We booked 8 beds for men , each was allocated in different rooms and no 4 were in female. We asked for refund only 50% was refunded. My worst experience ever

Nothing
Honestly the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The bathrooms weren’t cleaned properly, if cleaned at all. We didn't get hot water once in the showers. The common area was a mess, fridge and bins overflowing. The kitchen area was small and there is hardly no countertop space. It was difficult to fill our water bottles as the water in the kitchen sink was always lukewarm, never cold.
Our room was way too small to have six people in it, the sheets weren’t cleaned properly, there were holes in the walls and the AC did not work so we felt like we were in an oven every night. We had a terrible roommate (not the fault of the hostel) but we couldn’t find the manager to ask to move rooms. I’ve stayed in many hostels all over the world, and this is by far the worst.

Nothing.
Room was wide open when we checked-in and we couldn’t tell if someone has been using it before. There were no towels which I suspect someone took them.
“Security code” at the entrance door does not work. So 0 security.
Hostel was old and no clean at all. Bathrooms and kitchen was disgusting.
It gets loud because of the music downstairs. They let you know that before but it is worse than you can imagine.
Private rooms should be at the end of the corridor given and not right next to the common room/kitchen.
I was charged an incorrect amount on my credit card. They do not reply messages so good luck talking to management.
Run away from this place.

Good location. Fully equipped kitchen
No AC, unresponsive staff, over a dozen emails that were repetitive & irrelevant, unclean rooms & bathroom (didn’t feel very safe either as a female traveller in the co-ed 6 person room). Also booked last minute & was a horrible value for the money we paid.

Location was great, place was clean and comfortable.
My room was close to the common area and it can get there a little loud.

The location is the only thing that this place has going for it.
The pillow cases hade hade a stain on it when I came there.
If you wanna go to sleep before 23.00 on weekdays and 03:00 on the weekend.
One morning I realised that all the dishes are gone. Apparently some people didn't do the dishes and the receptionist hade conferenced all the dishes and we hade to text him to use em.
Then there some stories that are a bit crazy but I wasn't the when it happened so can't really say what leave it as an experience of this Hostal.

Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable. Good location.
Loud music till late at night!! I think it must've been from bar or maybe from other rooms.
Kitchen and floors were dirty (but room was clean.)

The renovations of this historic site were quite impressive. All the appliances are new. The king room was very comfortable and the Smart tv was an unexpected bonus. Trevor and Judy keep the entire location impeccably clean. 5 stars from this guest!

Very clean, bed was comfy. A bit lacking in shelves and hangers for your stuff, especially in the bathroom. It does get loud from the music from the pub, but you do get warned about it clearly so it's fair. We didn't mind the music, slept very well

I spent 3 nights in this hostel in winter, so not in the busiest time of the year.
I really enjoyed my stay here, the people were nice. I slept very well in the girls dorm, they give you a fleece blanket and a big towel! All the common areas were super clean.
It's not a big hostel (and a big company behind it) so you won't find a reception desk here, but all instructions are given to you via email. And if you talk to the owner, you'll understand that he has a lot of plans to keep improving the place.

I enjoyed the community atmosphere. The people were very welcoming and the location was amazing with the bar right below
