First I arrived at a room that does not have a view of the sea, the room is very good but the roof pool areas do not invite you to be there. Afterwards I changed to a room that does face the sea and it is very worth it since you can be in your room almost all day. I woke up to a strong smell like a pipe, which I really disliked.
The food is spectacular and the restaurant area is very good, the gym is basic but it does its job, it just doesn't have a treadmill. It became overrated to me
I didn't like the pool area, they don't invite you to be there because it's not welcoming, I didn't like that it smells a lot like sewage.

Hotel Basalto was an absolute pleasure to stay at. It was quiet, relaxing, and the staff was extremely friendly. Everyone working there was extremely flexible and provided any amenities that we needed. Also, the location is good because it is between two big cities, Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita.
I wish that the beach was a closer to the hotel. The walk back in the evening did not feel very safe. Also, a downside to the hotel's remote location is that finding an Uber is hard.

Beautiful property, with fantastic staff. Truly a hidden gem! Gorgeous views everywhere and love the design. We super enjoyed the on-site restaurant as well! We were treated extremely well and would return.
This is not at all the property’s fault, but unless you want a true “hotel” vacation I would maybe suggest renting a car to explore the surrounding areas. Uber is hard to come by in Punta Mita, and taxis are quite pricey!

I have very mixed fillings about this place. In general everything was ok, the staff was very friendly however one lady at the reception didn't speak english and on each question she answeared YES which made a lot of confusion.
The room had amazing ocen view, had very comfortable bed. The food in the restaurant was very tasty. There is no much in this area so we stayed mostly in hotel. The pool was nice, there was no proper beach access but nice spot to take good pictures.
-> one lady at the reception didn't speak english
-> cleanliness could be better
-> for this price I expected better quality

We truly loved our stay here. Such a gem of a hotel tucked away on a dirt road. We loved the rooftop infinity pool and super affordable drinks at the bar. The staff was incredible and so kind. Best night of sleep I've had in a long time. We would absolutely recommend and will stay again.

The location is above a small, quiet, isolated beach that offers truly outstanding views and (usually) restful sounds of waves rolling in. We had an ocean front room with a dozen feet of floor-to-ceiling balcony doors we didn’t close the entire time we were there. Sleeping immersed in the sound of the rolling surf was pure relaxation.
This isn’t a swimming beach, but there is a beautiful, uncrowded beach nearby that is accessible by a short walk along the shore (the walk was by no means too adventurous for a couple in average health in their late 50’s) or by way of the road from the hotel.
The staff are very friendly and helpful but you shouldn’t expect that over-trained Four Seasons’ resort staff vibe. These folks are less robotic.
The food is good but the dinner menu can wear a bit thin after four days. Plan for dinner in Punta Mita, or the Barracuda, or the Xiaobella next door for some variety.
I don’t go on vacation to do stuff, so I loved the peace and quiet here, but if you’re inclined to go shopping, zip-lining or partying… this location is a little less convenient than a full package resort.
The builder/designer chose good materials for the environment (stone, ceramic, teak, aluminium) but the salt air is relentless and it is taking its toll. The Hotel needs to step up its maintenance game as it is beginning to show some wear and tear.

Friendly & helpful staff, very quiet and relaxing vibe, spotlessly clean, great food and drink options on-site, beautiful location, perfect beach, comfortable and quiet room, couldn’t have loved it more. The free breakfast was beyond any other "free" option most hotels offer. There is a "private beach" directly in front of the hotel, but it is only accessible at low tide and not safe for swimming (too many rocks). HOWEVER....the most beautiful, spotless, uncrowded public beach is an easy 3-5 min walk down the road. We spent an entire day there and it was pure bliss. Walk S down the beach to enjoy a fab meal from La Barracuda right on the sand. Basalto has 2 pools onsite: rooftop one is heated, main floor one is a colder "plunge pool". Both are fabulous. Beers/drinks/cocktails onsite are delicious and extremely reasonably priced...even the minibar! So nice to stay at a well-appointed hotel that doesn't take advantage of guests by price gouging. We rented a car to get us to Sayulita, San Pancho, Punta Mita (the town), etc, which wasn't cheap but was VERY worth having because the location is a bit out of the way and we wanted the freedom/flexibility of bouncing around a bit. We will be back!
This isn’t the property’s fault & didn’t impact our stay whatsoever because we were out and about during the day, but there is a fair amount of construction in the area that can be heard during the day (except Sundays). Testament to the popularity of the area. I don't think this is going to end anytime soon.

Great food, amazing drinks, fantastic service, great contemporary design and the views are outstanding!
Our room had a bad odor the first night. They fixed it and it was not an issue our final 3 days. Construction at the property next door was noisy but we got used to it.

So much to stay! The staff were all so kind and helpful. The whole property was gorgeous: from the room, to the pools (two! so always sun to be had) it was all really well done. The food was also so delicious and so reasonably priced!
The only thing that I wasn't aware of from the listing was that it did not have beach front property. There is a small sandy area at the base of the steps towards the ocean, but with the tide you can't really hang out there. However, the beach isn't far, just a short walk down the dirt road - so overall still a great location and directly in between both sides of the beaches.
