Staff, facilities, food and location
Feels a bit like it’s in a very urban area

Onsen was lovely and you could book it privately in half hour slots. The food was amazing and service was great!
Nothing. Great place to stay in yamamouchi.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Private onsen is great. The dinner was incredible. Really enjoyed the breakfast too. Truly a unique and worthwhile experience.

Extremely welcoming and hospitable personnel. Great place to stay, you will enjoy the place. Design of this place is very unique. I will recommend to all my friends. We have enjoyed outside spring.
Inside spring pool was not so clean, recommended to install some pump to clean water from tiny impurities.

I recommend booking the private outdoor onsen as soon as you get there. Easy to get to the Snow Monkey Park from here, bus 5 minutes away. The traditional Japanese breakfast was not something I am used to but tried everything and glad I did! The hosts do a very good job of explaining everything and were only too willing to help with whatever. Glad I stayed here.

The mother/daughter owners were wonderful at making us feel at home, preparing fabulous breakfast and memorable dinners. The daughter, sayaka, speaks English well and she is very accommodating with all your needs. She is also very funny and easy to be around. She and her mother both cook exceptional Japanese food (nihonshoku), all ingredients procured from their local area in Nagano.
No dislikes, except rooms could use a light dimmer to make night lighting more comfortable than just one over-head bright light. Also, some warmer room sox to walk around outside the room because shoes are not allowed.

It was great to experience staying at a traditional Japanese inn. The ryokan had the regular facilities that you would expect including a great onsen both indoors and out doors which was very clean. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and also spoke English which helped a lot when I had questions. The morning that I had to leave they were thoughtful enough to prepare a packed lunch for me earlier than usual and also offered me a lift to the station. great stay!

We LOVED the breakfast. It was such a great start to the morning! We also loved how peaceful the outside onsen was. We also loved the staff - they were so kind and happy and made it truly enjoyable to stay there!
The indoor onsens were so hot that we couldn’t get in them. That would be my biggest complaint, especially since we booked it for the baths available.

Highly recommend! The staff was so helpful and kind. The onsen was great and it was easy to book the private outdoor onsen. The breakfast was delicious! Great location and easy to get to The Snow Monkey Park.

A real Japanese ryokan and onsen experience (and I’ve been to Japan many times). The staff could not be more welcoming and helpful (and spoke good English). The breakfast and dinner were traditional Japanese style (the kaiseki dinner had so much food!!) and were delicious and beautifully presented. There is a private ryokan where you can book a slot in the evening or it’s shared at other times and whilst the rooms don’t have shower (they have sink and toilet) it was fine to shower in the onsen facilities. The ryokan is located about 7 mins walking from Yudanaka station and they drive you to the snow monkey park which saved having to wait for a bus. I loved staying here and highly recommend to anyone wanting an onsen and ryokan experience while going to see snow monkeys.

There's both indoor and outdoor bath, the building and the room is really nice inside, the Japanese breakfast was great, and of course the hosts were great. Short walk from the main station. Free socks :-)
It's not the owners fault, but we forgot to reserve dinner in advance, so didn't get a chance to try it. I recommend reserving dinner/breakfast when you book if you want to try it :)

This ryokan was lovely. The staff were friendly and spoke English very well. The food was delicious! We loved the outdoor onsen, and it was very near the snow monkey park.
We are not used to the shared showers, but they were still very clean and nice. Also if you are not used to Japanese style futon it can be different than American beds, but still quite comfy.

The outdoor onsen is very nice. The location is also very close to the station, which is nice. The staff was very helpful during check in and pre-check in via booking.com's messaging service.

The outdoor onsen was really pretty, and was very nice to book for private use. Breakfast and dinner were simply delicious - worth the price. The staff were also very nice. I enjoyed my stay here.
