First breakfast the coffee machine hadnt been cleaned so had to have instant. Food was good.
Second morning. Good breakfast.
This use to be an excellent hotel and restaurant with food to die for pre covid. So stupidly i didnt check the Booking.Com or Trip Advisor reviews. On the bar there is a notice offering a free drink to guests if they do a positive review on TA. The positive ones you see are not for people staying, just bar users! It is now an open plan pub doing cheap food with rooms above! Shower leaking badly. Finally had it fixed on second night at 8pm. Water then tepid at best. Rotting bedroom window to the noisy rear outside sitting area wouldn't close. The fire door on the landing was jammed partially open with a piece of rag all the time we were there. The fire door on the side of the stairs to the upper rooms was off its hinges and the rooms inner fire door had a big crack in it. There was what looked like blood on one of the shelves in the wardrobe. The noise in the second room we hired for our daughter was very noisy until the bar closed. Very disapointed to see what was such a great place to stay become so run down.

The breakfast was very tasty and plenty of it
The carpets were dirty going up the stairs and in the room the shower head was unbelievable dirty with mould around the tray and tiles all the curtains had mould on the back of them the four poster bed had a mattress on top of a mattress and a single mattress was under the bed no slippers this B B is supposed to be a 5 star please don’t tell anyone it’s 5 star when people pay good money for a romantic night away we have taken photos if you need to see them

I loved the bath in our room.
Breakfast was nice, but not consistent quality
The staff weren’t very available to the hotel guests and often just busy in the bar.
Although our room was nice at first glance, the carpet and furniture was a little grubby and needs updating. I don’t normally complain about lack of sleeping when we stay somewhere, but our bed was very uncomfortable (small, hard and squeaky with every turn), the pillows were super hard too and not very good quality bedding.
The toilet didn’t flush well and often had to keep returning to it to try again. Perhaps old plumbing.
On check in we didn’t have toilet paper in the room and we had open shower gel from previous guest. No hand soap either.
The biggest thing that I didn’t like, was in the bedroom there were multiple fire exit signs that lit up bright green at night. It was extremely annoying and not something I’ve ever seen in a bedroom before.

Hotel was in a good location and we enjoyed the breakfast.
Our room was very disappointing and uncomfortable, definitely not great value for money.
It was dated and in need of refurbishment.
Curtains hanging off the rail in the bedroom and the vertical blinds at the same window were broken and wouldn't close.
Housekeeping was bad. Carpet hadn't been hoovered, fluff and stale Crisps left on the floor.
Every cup in the room was dirty, with thick brown sticky marks on them and the teaspoons were dirty too
We were left a quarter of a roll of toilet paper between 2 people for a 2 night stay.
Lots of hair left on the bathroom floor and in the sink, and don't even get me started about underneath the bath tub!
We had 2 single beds pushed together to make a very uncomfortable double, these beds are not zip-and-link beds, they are 2 single mattresses held together with a sheet, so as you can imagine you cannot comfortably lay in the centre.

the location was fantastic. The breakfast was good, a good choice.
the room were tired, needed updating. The blind wouldn't close, did not try the curtains and part of the curtain hanging off the rail.

Location, history and style of building.
Bedroom window did not shut and harboured mould. Man serving breakfast was uncommunicative and cold. Coffee at breakfast was so weak it was undrinkable and despite asking for a second, stronger coffee, it was the same as the first. We went across the road to buy a coffee instead.

The staff were wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble and they were very friendly.
We had a room on the front of the hotel and it was very, very noisy.
There was a lingering smell of cooking fat all over the hotel including the room.

Location
The room was OK however only one window in the bedroom opened the other one was broken
There was an extension lead trailing with the kettle and a lamp plugged in not good
Restaurant very disappointing specials starter not available nor was one of the starters on the main menu which would have been fine however
My husband dish was supposed to be papperadelli and they ran out but failed toadvise us therefore came with tagliatelle which he did not want, my when they asked my husband if he would like something else that choice was also not available on top of this my dish arrived like warm by this time it was 9:15 we had booked for 8pm too late to go anywhere else so nothing to eat or Saturday evening not great and no help from the staff
We have also followed up with an email to the hotel one week later no response !

Staff were excellent and very welcoming. The garden behind the hotel was an excellent sun trap and good for relaxing and enjoying a nice drink.

Great location in lovely small town. Attractive building, big room, delightful staff, excellent food…breakfast and dinners. Very welcoming staff.
Little thing…nowhere to put soap, shampoo etc in the shower…had to go on the shower floor.
Poor lighting in the four poster bed…difficult to read in bed!

Room was beautiful, lovely large bathroom with shower and bath. Fantastic breakfast and staff were warm and welcoming.
Bed was a little firm for my liking but mattresses are subjective and there was nothing wrong with it, all beautiful quality

Lovely hotel in the middle of a pretty, bustling town.
All staff were friendly and helpful and service was excellent throughout our stay.
Our room was inviting, comfortable, quiet, and spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast choices with everything freshly prepared and delicious. Italian themed evening menu also very good.
Special thanks to Rebecca, whose professionalism and energy made us feel valued as guests from the minute we arrived to the minute we left.

Nowhere to sit in the evening (and indeed the hotel essentially closed up on our second night)

Beautiful property, great location and all the staff were fantastic. The food was lovely too.
A bit noisy from the Main Street with the windows open at closing time. No real problem tho.

Room was spacious and bed very comfortable. Hotel was stunning, there was a lot of attention to the details. Garden was well maintained and breakfast was delicious.
No special toiletries in the bathroom, just standard ones, I would expect something more particular in a 5 stars hotel

Great location. Parking was problematic but knew this before our stay. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast and evening meal both very good. Decor was dreadful both in the room and in other parts of hotel and needs a complete overhaul. Plaster missing missing in the landing leading to the room, revealingly a large hole where rainwater had entered, really didn't inspire confidence that the property has been maintained to any great standard. £360 for 2 nights given the whole place looked neglected and unloved seemed too much to pay !

Only one visible member of staff very smiley and helpful.
This is a very lovely old hotel, but it is on a very busy high street. Stay here but ask for a room at the back if your hoping for a full night's sleep.
