Centre of town, comfortable beds and modern bathroom. Lovely dinner at the in-house restaurant. Continental buffet breakfast included. Room relatively small however fine for a one night stay for 2 people.
Drain in shower was clogged with hair but otherwise bathroom was clean.

Room was quiet. Shower was great. I didn't have dinner or breakfast.
I was happy.

Very small rooms, expected for old hotel

Location, and the outlook.
I made some inquiries beforehand but the hotel never responded . No hair dryer. Beds aged. Curtains worn out. Shower not worked properly.

I would have appreciated a small chair in the room as sitting on the bed is detrimental for my back and leaning against the wall on the bed meant I had my legs out straight which also pains my back ...I need to sit in a chair to read for the best comfort . In Future I will travel with a fold up chair for hotel rooms .

Nothing
The booking was stuffed up. We booked a Twin Room with 2 twin beds and a private bathroom and on check in was given a double bed with private bathroom. Went to reception to advise that this was not the room we booked. Eventually given a twin room with shared bathroom with no TV or refrigerator or kettle, in fact there was none of the items as described in our booking through Booking.com. No money was refunded for the downsizing of the room.

Lo decadente que es
Por poder podría ir mejor todo pero esto es Australia

The mattress, location, old architecture
The noisy floor, hot water runs out, the basic menu at the pub
5.0 / 5.0
Breakfast is basic but an absolute bonus for the overall price of the accommodation, I think this would have to be the most affordable, central, historical, friendly place in Queenstown to stay.

Convinced location, great views, nice read about the hotel history.
Wifi did not work, breakfast was very small,
Dinner in the pub was average.

The History
Upgraded bathrooms
Meals including breakfast
Room we had needed bit of maintenance
Loose PowerPoint and wall lining
1.5 / 5.0
location, no surpises with booking or payments, food
breakfast, upkeep of everything (paint, creaking wood, lighting).
4.0 / 5.0
Shared bathrooms were excellent.
Room facilities were good, but fly screens would have been good, though insects did not seem to be a problem.
Air conditioning would have improved comfort upon arrival, though Queenstown cooled down once the sun went down and as such our comfort levels went up.
Food was pretty good, wife enjoyed a lovely steak, daughter enjoyed a steak as well, whilst I was not able to finish a scrumptious Fettuccini Carbonara, breakfast was pretty good as well, though proprietors might consider having a short order cook in the morning to prepare a hot breakfast at a reasonable additional charge, might have been an economic consideration, given the larger number of people staying, the night we stayed there, at breakfast the next morning, something to consider, might add to client experience of The Empire Hotel, and possibly to their bottom line ?
Kind regards

See above.
Not so much as did not like, but more as, possible improvements to consider.

A once grand old Hotel. We were upgraded, enjoyed our time in Queenstown. Saw a great film on the saving of the Franklin at the paragon theatre. And had a great meal in a tiny wine bar with very good wine list.

Location was great
Stayed 3 nights and paperwork given to us on check in said rooms were serviced daily- not once.
Kettle was filthy-not usable.

location of the hotel
Unfortunately the room we were in was not up to the standards of this kind of hotel
It was a very small room and there was no dedicated place to put suitcases and clothes
It was situated right above a "compressor" of an air conditioner which made quite a strong noise at night even with the window closed. (room itself did not have air conditionning)
On top of that the fridge inside the room was also making strong noise and had to be disconneted in order to be able to sleep
I am including a picture showing electric fittings around the fridge (speaks by itself)

Average breakfast shower was good lots of hot water and pressure
The room was very hot, no air circulation, no screens on windows no sound barrier between rooms or hallway. The beds were spriny and uncomfortable

Schönes historisches Hotel. Toll, dass es noch so etwas gibt. Sehr nettes Personal.

Le cadre et le dîner
La chambre 5 n’est pas à recommander! Réfrigérateur bruyant, ventilation de la cuisine et pompes à chaleur sous la fenêtre. Difficile de trouver du repos. Quant au breakfast inexistant!

It has its own rich history. I love its staircase and old-fashion.
Our room is at the top of the pub. We went to bed early and the pub was busy and the music was loud. Thanks to the rules because it stopped until 10 pm which is not too late.

The hotel is well located within Queenstown (you can't miss it!) and the free breakfast option is awesome. The bar serving lunch and dinner is also very nice. The Queen room is a bit tight but cosy and very clean and the ensuite was great too.
On the first morning of our stay, there was no butter put out at the start of breakfast (at 7am) and there were no staff members to speak to so we decided to grab breakfast out since we had to be somewhere.

Old pub
Food was very overpriced and poor quality. Wait times for service was long.

we loved the ambiance of the hotel. the room we had with our own bathroom was lovely, with a great set up
the restaurant was crowded and the food was really average.

Loved the size of the room. Gorgeous old style bed to sleep in. Perfect for our overnight stay.
Handy to hsve the restaurant available in the hotel.
Staff were very friendly & helpful
The tv could have been placed higher up on the wall. The bottom bed head blocked some of the viewing

The old traditional pub and its history. Aesthetic was nice. Rooms were good for a budget. Multiple shared bathrooms clean and good for a budget. Good to have a whole bathroom to yourself when in use rather than a shower/toilet block. Whole experience astheticly pleasing and the history of the place was interesting. Central location to the town.
Food wasn’t very good, but large portions. very basic and minimal breakfast options. Staff were ok, some staff sometimes came across rude/cold or uncaring. I think they were stressed with how they were busy at the time though. Cleaning staff were friendly and welcoming.

This is a wonderful but VERY old hotel. The dining room, bar and food are great. The grand staircase in the main entry feels like walking into an old Western movie set.
The room was incredibly small. I wondered about the age of the wiring, seeing that our room relied on electric heaters and an electric blanket.

Wonderful building & interior.
The lack of an openable window & only an exhaust fan connected to the light in the bedroom was awful, we slept with the door open to the hallway as we couldn’t sleep with the light on & the noise of a “bathroom type” exhaust fan in a bedroom. The fumes from the paint or timber work were overpowering especially without ventilation. Our eyes & throats were sore. Such a disappointment when everything else was so good.

The beautiful quaint old pub, felt like we were stepping back in time. The history was fascinating to read about. The rooms were spacious, cleanly and beds so comfy! The idyllic, setting was just brilliant! And the staff helpful and friendly!

great location directly across the road from the Great Western Railway

room was not enough for 2 people, tiny ,small not a double room as advertised, had to pay extra for bathroom , no where to put suit cases
3.5 / 5.0
Character filled hotel in middle of Queenstown. Renovated bathrooms were clean and spacious. Electric blanket was welcome in the cold winter nights! Complimentary breakfast was simple but adequate.
My room felt like it needed a little more love - eg carpet had been replaced but skirting boards not repainted so a big deal line around top. Cost of restaurant was elevated considering what was on offer. Noisy patrons of pub below flowed through to accommodation area including excessive swearing.
