Everything, especially a beautiful quetzal and colibris in the garden :) Great place for few nights.
Be prepared for cold, but that is not a problem because in the place you will have blankets :)

We really liked this cute little cabin in the mountains. It’s simple but very well done with love and care

The location of Iyok Ami is wonderful. We were able to see Quetzales directly from the shared dining room. There are different hiking paths belonging to them, where you can enjoy the cloud forest. The hike to the waterfall was very beautiful and pleasantly challenging.
It was a bit cold in the night, but we had extra blankets, what made it work perfectly well.

beautiful location in the middle of mountainous paradise, rustic home and great gardens; lovely homecooked meal and breakfast (pancakes!) the next day

A real 'cabin in the woods' feel, lots of exposed wood, creaky floorboards, a big fireplace, home cooked food. We loved it! The surrounding forest is gorgeous, endless trails to explore (but it's a high elevation, so take it easy) You'll need to wrap up warm (cold at night) and be prepared to see Quetzals from the dining room!
Private rooms didn't have locks (never a problem, but an easy thing to fix)
No curtain on one of the three windows (would be good for insulation)

this place has something like "genius loci" - once you are there, you don't want to leave. We arrive late in the afternoon and there was a tasty dinner for very reasonable price and the owner was exceptionally helpful to all quests and organised a quetzals tour and transportation for us, the days here were the best of Costa Rica

Prepare well for five degrees at night

This very basic place but situated in exceptional place. If you are looking for hotel in this area you are also interested in quetzales, and here you can see them just from restaurant zone or from balcony.
It's cloud forest on the altitude around 2700, so it's pretty cold and hotel is without heating, but they provide a lot of blankets, so it's ok.
This place also give you access to well maintained trails in cloud forest, so need to go to National Park ;)
They have electrical heater for water and it's not the most powerful, so water is just warm even with low pressure.

Right in the middle of the jungle. Back to nature very authentic construction ‘’rustic style’’ works for me. The exellent trout dinner expertly served by Elvia.
the Lodge is not heated untill they light up the fireplace on the second floor in the evening. Bring ‘’warm’’ clothes!

The hostel is located in the mountains surrounded by nature. You can hike a couple of trails through the cloud forest starting at the hostel. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Besides breakfast, they provide restaurant-like dinner for reasonable prices.

Staying at Iyok Ami was a great experience. The hotel has its own hiking trails into the cloud forest, so there is no need to go to the Los Quezales national park. We really enjoyed hiking here! The dinner was homemade and delicious. Yes, it gets very cold at night in the area, but the hotel has a fireplace and plenty of blankets. And the breakfast with a view is just incredible.
Due to the open fire it gets pretty smokey inside in the evening.

Everything!! Brilliant place and super different from a lot of other places. They are out of the way but they will cook you meals for an extra charge, they also have different drinks you can choose from too. Its super cozy with fab music and a fire. They also have a ping pong and football table to play. The trails are fantastic and you can tell the area is full of wildlife!
Nothing! It is cold up there obviously but they provide enough blankets that it doesn’t matter.

Beautiful location, walking trails and great host - very knowledgeable and making you feel welcome. I'll come back!

The hosts are very kind and we enjoyed visiting with them. They were very flexible and accommodating with what they prepared for dinner and breakfast and both meals were really good. The location is really beautiful, but also very chilly (around 50 degrees Fahrenheit and raining). The only source of heat is a fireplace on the second level. We wished we'd had several layers of warm clothing with us! They provide ample blankets for the beds.
The bathroom attached to our room did not meet my expectations for a bathroom. The roof was leaking above the toilet, only cold water was available in the sink in both this and the common bathroom, and it was really cold in there.

The location is perfect for anyone interested in walking beautiful trails and seeing wildlife. The hostel has its own set of trails that you can do for free, or there are lots of other options for hikes and tour guides to national parks and areas where you can spot the Resplendent Quetzal. One of the staff members at the hostel, Daniel, was so helpful and did his best to find out information for us and make us feel comfortable during our stay. It would have been ideal if we'd had a car, but that option wasn't available to us as we are backpackers.
It should be noted that this hostel is not suitable for backpackers who don't have their own means of transport. The hostel is located off a busy road with no pavement, so it's dangerous to walk along, but there is no other option but to do so if you don't have a car. There are also hardly any buses going through the area, and you can't book onto them in advance, you have to wait on the side of the road and hope that they stop for you. We waited for a bus which never arrived and ended up having to hitch hike. There are also no taxis in the area that can help take you anywhere.
Also, the hostel's location is wrong on Booking.com, so don't go by that map at all, go by the Google maps one, which calls it Iyok Ami Tours. We thought it was a different place because it was far down the road from the booking.com one and had a different name, but the Google maps one is the right location.
The WiFi hardly worked the entire 3 days of our stay, so that's worth baring in mind before staying here. There is also no cash machine for miles, so if you have no car, no Internet and no cash, then you're going to be pretty stuck.

Beautiful remote cabin vibes with fireplace and Cosy quarters. Such wonderful staff who go above and beyond to make you feel special. So many stunning hiking trails, hummingbird that you could enjoy the nature just in this backyard for days! A great stop on the way to or from the airport as it was a close drive (yet felt so remote). And great dinner!

Amazing place! 🥰 There is a wonderful forest with hiking trails and waterfall. Some of the trails are challenging, but it worth it! Natural and pure as it is. Enjoy the nature there. Bedrich is a very nice host and help a lot with his Tipps, about where to go and what to see. You need to try food there, it is local one and so delicious! Especially the homemade drinks, like ginger tee or berry smoothie. It is fresh in the mountains and I could sleep very good, because there are a lot of blankets. 100% recommended 👌

This was the best place we stayed in in Costa Rica. Location is great with excellent views. We were interested in birdwatching and saw 4 quetzals very nearby. This is a small rustic lodge so don't expect luxury but the staff are excellent, the food basic but good and cheap and there is an excellent bookshelf and stacks of 70s/80s LPs for entertainment. Jairo, the birding/nature guide is excellent and very good value for money. Bedrich is also very friendly and knowledgeable. It gets very cold at night but there is a good fire and stacks of blankets in the bedroom. Wifi was OK for a place as remote as this. There are excellent walks from here but be prepared for steep climbs and descents. Like many other reviewers we would not hesitate to return - Thanks to everyone there

This is the first place in Costa Rica who made us wanna stay (we did had an extra night). The staff is amazing, they all have pretty souls and will make you feel at home. The hiking trails are beautiful and natural. The food is fine. The place is really pretty and respectful of the planet (and we loved the fire place). We'll go back there in a minute. Ho, and there is HOT WATER. After 5 months of traveling this is really nice xD (even if it's almost normal when you consider the temperature over there).
Nothing really...
