Everything was excellent from the moment they pick you up at the ferry terminal. Traditional ryokan with modern amenities. Dinner was great and uniquely Japanese. Went to the onsen in the early morning and it was empty so I had the place to myself.
Nothing, although the Japanese breakfast was something that I had to get used to.

Fantastisk overnattingssted med god mat, hyggelig atmosfære og sjarmerende betjening i både resepsjonen og restauranten. Føltes oss veldig velkommen og kommer gjerne tilbake. Anbefales på det sterkeste!

The Iwaso clearly was a highlight of our 3-weeks honeymoon in Japan. The staff was very sweet and incredibly helpful. The restaurant makes delicious dishes, with several options for breakfast, and if you stay two nights like we did, don't expect to have twice the same meals! My husband got the best meat of his life (the best wagyu beef he had during the trip), as well as blowfish, and several oyster-based dishes (locally grown oysters, of course). The restaurant staff even adapted to my dietary requirements (vegan) and was able to make very, very delicious dishes with all kinds of seasonal products.
Regarding the room! A spacious, very pretty and neat room with view on the Torii. Watching the sunset slowly darken the mountains and the Torii while drinking great tea and sitting on tatamis in the comfortable kimonos lent by the hotel was priceless. Ah yes, and as a tea lover, you actually have great tea in the room (two types, including genmaicha, in leaves in nice tea boxes, not teabags).
And what can I say about the location? The park in front of the hotel is full of momiji trees, which become scarlet red in late November. Across the park lies the ropeway to get up the mountain, but you can also take the hiking path like we did, and reach the summit within a bit more than one hour, to get a great view over Hiroshima bay.
Last but not least: the hotel is only a few minutes away from the beach, the shrine and the Torii! I'm a morning person, and I woke up naturally at 5:30 and was able to quickly walk to the beach to watch the sunrise behind the Torii and visit the shrine alone at the opening. An incredible moment, I will never forget this.
Everything was perfect!

typical ryokan, with great food and close to everything. but ask them to send you a car at the port if you arrive with suitcases.

the food wasn’t good or fresh. my friend got sick after dinner and we suspect it was a bad oyster. the place is old and needs an update.

Our stay at Iwaso was magical! We were treated so kindly by all of the staff. Everything from our pick up at the ferry terminal, the amazing dinner that evening and kindly keeping our suitcase while we explored the mountain the next day then making sure we had a ride back to the ferry when we left. Such a beautiful location.
Nothing, our room was so spacious and clean. Easy walk to the tram to the mountain or to explore the shopping area.

The breakfast and dinner were phenomenal. Served in room each dish was better than the last. The location was very central to all of the parks and shrines. Staff was phenomenal. The photos on the internet do not do the onsens justice. Each onsen was very clean and relaxing!

The venue and onsen were gorgeous. I was especially happy with the indoor and open air baths. It was great to try both sides of the onsens (they switch the men and women sides the next day). The staff spoke English and were very welcoming. They took the time to explain the scheduling for meals, they explained what was being served, and how to stay at a ryokan which was great for me since it was my first time trying it. From the ryokan all of miyajima’s sites are easily accessible. The staff also sends a free shuttle to pick you up at the ferry and they also hold your luggage once you check out.
The only small complaint was it was but hot in the room but it was easily solved by opening the window and turning off the heater.

The location, in Miyajima’s Momijidani (“maple leaf valley”), cannot be beat. The bilingual staff were unfailingly kind and went out of their way to assist us: be sure to take advantage of their shuttle or their offer to transport your luggage to the ferry terminal so you don’t have to drag it to the boats yourself. The onsen baths were beautiful (though a tad small), and breakfast was healthy and served in ample portions.
The shinkan (new wing) rooms lack the aesthetic charm of the original building; carpets seem faded and the dining room needs a reworking in my opinion.

Everything it was such a great experience to emerse your self in Japanese culture. From the warm welcome the moment we arrived to the fantastic experience with our hostess Ayia. If you are lucky enough to have her as your hostess immediately you will have kicked a goal. Ayia just made us so welcome and had such great humer she was fantastic.
Also the onsen was fantastic as it was my first time using one.
And the location was just fantastic. If you're going to visit myrijima this is the place to stay.
The only thing we didn't like was the very unpleasant smell coming from the bathroom.
