Everything about the stay was incredible. Our room was well furnished and comfortable, the outdoor bath was beautiful and relaxing, and the meals provided were so delicious. Our hosts were incredibly kind, and accommodating, and we had a very pleasant conversation with them over dinner and in the car about our trip. Could not have asked for a more perfect experience.

stayed for 2 nights at this place and it was one of the best experiences on our 3 week trip to Japan. The house is owned by husband and wife who works at the place. We had the whole house to ourselves 2 people. The house is situated 6 km from town and is a traditional Japanese onsen next to a waterfall. We felt very welcome and the family went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The food was some of the best we had in Japan cooked traditionally by the fire in the house and served in the dining room. The family drove us forth and back to the train station, and when we went hiking on the Magome - Tsumago trail, and took us to the festival in the town. If you are in for a real Japanese experience- we can’t recommend this place enough.
we liked it all

The most amazing stay at this incredibly beautiful traditional Japanese home. Koike and family were warm and welcoming hosts. Attention to every detail was thought of. A special mention for the amazing food, the best we had in our time in Japan!
Nothing - it was a great experience.

Amazingly hospitable owner. Nothing was too much trouble including driving us to another town given train delays. Fantastic, authentic dinner and breakfast and beautiful onset waterfall location. Can’t recommend enough

Everything. Keiko San and his wife are very kind and friendly hosts, the food they prepare is delicious, the property is delightfully characterful with private onsen facilities, and in a magical forest setting looking on to its own waterfall. Keiko San very kindly picked us up from Nagiso station (and dropped us back there when we left), and took us to Magome and back from Tsumago on the day we walked the Nakasendo trail. He and his wife are great hosts.

The onsen was wonderful. Available at all hours, impeccably clean, with a wonderful view of the falls. A large flood light made the falls visible at all hours.
Toilet facilities were perfectly adequate and very clean, but they could be updated. Very minor issue though.

We walked from Magome to Tsumago where we were picked up by the owner for a short drive to his lovely home. His policy of only taking one booking at a time means you have the incredible luxury of private bathing in a very picturesque setting. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The owners were lovely and very patient with us when we didn't always get customs right. Our room was large with separate bedroom and seating areas both indoors and out looking over the river. Everything was spotlessly clean. The following day he took us to the railway station. Altogether a wonderful way to enjoy the Kiso valley

Excellent experience. This traditional house is surrounded by nature and is right next to a waterfall. There are also two private onsen for you to relax and enjoy the sound of the nature.
Koike and his family will definitely make you feel at home. Koike is a spectacular cook, he only uses fresh ingredients to prepare dinner and so far it’s probably the best food we’ve had in Japan. Breakfast also was delicious.

Everything about Takimi is perfect- the food, the proprietor, the location, the hot spring. I can’t recommend it enough; it was such an incredible experience. We had a rough start to our honeymoon (the train doors close fast so be ready), which made us late checking in. Koike helped us find the right train back and patiently waited for us at the train station. I was stressed but as soon as we arrived at the inn we felt relaxed and happy. His cooking uses fresh ingredients in creative and delicious ways, and I had the best food I’d had in Japan in his home. His past experience as a highly trained chef clearly shows in his food which elevates the home cooked meals to impressive heights. His wife is so thoughtful that she anticipates your needs before you even know you have them- true hospitality. This was by far the nicest place we have stayed at in Japan and Koike and his wife were genuine, kind, helpful, fun and thoughtful. I will absolutely stay in their home again when we come to Japan next.

Private ryokan experience with wonderful staff. Koike-san is an excellent host and cook. Meals, especially dinner, were grand affairs with good food. We had an irori dinner the first night, followed by shabu shabu the next.

It is a peaceful place in the mountains, located beside a waterfall and the woods.

This was a highlight of our trip around Japan. You get to stay in a beautiful traditional house and interact with welcoming local hosts. The house is surrounded by nature right next to a waterfall. There’s private onsen: one outdoor and indoor. You get to wear the traditional clothes: one for dinner, another one for sleep. Hosts serve amazing dinner!!!! The entire experience is one of a kind and definitely would love to come back next time!
