This is a beautiful home that has been tastefully and artfully furnished. It is ideal for a couple, and the guest room is adequate for two guests. There is a lower grass terrace that is ideal for an evening drink with a good view of Santa Barbara and the waterfront, a middle terrace off the living room that works well for lunch and dinner for 4 or fewer, and an upper terrace that seats 6-10 for meals. The kitchen is well appointed with a good supply of beautiful dinnerware. The owner was very accommodating. We suggest two areas of caution: First, the first floor guest bath has a free standing tub and shower curtain ring that can be annoying for guests who prefer showers to baths (although the upstairs master bath is beautiful and can be made available to guests, as we did. Second, the home is at the top of a steep hill and accessed by 30+ steps. We are septuagenarians and hosted three other septuagenarians as guests for short periods and had no issues accessing the house or navigating the neighborhood on long walks. If these aren’t an issue, as they were not for us, then this is an ideal property for an extended stay in the lower American Riviera near the mission .

We loved our month here. Delightful, well maintained 2 bedroom home in the Lower Riviera adjacent to the MIssion. Quiet and private. Great neighborhood for walking. Can't wait to return.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this property. The grounds, the view, the cozy interior all contributed to a spectacular 2-week stay with family. The neighborhood is quiet and we enjoyed exploring during sunset walks. It was perfect for two couples with ample space to remotely work a portion of the week. We took every opportunity to enjoy the fireplace during cool evenings and patio during the day. The home is a short walk to the mission, 15-min walk to the courthouse and a 10-min drive to the water. The owner provided excellent communication before arrival and during the stay. We hope to return soon!

What a spectacular home! Perched on the Riviera, the views are amazing and the location is ideal. The abundant outdoor space flows seamlessly with the well appointed interior rooms. The charm of the decor matched with the high quality amenities gives the impression of a luxurious European boutique hotel. Margaret was a dream to work with, striking that delicate balance between offering autonomy and providing support. We feel like we have discovered our home away from home in Santa Barbara!

This property, it's location as well as any/all communications needed with the owner were just amazing. We were blown away. This is a HOME not a grungy VRBO rental. It is in a VERY quiet neighborhood so not the spot to stay for loud activity. My Family includes a 3.5 year old and an infant-- families like ours should be mindful that the house also has many beautiful but fragile items throughout (art, china etc) so be aware as my wife and I were about what is "off limits" to the kids. We hope to stay here again and can't express how stunning the property is.

This home is beautiful. The location is very central, perfect for walks to the mission or just around the neighborhood. The outdoor areas are expansive and serene. The home was thoughtfully stocked with most essentials, not to mention very clean. I’d definitely recommend staying here. We really enjoyed our stay!

Quintessentially Santa Barbara. My husband and I loved the location, and I did walks in a loop up to and around the Mission, and Natural History Museum daily. We walked into town and up to the Riviera Theatre. The house is simply lovely. Each morning we enjoyed one of the outdoor patios for breakfast and lovely evenings overlooking Santa Barbara, and it was a wonderful place to host a dinner with friend. The house is beautifully appointed and fully and thoughtfully supplied with whatever we needed and beyond. Margaret, the owner was prompt and helpful and very caring. We simply loved our stay and hope to come back.

Beautifully appointed home full of charm and coziness! Gorgeous Views to the ocean. I have never felt so much at home in a rental property, perfect base for exploring Santa Barbara and the surrounding areas. The host was very helpfull and generous with information about the house which made our stay very easy! Would definitely recommend this property!

I cannot say enough about this home and its gracious owners! The house is quintessential Santa Barbara - from the architecture to the furnishings. The home is very spacious and clean, with a fantastic layout for families. The side and back patios are beautiful, and with breathtaking views. And even more so, Margarat is so responsive and hospitable. She was very communicative, and went above and beyond to ensure a great experience. She even suggested local day trip options when the weather was inclement. We cannot wait to come back, and hope to make this rental home a tradition!

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house. Truly a home away from home:), everything was perfect ... the bedding, the linens, the kitchen, the living room, the lovely dining room and last but not least the beautiful outdoor seating area. Communication with Margaret could not have been better and we hope to be able to return. I highly recommend this beautiful house to anyone as long as you have no problems using stairs to get from the street to the house. It would be a shame that this great property gets negative reviews because of the steps.

This is a very special house, and by no means your average rental. The couple who own this home have exquisite taste, and clearly appreciate the best of everything. You will never find a better decorated or equipped house for a couple that likes to cook and entertain. Everything that can be upgraded, has been, from bathroom fixtures to lighting. There are many lovely outdoor spaces that are conducive to reading and relaxing, trees and shrubs burst with flowers and fruits, and the overall location is excellent for exploring Mission and Rivera area (the El Encanto hotel is only a short walk away). The house, designed by Santa Barbara's most famous 1920s architect, has a great flow, and we comfortably sat 13 at dinner on the backyard dining table. There are also two first-class mountain bikes, along with helmets and saddle bags, for use of guests. Potential renters should be aware that there are a lot of steps, both in the house, and in the yard, and the home is not appropriate for people with mobility issues. Nor is it really ideal for families with small children, or more than one child, since the second bedroom is on a different floor from the palatial master suite (and its lovely ocean views), and there is only one bed in the second bedroom. There is, however, a mostly enclosed lower yard that is perfect for children to play soccer on, and my two children (who were not thrilled to share a bed) had a marvelous time exploring the yard and house and making fresh orange juice with oranges from the garden. The house could definitely work for two couples. Overall I have to say that this is an astoundingly beautiful house and one I would return to with pleasure.

My husband and I stayed in this house "up on the hill" to celebrate my 54th birthday. We enjoyed ourselves so much that it was really hard to return home to Fresno. The house has a beautiful yard area and we spent most of our time outdoors enjoying all of our meals. The views of the city and ocean are spectacular! The accomodations were fantastic and we slept with the french doors open in the master bedroom. Note: Be prepared to walk up stairs and carry up your luggage in order to gain entry into the house although it was good exercise! It was one of our best vacations ever and we still talk about it and can't wait until we return. Thank you Margaret for opening up your home to us and we look forward to our return.

My wife and I just recently stayed at this beautiful house for 10 days. We have been coming to Santa Barbara each year for 10 years and this was the best home we have stayed in. It has fantastic views of the city and the ocean. There are great outside areas for sitting in the sun or outside dining. The house is beautifully decorated with comfortable furniture and beds. It is an easy walk to the Mission, movie theater, and great walking neighborhoods. I would recommend this home to everybody who loves the feel of Santa Barbara.

Our weekend at this lovely home was wonderfully relaxing. The home is beautiful, comfortable and well appointed. It is located within walking distance to the Santa Barbara Mission and a short drive to downtown Santa Barbara. The owners were very accommodating and friendly. Would definitely recommend this home!
