Most of our family, friends, and guests are immediately drawn to the riverfront with a nice easy walk along the river shore, enjoying the many diverse sections of the river. In and along the river, you and the entire family can enjoy several falls, natural pools, Islands, rock outcrops, swimming holes, tree bridges, and panoramic views from the covered porch. Don't miss out on an opportunity to savor the sights and sounds of the river next to a campfire at our brick fire pit directly overlooking the Independence river. Also, the lodge is located on a private & dead-end road providing guests with great privacy.

As you enter the lodge from the driveway, you walk directly into the Great Room with cathedral ceilings, exposed timbers, custom trim, premium furniture, new appliances, and durable flooring throughout. Your group will enjoy an open kitchen and dining room with custom 3 inch thick natural live edge wood counters and bar tops providing an authentic Adirondack feel. After a long day outside, cozy up to the natural stone fireplace (electric) in the Great Room central to the Lodge's look and feel. Then exit through the large front sliding door to the spacious covered porch with amazing panoramic views of the river and forest. The porch has natural Hemlock posts and cedar railings from the surrounding area with ample room for the entire group to soak in the views and relax.

The lower walkout level is completely finished with a Great Room, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Full Bath, and small office space. The two lower-level bedrooms include a custom-built cedar log Twin over Queen bunk in one room, plus a custom-built cedar log queen bed in the other room. Then to top it off, we provide a custom-built log Queen futon in the Great Room. In addition to the futon, extra twin-sized beds and/or floor mattresses can be provided for guests sleeping on the lower level. Our design incorporates several top of the line soundproofing techniques between floors so that all guests can enjoy privacy, peace, and quiet when they need it most. Also, from the lower level, you can walk out to a 320 square feet covered patio area with panoramic views. All lower level ceilings will have large exposed & rustic beams designed and finished with a natural Adirondack feel throughout.

The fishing along the river has great Trout fishing. A gentle Slope trail to the right of Lodge provides an easy walk to shore. More walking trails and landscaped areas along the riverfront gives you great access to the river. Enjoy a romantic time with your spouse on the new cedar log lounge swing located along the river's edge.

This Property is located near the Famous Otter Creek Horse Trails (hiker Friendly). Adjacent to the western edge of the Adirondack Park to the east of Lake Ontario, south of Lowville in Lewis County are two public forest areas managed by the State Department of Environmental Conservation, (the DEC): the Independence River Wild Forest, and the Independence River and Otter Creek State Forest. There are arguably 65 wonderful miles of riding trails through these two adjacent wilderness areas. They are called the Otter Creek Horse Trails. The Otter Creek Horse Trails are a series of old sandy roads and wooded trails that traverse a beautifully diversified region, populated with wildlife. Once off the sandy roads, the trails wind their way along sand flats and through wooded areas, access picturesque glacial ponds, and have climbs that lead to fine river vistas. If you and your horse like water, the trails follow or cross the Independence River and no less than seven smaller waterways: Otter, Little Otter, Beaver Meadow, Chase, Burnt, and Crooked Creeks. All eventually flow into the Black River that continues on north into Lake Ontario. It's truly a beautiful area in any season of the year. Yes, even in winter. We supply you with a color map of the Otter Creek Horse Trails.

This southern Lewis County gem is also near other Large NYS parcels of land. Independence Wild Forest is 76,000 acres forever wild. The Otter Creek State Forest is about 3 miles away and has 1200 acres of great fishing and hiking.

Our Pet Policy: We accept pets & we love our own doggos and they love coming with us to the Lodge. A pet fee will be applied for the pet, per stay (not per day). Our fee is a maximum of $120 per stay, this applies to the large dogs and a minimum fee of $50 per stay . Please include details regarding your pet within your initial inquiry, such as how many, type, breed, or any other information you’d like to share. We will respond with a special offer that includes the subtotal of the pet fee. This is the process has directed us to take based on their platform’s capabilities. When staying at the Lodge please note the following rules for your pet:
1: Pets are to be supervised when outside and at the waterfront
2: *Pets are not allowed on or in the beds or furniture (if pet hair/fur is found on furniture, guests will be charged $40/hr of related cleaning time)
3: When pets are left alone inside the lodge, pets should be crated or kept in a pen
4: Please keep your pets clean of dirt or debris when inside the Lodge (check paws at the door)
5: Please keep play outside to mind the floors, this includes fetch, jumping, scratching, digging, etc.
6: Please bar your pets from peeing or pooping on exterior surfaces of the Lodge, such as siding, porch, posts, decking, exterior lighting, fencing, etc.
7: Owners are to remove and poop from the yard, baggies are provided under kitchen sink
8: Please try to clean up any excess shedding inside the Lodge before leaving
9: Pets are to have up to date rabies vaccinations and shots

*Recently we have had several guests with pets stay at the lodge that did not follow the pet rules. Unfortunately, we now have to clarify that there will be a financial penalty places on guests that do not follow the rules. the rate of $40/hr of extra cleaning time applies to pet fur/hair found on the furniture, in the beds/beddings, and blankets. We love our pets and we hope that all of our guests and their pets enjoy their stay at the lodge, and we do not expect every dog hair to be gone, however it takes a lot of time to clean up excessive pet hair & fur from the furniture, blankets, and beddings. We will have you sign a simple acknowledgement of these rules before or on arrival. Thank You.

Trails/Hiking
For a short and scenic walk directly from the Lodge, walk down White Tail Drive and take a left on the Rudd Road to the old abandoned bridge (safe to walk on). From here you will have scenic views both up and downstream of the river.
Parking for the Independence River State Forest and Independence Wild Forest with access to several trailheads is only 5 miles away. These 673 acres/ 76,000 acres of state land provide many miles of hiking/horseback riding/snowmobiling trails, fishing hot spots, camping, and picnic areas. The “shady trail” is a nearby and shorter day hike that is great for kids (2 miles) within the state forest. The roadside trailhead is only 5 miles/9 minutes away off of the east side of the South Chases Lake Rd, see the google maps link and location below. You’ll exit the Rudd Rd taking a left on Pine Grove Rd for 1.3 miles, then take another left on S Chases Lake Rd for 3.3 miles before seeing the trailhead on your right. The trailhead is on the same side of the S Chases Lake Rd as the entrance to the Otter Creek Horse Trails or Otter Creek Horse Assembly Area.

We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful riverfront paradise. The sound of the river was tranquil and lovely to hear while drifting to sleep. Our grandchildren had a wonderful time exploring the river, its islands, and natural flat rock waterslides. My son enjoyed fishing the river and caught a lot of fish. The house set up was great for multiple family members and having private spaces when needed. The firepit and view were a treat for making smores and spending time together in the evening. I'd rent it again in a heartbeat. Clean and well stocked.

Chose this property for relaxation and family time. It was perfect. Beautiful house right on the Independence River. The kitchen had a great selection of pots, pans, cooking utensils etc. Beds comfortable. Upper deck for morning coffee. Lower patio with the cleanest grill I have seen in a VRBO house. We also used the outdoor fire pit for smores one night. We took a couple of day trips —to Inlet for kayaking and to Cooperstown to see Hall of Fame. We all loved this house and are very appreciative to the owners for sharing it.

Almost forgot to post. I almost don’t want to as I don’t want the schedule to fill up so we can’t get a week next year. From the moment we pulled in to the time we left, we were in awe. There is NOTHING you need to bring. Keurig and cornhole boards even. This place is so well worth the price. Looking forward to this place again next year for our much needed rest and relaxation. Thank you to the owners who have created a haven for mental refreshment. God bless you.
