The first hour of parking is free, $1.25 per hour thereafter, daily maximum parking $12. On street metered parking is FREE Saturday 6 PM-Monday 8 AM, and all city holidays.

Outstanding property right in the heart of AVL. Walkable to many great restaurants, brew pubs etc. the deck was awesome and overall gorgeous place ideal for two couples. Highly recommend!

We stayed for 4 nights and loved the location. So fun to be in the mix of things in downtown Asheville. The S&W building has a very cool vibe. The cafeteria below is so fun. The condo is very large and well equipped. It’s nicely decorated and feels homey.
Conversely - I didn’t like needing to download 2 apps for our stay. You’re renting from a company not a person. The deck is nice for getting some sun but you can’t see anything from it and the furniture is very dirty. I would have wiped it off but towels are limited. The washer dryer is very new and it’s a combo. So you need to run thru the full process (wash then dry in the same machine) with one load at a time.
None of these items above are deal killers. We would stay there again but it’s good to know these things when planning your stay.

The Southern Gem was perfect place to stay for a Girls weekend. Great location to so many great restaurants, shopping/boutiques and we even did a spa day. Very clean and spacious for group of 4. We were able to walk to majority of places we went to. Used Lyft/Uber to a couple of places that were a bit further and price was very reasonable. Definitely recommend taking the Trolley Tour. Was very helpful showing us some places in Asheville we may have overlooked. Also recommend the Piano Bar. That was was such a fun place to go to at night.

Our family had an amazing trip to Asheville. The location of the property was perfect. So convenient and walkable to everything downtown. The condo itself was well stocked with ample space for a family of 4. We loved the modern decor and the furniture and beds were very comfortable. We would definitely book this same property again!

The pictures highlight the beauty of the space. Every detail is cared for including coffee, creamers, etc. Lots of nice extra touches if you give information about your trip. They added a little something to make my husband’s birthday extra special when we arrived. In addition, the location is walkable to restaurants and shopping. The only thing to note is that for loading or unloading of your bags, you can park in front of the RH next-door for a short time before parking your vehicle and their suggested parking spots. Also, upon walking into the S&W, which is like a cafeteria eatery there is not good signage to let you know to go to the right, to find the elevator to the apartment/condos. Once you’re on the floor and enter your room, you transcend into this beautiful space. Very quiet and upscale. Would definitely return!

The condo was beautiful and very well stocked with everything we needed. We had a great time and enjoyed spending time on the deck for coffee and in the evening after days of exploring the area.

Really happy with the location and apartment. The upstairs bedroom does not have a door, but is the only room upstairs. Very spacious. I thought there would be “bar noise” until the late, but actually our stay which was a Thursday and Friday night had essentially quiet hours after 12, with exception of a car or two (as expected in the city). Would definitely recommend. The parking garage is behind the building’s front door, but there is a back door entrance. Communication on the exact parking location was not optimal, but we figured it out.

The building is terrific, the location is central to most everything you would like downtown. Parking is a bit of a challenge, but manageable.
Overall, the apartment is tired. Needs a fresh coat of paint, new rug etc. The most disappointing aspect was the patio. We had high hopes of reviewing the days activities on the patio, but it was a mess - nothing like what is pictured on the listing. All the planters are in disrepair, plants/weeds are all dead, cigarette/cigar butts in one of the planters. Be careful in bare feet as many of the floor boards are either splintering or about to give way.
This certainly took away from the experience we were anticipating.

Excellent condo with 2 very large bedrooms with large private bathrooms plus a half bath located right downtown. Lovely private patio. Perfect for our 2-couples weekend. The management company is somewhat intense with lengthy contract and 2 apps to download; based on the contract's language we took toilet paper, extra towels, coffee, etc. however none of those items were required for our 2 night stay. The unit could use a deep cleaning as silverware, mugs etc. were put away dirty (assuming by prior guests) and the usual build up of dust, etc. with 'normal' cleaning however this did not detract from our excellent weekend. King beds were comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

A couple observations - need to have at least 4 wine glasses; a few of the boards on the deck are rotted and we sank into them; I stepped on a nail on the staircase that had popped.

Some friends and I stayed here for a little concert weekend in Asheville and it could not have been a better spot. The building it’s self is super cool as the condo sits about a popular food court and brewery. We we’re right in the heart of it all, a short walk to practically anything downtown. Place was clean, spacious and nice. The patio was a great spot to catch some morning sun and plan the day.

This place could not be in a more central location in downtown! It is a great unit with plenty of space and everything you need. Very clean and comfortable! We walked everywhere and will be a must stay again for our weekend getaway. Highly recommend!

The location is awesome, close to everything cool! Parking not so much, if your elderly I would not recommend this particular rental, parking was about 2 1/2 blocks away and lugging your luggage that far may not be worth it. Not all the lights and outlets were working, not sure what’s going on there? And the 2nd floor bedroom has a RTU (roof top unit) mounted on the roof right above this room and when it runs it shakes the ceiling and is quite loud, not very conducive to a good nights sleep.

My three girls and I had a lovely stay at Southern Gem. The location can't be beat for restaurants and shops because you're in the middle of it all. The property was well appointed. There is no dedicated parking which makes arriving and leaving cumbersome, but there is a parking deck behind the building that makes it bearable.

Our Asheville Trip
We enjoyed our stay, The apartment was very nice and quiet by exception the traffic noise on the second floor bedroom on the weekend, the location is centralized to everything in Asheville barely had to drive. One thing that absolutely blew our minds was the Internet connection (fast) and the on-demand Netflix and programming that was effortless, truly a plus! Love the wood floors a gorgeous apartment. One small observation The AC had a little trouble keeping up with the heat on the second floor, fans are readily available and remedied that issue. Parking while challenging at times was no issue when we parked in the well maintain parking garage a very short walk from the apartment. Would we stay again? Yes!

Spacious, modern, well equipped property with great access to downtown Asheville. We were in town for our daughter's wedding and the large living area made it very convenient for other relatives to visit. The second (very large) bedroom/living area is up a flight of stairs.
The check in process was complicated by the fact that they sent us two emails with check-in instructions at the same time. They looked identical but we found out otherwise when we couldn't get into the front door of the building at 8:00 PM because the code wouldn't work. The building access code was different in the two emails and we didn't figure that out until the morning. Fortunately, there was someone who was inside the building that let us in that night.
Unloading is a little problematic as there is no place to stop in front of the building. We usually pulled just around the corner on to Church Street to come and go in cars. The large public parking garage behind the building is very convenient ($1/hr, max $12/day) and you can also access the building through a rear entrance door with the same code.
We had the same problem mentioned in a previous review with sink & shower drainage in the 2nd floor bathroom - quite unpleasant. I reported it separately - let's see if it gets referenced in future reviews.
Overall, I recommend this property as a great central point from which to enjoy Asheville (as long as they fix the clogged drains).

Was great for two couples as two great master suites. Parking is an issue and cars had to be moved once. Kitchen and unit was very well equipped. There was stair access which is a huge plus. Worth the price.
