The location is perfect for our family visits
3.0
Central position in the town. Free parking. Good selection of teas and coffee in our room.
Our bedroom was so cold, in fact the venue itself was cold. Breakfast room uninviting and cold. Breakfast hit and miss. Less bacon and beans on the second morning, and it was cold. Cold coffee and tea. No marmalade. Had to ask for fruit juice on the second morning. Didn't like the milk being served in the plastic container it was bought in and just taken to each table as it was needed. Lots of cobwebs in our room and no extraction fan in the bathroom. Very little interaction by staff during our stay.

Twin room was spacious and the bed was comfortable
The chef was 50 minutes late for breakfast so we only had toast. The room was a bit noisy from the traffic

Welcoming traditional inn in small town location with good rate for overnight stay and safe parking included. Originally only a twin room was available but due to a no show we were offered a double room after checkin which we much appreciated.
We were told at checkin that breakfast was served 8 - 10am. Arrived downstairs the next day at 9.15am to be informed that chef had gone home as breakfast only served until 9am on a weekend but 10am during the week. A bit frustrating as we had a 300 mile drive ahead of us. Cereal and tea provided but staff on duty informed us she was not allowed to make toast.

Town centre location was very convenient. Breakfast very good. Ample parking. Good shower in spacious ensuite.
Surprisingly noisy (street activity) at night - until the early hours - our room overlooked the high street, other rooms may be quieter. Very steep and quite narrow stairs to get to room. Couldnt get TV to work.

Spotless room tasteful decor, staff really helpful . Able to eat outside and such an accommodating over dietary requirements. Carpark on premises
Very little

It was clean and I can imagine on a sunny day, the back garden area can be amazing.
The barman when we arrived wasn't the most welcoming. We said we had a room booked and although a little early, he looked uninterested.
Later in the evening the 2 girls behind the bar were more interested in faffing than serving.
The owners were more interested in the private party they were attempting to cater for, than the guests they had staying. We eventually ate at the local 'spoons' up the road. And the attempt of humour for a cocktail, what if a member of the older generation asked what it meant. Tacky!
Breakfast, a member of staff had gone home and taken the key to the bar and breakfast room, leaving the guests wondering what was going on. Eventually served a coffee after asking. The guy that eventually took breakfast orders in fairness, did as much as he could, and the food was nice.
Just seems very disorganised, and as the saying goes, 'too many chiefs and not enough Indians,
The guy who made the breakfast was possibly the owner. Friendly advice. Sort the staff out. They are not in the right trade for hospitality and are doing you no favours for what could be a fantastic venue.

Good price, comfy bed, lovely food and friendly caring staff
At times there were not so pleasant odours in the air, maybe due to the historic build and nearby river.

We only stayed one night so this review is limited. This is a pub in a very old and quaint building which makes it a very interesting place to stay and Okehampton is a pleasant and interesting town. We stayed on a Saturday night so there was music in the bar until quite late - despite this we were not disturbed in our room by the noise which is a bonus for staying in a pub! The room was comfortable and the en suite fine.
We would, however, make special mention of Tina who was marvellous. She was always very busy but still made time to make us very welcome and chat to us whilst attending to a very busy bar. Also despite looking after the bar until late, there she was all smiling serving all the B&B customers at breakfast - I asked her if she was a robot to have such stamina!!
A very minor quibble - the car park behind the pub was not easy to find and was rough & unpaved. In wet weather very wet & puddly underfoot

The staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and the surroundings for it were comfortable. The ground floor areas of the hotel were reasonably smart, with options for sitting indoors or out. We ate in the hotel bar in the evening and found the food was well cooked and well presented. The room had a smart modern bathroom. We had been a bit concerned about road noise, but this didn't prove a problem.
Being an older building some parts of its decor were rather jaded, especially where the roof appeared to have leaked at some point in the past. Shortly after we had rung to book a table and confirmed that we were staying, we were surprised to received an e-mail asking us to confirm that we would be taking up our booking. The evening menu, whilst reasonable, did not have anything on it that was different enough from typical pub menus to tempt us to eat in for a second time.

The Fountains is an old coaching Inn situated next to a picturesque river in the centre of Okehampton, a short walk from shops, amenities and Dartmoor National Park. Large carpark away the road, and friendly helpful staff.
A very minor niggle, a full length mirror would be great, otherwise everything in the bedroom was spot on. great fluffy towels, very comfortable bed

Stayed at the Fountain Inn while doing the Devon Coast to Coast bike ride. Would recommend for fellow cyclists, as there is bike storage and the rooms are comfortable and reasonably priced. Thanks very much to the team for looking after us.
