I felt welcome - the breakfast was fine - staff friendly and helpful - what more does one need.

The location was great as I was catching up with a relative in Swavesey. The breakfast was very nice and my room was very comfortable and clean with a nice functional bathroom.
I gather that Covid had a very detrimental effect on this Hotel/Pub. I decided to stay in a quaint pub because I wanted to have the 'local pub' experience and chat to locals. However, I arrived on a Tuesday evening and the pub and restaurant were closed. On the Wednesday evening I had a delicious meal in the restaurant with approx.12 businessmen at other tables ie there were no locals at the bar (no one was at the bar). Apart from this the stay was very pleasant.

The Golden Ball an 18 Century Thatched Inn located in Boxworth a small village South Cambridge under the diocese of Ely notated in the Doomsday Book 1086. Stephen (Chef) and Sarah (Front House) made us feel welcome and wished us a pleasant stay. The Accommodation annex situated adjacent to the Inn rather reminiscent of a 1970s motel the décor rather reflected this. Room 2 was clean as were the bed linen and towels, the bed was comfortable as was the overnight stop.
This establishment is seriously entrenched in the seventy's vibe - a black forest gateaux short of the "steak bar" menu of a prawn cocktail and slap-up steak dinner! This quaint thatched public house desperately requires a complete refurbishment a new identity for the 21st century sophisticated traveller of today to enjoy and return to on there journeys. Just a clean stopover with Sarah the village gossip demanding to know all your business the busy body's great desire to acquire in impertinence (purporting to be friendly) and in contrast to Stephen the reluctant chef in deep need for retirement!

Breakfast was excellent. The room was great and very quiet. This is a great option for visiting Cambridge as it’s about a 20 minute drive away.
The pub was closed for dinner when we were there which was disappointing. However that was our fault as we should have checked. The pub is lovely as we had breakfast there, and the staff were all great.

The location was perfect for visiting local sights. We stopped off at IWM Duxford on the way and then visited Cambridge, Ely and some RSPB reserves from The Golden Ball. Everyone at the hotel was so welcoming and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay special. The food was brilliant and we decided to have evening meals there as so good. Really recommend and so glad we stayed there.

Warm welcome and the location was good for us. Our rooms were spotlessly clean. The food was classic pub food, tasty and fresh.
The rooms were cold when we arrived and took quite a long time to warm up, but otherwise, we have no complaints.

Excellent food, friendly staff and a great stay. Comfy bed too.

Excellent country pub, with delicious food, friendly and helpful staff, and very comfortable rooms.
Struggling to find anything that could be improved on, I enjoyed the stay so much.

Great hosts, lovely relaxed environment and an absolute gem of a hotel that's so close to main links but so quiet! If we come up near again will 100% book again! Love the kit kat in the room, was a great treat 👌
Booking in after 4pm but we asked and they let us in early. Nothing was too much trouble!
My partner said he found it annoying only one side had the light switches so had to keep asking me but other from that no faults and great value for money.

I was driving to Scotland from London so this was a great jumping off point for the long drive North. The hotel is very nice and the staff very nice and friendly. I will use it again the next time I drive up.
Everything I needed was there and so I have no complaints

Location perfect for our house hunting expedition
Breakfast was of a high standard and was delicious
Owners were very friendly
Hotel is a little tired looking which is probably down to backlash of Covid

Food, atmosphere, staff friendliness.
Small room, the walls between rooms are paper thin and you can hear everything from snoring, farting, plugs being switched and the loo flushing. Extremely poor night's sleep.

We were travelling to Stansted airport and felt that this would be the perfect overnight stop close to Cambridge. We visited Cambridge but note that this is a 20 minute drive away.
We discovered beautiful gardens, a peaceful village and great service! We had dinner in the evening and thank Amanda for her wonderful and friendly service.
Breakfast was great and attentive service one again. Such friendly, helpful staff and delicious food.
The decor of the room felt a little tired and perhaps is in need of an update but that was a minor issue. Overall we had a very good experience!
