Thought it was a proper hotel with a reception desk or the like but had to find way in semi darkness to a kitchen, where it felt like an interruption to someone’s dinner.
Many flights of stairs through many doorways and halls. Heater wasn’t worth turning on, as it was only about 30cms high and though thermostatically controlled, kept turning off, yet the room was not warm and it was on the highest setting. A number of lights didn’t work. There was also a horrible smell along the staircases and halls. Not very inviting. Limited parking at back of a church 200 metres away.
Breakfast was the one highlight.

We loved the fact that the Waverly is not a faceless corporate satellite, but hands-on managed by a lovely and incredibly hard-working proprietress named Denise. Clean room, wonderful breakfast.

Clean and tidy and very helpful, kind polite owner.

It took me 20 minutes to find someone to get checked in. I wasn’t even checked in, just given the keys to the last room. At first glance the room was a bit musty and dated but fine enough. Fast forward an hour later- I got in late and was exhausted and starving- then I see a sign that eating isn’t allowed in the rooms. Just not allowed? Meanwhile I get greeted with the biggest spider I’ve ever seen in my life, the accent pillows had huge stains, and not the outside, but the inside of BOTH beds had a ton of HAIR MADE INTO THEM. A hair or two happens, I accept that, people are human and they make the beds. This was disgusting. I slept on top of the covers and got the worst nights sleep.

Lovely hotel right in centre of Nairn ,close to shops and restaurants, the lady that owns hotel goes beyond with her hosting lovely and friendly and the breakfast was awesome, travelling on business so was only here one night but I will stay here again ,fantastic comfortable bed also .highly recommended.

We arrived about 8.30pm. The lady on reception was on the phone and then trying to check us in. There was a large glass panel above the door that kept the room very light. There were no teaspoons. Only 1 bath towel each. The toilet was blocked in the morning so i had to retrieve a toilet brush from along the corridor. We went to the dining room at 7.30 as advertised for breakfast, half of the things were laid out, i then had to try and find someone to bring extra items. 10 mins later a lady appeared and was amazed that we would want breakfast at 7.30..as it was not ready we had to leave and buy our breakfast elsewhere. Very much overpriced, old building and not greatly managed!

There was no hot water, mattresses were old and uncomfortable, windows rattled all night. Mentioned that their was no hot water and was told to wait till 0630 in the morning. Really don't think you should have to wait for hot water, we waited and still none. The staff didn't want to acknowledge that their could have been an issue. Just made a comment that was insulting to Aussies.

Positive: Excellent location close to station and town centre. Close to many food outlets. Breakfast nicely served.
Negative: No obvious reception area - I walked in and around and then out wondering if there was another entrance. I then rang and met the staff member in a corridor to get my key. Bed mattress needs changing - right side just a 'hole' to sink into. No hot water in shower - waited 10 minutes and still only got cool.

See a few bad reviews of this place but i had no issues at all. I wasnt expecting the Ritz.
What I did get was great value for money compared to other hotels in the area at half the price, a warm welcome from the owner and a nice chat, a lovely big and clean room with a comfy bed and nice fluffy clean towels.
Breakfast was top notch.
I would recommend this place.

re Waverley Hotel. Nairn
We arrived at the property after 150 mile journey through beautiful Scottish scenery.
The receptionist wasn't about and shouted down to my wife that she would be with her shortly. My wife was given a key to view the room and in shock came back to be to view it also.
The room was very scruffy with a worn dirty grey carpet that one's shoes stuck to while walking. The furniture was 1960s vintage and very tatty. Included were two old rickety chairs with grimy cushions. Probably the most gross and revolting was the light coloured padded headboard with black marks outlining where greasy sweaty heads had made contact. The en-suite was manly modern. The smell in the room effected our nasal membranes and I have been wheezed since and my wife has felt sick.
Neither of us could stay in what looked like a Doss house.
We informed the lady that we couldn't stay because of the state of the room
We couldn't find accommodation in the area this busy August weekend. As such we had no other choice to turn round and drive the 150 miles home.

Dirty. Woman managing place is rude and nasty.

It started out bad and only got worse. We showed up for check-in around 5:30 pm and, after climbing two flights of stairs, found nobody around for reception. After waiting well over 10 minutes, a woman showed up to give us our key. When, after another two flights of stairs, we got to our room, the initial look of the room was promising. The wallpaper and bedding looked lovely. The bathroom, not so much; the toilet had a pubic hair on the seat and the shower had hair in it. I was disappointed and immediately sent a message to the property cancelling my second night that I had booked. Had I not been exhausted from the long drive from Skye (and the many steps), I would have packed up and left that night. There was no "restaurant" as advertised, so we left to find dinner and enjoy Nairn Beach. At bedtime, I noticed there was a window above the room door that prevented a totally dark room. Next morning, bright and early, we went to check out. I explained to the same woman who gave us the room key the previous evening that I had cancelled my second night, not because of the many stairs, but because of the dirty bathroom. The woman asked to see pictures, which I had taken, and then said she personally cleaned all the rooms herself and those hairs were not there before I got the room, accusing me of planting them. I, of course, took offense to this and we "had words." I am a nice person and rarely confront people, but this was ridiculous. I would definitely not recommend this place.

Property a bitt iffy looking when we arrived. Only seemed to be one member of staff, although very helpful. Bit dated but room was clean. Breakfast made fresh and was tasty

Pleasant lady, however room was not ready at check in.
Window wouldn't shut, noisy due to seagulls.
Comfy bed and good breakfast.
As a recommendation - would stay one night but not 2!

Poor service. No toilet paper in room. Not enough towels. Grumpy hostess. Breakfast ok. More a B&B than a hotel. Tired and run-down place but central location. Heavily overpriced.

Very old fashioned, beware of all the stairs. At breakfast there was only one person serving, it took over an hour to get an inedible meal . On one morning I asked for crispy bacon it eventually arrived it was so hard and dry that it could be broken rather than cut. The next day I asked for bacon and egg again but this time it arrived barely cooked and the egg was disgusting. The only redeeming feature was that the room was clean.

Property was very dated but bedroom was spotless and comfortable breakfast was good cooked from scratch but because the lady was running the hotel herself you had a long wait to get it maybe another staff member would be helpful you could sit up to at least 20mts before anything came where normally you would have tea and toast first while waiting for your breakfast but nice when it eventually came

The Hotel is located on the main street with limited parking spaces. You can park along the side streets. No bar or evening meals but there are plenty in the area. Clean bedding and room but lack of heating.

Denise was incredibly rude. Booked via expedia 2 separate rooms. 1 suite, 1 double as this is what they had available. Completed the online pre check in information stating times and all seemed to be going very well until we arrived. The property is up stairs which isnt in issue but upon walking upstairs no clear reception area and instead Denise came out with a book asking if we had a booking under the name Mackintosh - we had two under different names, neither mackintosh. Upon given our names there was a huff and a sigh from Denise and then said well i only have one of the names booked in and in her words this happens all the time. The name she had was mine and this should have been for the suite - she said no, you have a double and thats all she had left which is not suitable really for two travelling 30 males who had been driving for over 9 hours that day. When questioned about why the suite wasnt available, her response was "you only paid a hundred quid" which is the same as the double as if this was our error and we should just take what she had.
She continued to moan about the website being terrible, this happening all the time and not her fault or problem and she is taking to responsibility. As a host, a terrible attitude to have towards paying guests. When asked how to get a refund, she became even more rude even unwilling to give her name. Saying we should phone "them" and they will know who she is.
Strongly urge to avoid at all costs!

Turned up to the hotel to find they apparently didn't have my booking, had no rooms available and were emphatic about taking 'no responsibility' on what would clearly be a mix up in part from their side.

Would have given 5 stars but on arrival found we had to use a lot of stairs , my fault for not asking before hand. Location was excellent. Rooms clean and comfortable. Denise ( owner) was very pleasant and friendly.

Last minute booking after our planned B&B cancelled. Walk up hotel, old school, classic style hotel with high ceilings. The owner, Mrs Bruno, is a gem, a real character. Free off street parking just down the street is a plus. Arrived nervous, left charmed.

We had to ask about the parking and we had to park behind the church. There was limited dining we had to eat elsewhere. The continental breakfast was limited but the poached eggs on toast was good, the bar wasn't open. It took a while for the hot water to come through the shower. It needs to be updated but overall the stay was good.

We had a lovely stay at the Waverley hotel, Denise was very attentive, the room was spotless, as was the dinning area.
We had a lovely breakfast this morning all prepared freshly by Denise.
Would definitely stay again and would recommend.

I did look around the area. It seemed to be an older part of town. I was just there over night.
The lady that looked after me during my arrival and breakfast was terrific. It was a pleasure to talk with her. She brought me a delicious breakfast and my eggs were just the way I like them.

Our stay was pleasant overall. Hotel owner is lovely and very kind. Breakfast was great.

Well the bed was comfy!!! Never saw anybody. Keys left on a shelf. Room 6 - upstairs. No lights and no direction to room numbers. No hot water for the shower in the morning. Choice of sugar and milk for a hot drink. I left the key on the same shelf.
