We chose Hotel Casa Tago due to its proximity to the airport. The family who runs the hotel are very nice and the security seemed sound. The room was basic and fulfilled our needs for a night.

This was our 4th visit to Costa Rica. We love this country. Prevously our experiences with the hotels were always positive. However, this hotel was probably the worst one i ever stayed in. I only gave it 2 stars because the staff was friendly and helpful. Otherwise it was a disaster. The room smelled terrible and the windows wouldn't open. The neighborhood is unsafe to say the least. Our bathroom door somehow got locked from inside and we couldn't use it till morning
In the morning a hotel employee came with a hammer and a huge knife and broke open the door. Overall, its shabby, dirty and uncomfortable. Would not recommend to anybody.

The details were very misleading. Very unsafe neighborhood. Can’t leave and go as you please as two gates have to be opened up by front desk person who was sleeping everything I wanted to leave. No bathroom. No AC. Would never recommend.

Very helpful, making sure I was comfortable. Friendly and welcoming even at the late hour that I arrived.

Okay for a cheap, brief stay near the airport. Noisy neighborhood, but that’s probably true throughout Alajuela. No air conditioning.

Good quiet location close to Central Park with many restaurants. Good beds, tv and big bathroom. Common areas very nice. Staff very helpful, best hotel I've stayed at in Alajuela over 10 visits. Peaceful energy due to helpful owners and staff. Excellent rest stop before our next morning flight.

I was really disappointed with this hotel. My room was not much bigger than the bed, with a window the size of a small pizza box so it was very stuffy. The bed had only one sheet - no blanket - and the bedside lamp didn't work. The shared bathroom was dirty and had no soap.
I partly chose this hotel because it claimed to have parking and a good breakfast. I arrived at night and there were no parking spaces left, so was instructed to drive to a parking garage -I had to walk 2 blocks back to the hotel by myself at night.
The breakfast was meager - three tiny pieces of fruit and a grilled ham and cheese sandwich.
I have never written a bad review, but I can't let this experience pass. I definitely do not recommend Casa Tago.

They sent me a msg saying to get a orange taxi from the airport but pay less than 8$ usd. None of these taxis wanted to take me and so I had to pay $20 usd just to go. They didn’t even provide me an address so I had to find it myself. Room is just bad, the bed is terrible and its not very clean.

Our room didn’t have any windows we could open. Only a fan to stir up stale air.
Staff friendly and helpful.

Casa Tago provided exactly what I needed ... clean bed near airport ($8 taxi, or $5 Uber to/from SJO). The included breakfast was ample and pleasant. Didn't try the pool, but it looked refreshing. Great friendly/family-like staff. Shared bathroom in the hall.

Amazing staff, extremely helpful staff. property as advertised. Parking was difficult.

Cheap and filriendly. Coming in and out reoues someone to open the front door / gate Everytime you want to exit premise which is inconvenient.

We stayed 1 night at Casa Tago Hotel before continuing with out trip the next day.
The host of the hotel was very helpful and provided valuable insights regarding which taxis to take from SJO airport and offered help in finding a suitable and reliable transportation for the rest of our trip.
The rooms are not very spacious (no closet), but very tidy and are equipped with a wall-mounted fan (no a/c) and come with a private bathroom with a shower. The beds are cozy and have the right size for 2 adults.

Easy check-in; clean and comfortable room for an overnight stay. Breakfast was delicious. Close proximity to the airport.

Conveniently close to the airport with straightforward but comfortable room with en suite although the decor was a little tired. Pool area and courtyard was a great addition and the breakfast was the best we had in Costa Rica

The property is very secure. The front desk staff is friendly and extremely helpful. Accommodations are basic but impeccably clean. A very comfortable stay. I would choose Casa Taga again especially when flying out from SJO

El patio is only a couple of blocks away and has several restaurants of great value. Also MacDonalds and liquor store close by

Decent stay right near the airport. They offer a good breakfast and late check in. The price is very reasonable. I had a basic room with a shared bath. Everything was clean. Beware there are many steps up/ down the hallway to/ from the bath. The pool is very small but ok for a quick jump to wake up or cool off.

Tried to email about a late check-in a day before the arrival, never received a message back.
Then tried to call about a late check in after landing at the airport, but the phone number didn't work.
A representative from the car rental company tried to call as well and had the same result.
When we arrived at the location, there was no one there to check us in, and no private parking as was advertised.
We ended up going to another hotel and were immediately checked in.
Online, this location is listed as a retirement community, and not as a hotel.
Overall, the experience was very confusing and awful. I hope they can figure it out.
Very disappointing.
