About this cottage rental
Salterns Cottage .
Originally a small barn built in the 1930s this cottage has been gradually extended to provide a dining room, kitchen and small conservatory and provides accommodation for upto 4 persons in two bedrooms. Located in the pretty coastal market town of Lymington bordering the New Forest National Park on one side and the shores of the Solent on the other, the cottage is some 400 metres from the sea, marinas and coastal walks around the sea wall which stretches as far as Keyhaven and yet is only ten minutes walk away from the High Street, it's shops, restaurants ,pubs and busy Saturday Market. There is plenty to do and watch without getting into a car, particularly of interest to dog owners and cyclists who can just walk or ride out onto the sea wall and through fields and marshland. A short car ride ,however, will take you out into the Forest with it's walks , horse riding facilities and the beaches at Highcliffe and Milton on Sea. For Youngsters in the summer there's also the revamped sea water baths with swimming, inflateable fun, kayaking, paddle boarding etc just at the end of the road.
Access to the cottage is gained via a short gravel drive (so it's quiet) off Stanley Road to a parking area in front of the cottage. Entrance via the conservatory leads into the living room with a sofa and two armchairs , open fire place, television, DVD player and WIFI access. On then to the dining room with seating for six and the kitchen and outside to a sunny (hopefully) paved garden with chairs, table , sun shade and Barbeque. A short hallway leads to a cloakroom then upstairs to a landing with mirrored wardrobe, Bedroom 1 with double bed , chest of drawers and bedside chests , bedroom 2 with two single beds, chest of drawers and bedside chests. Finally a bathroom with bath , WC and basin an electric shower and further shower off the mains at the tap end.
The parking area can accommodate one or two cars , there is further parking on the road immediately outside the drive on Stanley Road. The cottage is situated close to the owners house and oak framed garages which can provide shelter for bicycles. The kitchen is fully equipped including washing machine, fridge/freezer, dishwasher etc as you would expect. Hairdryer in bathroom. Guests are requested to provide their own towels otherwise heating, electricity ,linen, WIFI are all included. Logs and kindling are provided for one or two burns but otherwise supplies can be obtained from local garages. Changeover dates Friday 4pm until following Friday 10am. As described - very quiet, set back from road (that was quiet anyway), secure back garden (pets), great communication. The perfect base for the area with plenty of walks, pubs and other things to do. Recommend - The Chequers

Very lovely house in a lovely area!

Property was tired and not as shown. Not clean. We had light bulbs that didn’t work, chipped crockery, a small tv with a router that kept the screen image blinking throughout programmes and then to cap it all a blocked sink in the downstairs toilet. We left before the end of our stay. Would never go back.

Had everything - fully equipped kitchen, dining table for 6, and nice terrace. Only thing missing was better weather!

Spacious accommodation suited most of our needs could do with more seating in lounge and a bit of updating great owner very helpful.

The property was very clean, very well equipped with all amenities and services, including washing machine and dishwasher which made the stay easy and enjoyable. It was easy to get around, visiting all the attractions in the area including a great day trip to the Isle of Wight. Lots of great pubs with good food.

Saltings is tucked away in a smart residential area with good parking directly outside cottage. There are no sea views but the cottage is surrounded by an attractive little garden with trees and shrubs and Solent 2 mins walk away. Clean and well equipped - comfy beds, great shower, roomy kitchen. The owner, David was on-hand, friendly and helpful.

Very central to town and marina. Lovely beaches only 10 min drive. Dog friendly pubs and cafés. David, host, very friendly and on hand if you need anything. Would go back.

David is a great host and lives next door. The cottage is cental, yet quiet and secluded. It’s in walking distance to shops and the marshes/ harbour. Another big plus is the garden where we had all our meals. The bed in the master‘s bedroom is comfortable, neither too soft nor too hard. The matrasses in the twin bed room are harder. When something is missing, David is quick to respond. So much to see and do in the region and the microclimate makes the place milder and sunnier than many other places.

Great Christmas at the Salterns Cottage, didn’t want to leave, have already booked to go back!
The cottage is situated at the end of a narrow gravel driveway where the owners house is also located. The driveway can be easily missed from the main residential road but if you look for house 29 it’s next to that. You enter the cottage straight into the conservatory where there is a small sofa and tall coat hook stand.
You then enter glass doors into the living room. The living room seemed slightly smaller than the photos but it is very cosy. We didn’t use the open fire as we had Christmas decorations around it. There is a cosy two seater sofa and the best , in my opinion, armchair ever! If you like deep set soft wide comfy armchairs then this is for you! I actually labelled it as “My chair” !
To the left of the living room is the entrance into small hallway with a WC and under stairs cupboard with clothes airer, Henry Hoover dusters, polish etc. To the right is the entrance to the kitchen diner which was far bigger than I expected! The main room is the dining room part where there is a huge dining table with 6 chairs and two lovely dressers.
You do need to be careful entering the kitchen as there is a small step up which can be overlooked . The kitchen/diner has a long shelf in the kitchen where you can put stuff on and pass through to the dining room part. Kitchen is decent size with dishwasher, washing machine , cleaning products and door to spacious garden. lots of crockery and cupboards. The fridge freezer is one of the ones that the freezer is a smaller separate one on top of the main fridge but you can still fit quite a bit in. We had a bag of ice in there as well as lots of stuff for Christmas for 3 of us.
The bedrooms are spacious however we did find the double bed in the main bedroom rather small as we are used to a king size and the room could easily accommodate a King or Superking.
The bathroom is lovely with shaver plugs and the shower has both a regular shower lead with head but also a big monsoon/rain shower head fixed above if you want to switch between the two. Great big Mark Hill hairdryer with brush. not a cheap little travel one. cottage heats up quickly, lots of radiators.
Great area not far to the New Forest , 20 min drive, and a nice little walk into the town. Foodwise can highly recommend the Ship Inn for Cocktails also! We have two cockapoos and cottage was great for them and area. Already booking to go back! David is a great host and quick to answer any questions. Can’t wait to be back in “My” Chair!

Great location. Helpful host.
A good week despite very mixed weather. The cottage is well located, very quiet and surprisingly spacious. With a little more TLC and investment it could be very special. David the host was friendly and helpful too.

Needs some TLC, could be so much better then it is at moment.
Needs a good clean, and now looks tired. ivy growing in through a window, cob webs with dust on. light shades that have seen better days. needs some money spending on it. owner was a nice enough bloke, and did apologise.

Super week stay!
A lovely hidden gem of a property 10 mins walk into Lymington and 5 mins walk from the harbour. Our Range Rover made it up the little driveway with no prob! David was a super host, kindly providing wine and milk and even provided us with an extra crabbing net so I could beat my boys! Our dog Luna loved the stay too.
Bed could be a touch bigger , King size would hv been awesome and good fit in the room, lots of nice pubs around which David kindly wrote us a list. The chequers was our fave!
We walked to Hurst Castle along coastal path from house. Took all day but what a walk there and back! A must do.
Isle of Wight ferry 5 min drive from house ..so worth the ferry over for the day,
Mudeford (our go to fave beach ) is only 18 mins in car and dog friendly all year plus Milton beach also super stop too.
Thanks David for super week..weather stayed great for us which was a massive bonus 👍

Comfortable but in need of some TLC
We’ve just returned from our weeks stay at Salters Cottage. The description and photos published on the site are an accurate reflection of the property and the owner David is very friendly and responded to any questions very quickly.
We were disappointed with the general up keep of the cottage and felt it needed some attention in places, which we discussed with David.
The approach to the cottage isn’t the best. The entrance down the drive was snug for a 4x4, (Discovery) and we felt the garden and outside areas was in need of some attention, weeds removed and general maintenance/up keep to the exterior of the property and gardens.
The location was perfect and situated between two lovely pubs and a very short walk into lymington and the surrounding area.

Excellent Property
We stayed at Salterns Cottage at beginning of September 2020. This is an excellent property in good location. Just 10 mins from High St and to drive anywhere in the New Forest area isn't far. The cottage felt very homely and is very well equipped. WE met the owner David and he is very friendly, on arrival we had milk and a bottle of wine in the fridge, also a vase of fresh flowers in lounge which made us both feel really welcome. Excellent shower/bath and bed is really comfortable. We would like to come back again and highly recommend this property .Parking for car is off the road , outside the property down a short drive off of the road.

Fabulous Vacation
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Salterns Cottage. David was more than happy to drop in to help with the wifi on our arrival, but we didn't need any further help from him, although he was always very friendly when we saw him. He also dropped by to say goodbye when we were due to leave, which was appreciated.
The cottage was perfect, quiet, comfortable and the location was great. David has told me of his intention to refit the bathroom & decorate, so it will even improve, making it highly likely that we'll look to return in the future. I have no reservation in recommending The Cottage to anyone else, it would be a pleasure!

Enjoyable stay
Very nice cottage, peaceful location close to the town center and the sea. 10 minutes to ferry by car if you fancy a day trip to the Isle of Wight. Very enjoyable stay, cottage clean and tidy with everything you need. David is friendly and very helpful if you have any queries. I wouldn't hesitate to come back again in the future, and would recommend it to friends and family.

Tired cottage
This property looked lovely on line and
The location was excellent within easy walking distance of the harbour.
The cottage was so tired. It hadn’t been painted or updated for years.
The shower didn’t work but had a hand held over the taps.
The ceiling was black with condensation.
The kitchen sink was so dated. The tap was difficult to turn on.
The garden was so overgrown we didn’t even want to go out there.
It is the worst cottage I have rented. It was supposed to be a lovely few days away for my partner who hadn’t been well.
The paintwork in all rooms just wasn’t good. It wasn’t inviting at all

Great Location - relaxing peaceful cottage just what we needed.

Lymington stay
Overall very enjoyable stay, the only thing I would comment on would be that the property could do with a bit of redecorating here and there. Bit apart from that excellent!!

Lovely Lymington
Location of cottage is good, Lymington is a lovely place and handy for a trip to Isle of Wight, Hurst Castle, Bournemouth etc. Cottage had what we needed for a week. Possibly a little bit of TLC but comfy beds which always helps when on holiday.

Lovely cottage
This cottage is perfect for your stay in lymington. Tucked away in a really quite spot, but walking distance to everything. David is a very helpful host, even offering to pick up shopping as we had no car. Can only recommend it.

MISS AT ALL COSTS
To say were are disappointed would be an understatement. Issues with cleanliness, overall poor state of repair, damp, mould, light fittings hanging from walls and glass doors that were paper thin and most dangerous for children and pets alike. We left the following day and are yet to receive a full refund.

We had a fantastic holiday in Salterns Cottage and would highly recommend it as a great base.
Lovely secluded cosy cottage. It suited us, we were able to bbq most nights and the enclosed space was brilliant for our dog. Very quiet at night - we slept really well! It’s in a great location, loads to do in the area. We hope to return very soon.

Spacious cottage in a lovely location but could do with some tender loving care to reach five stars
We had a wonderful week in a roomy and well equiped cottage in a nice location. The owner was very welcoming and obliging. Wonderful weather helped as well.

Lovely Cottage and very close to centre of town.
We had a great welcome from David and he went out of his way to ensure we had a good
stay. Unfortunately the only thing he couldn't sort out was the weather, but we don't hold it against him.
The Cottage had all of the facilities of a home from home, warm, comfortable and clean.

Spacious, homely cottage everything you need provided. Lovely area with plenty of walking
The cottage was a good size with everything we needed. The owner was next door but we didn't get in each others way but he was there if we needed anything. Lots of walking and a chance to see a cousin not seen for 50 years. Would recommend.
