The striking Damflask, Agden, Dale Dike, and Ladybower dams make for an interesting afternoon stroll, and the charming village of Hathersage—said to have served as the model for Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre—is also close by and has a variety of shops, pubs, and hospitable restaurants as well as an outdoor lido. Stately homes like Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Hardwick Hall are just a few of the many to see; the rest of the Peak District and the ancient town of Bakewell are also easily accessible.
