About this house rental
A traditional house with a modern twist! Just a short walk via the quick ferries to Dartmouth.
This delightful two bed-roomed (double + king), two en-suite maisonette has been turned upside down making the most of the stunning views of the River Dart, including the Naval College and marina.
A stunning, sunny balcony off the kitchen has wide-reaching views of the estuary, Naval College and up river. Recline on the chairs and watch boats, rowers, naval exercises, steam trains and wildlife (even basking seals).
Parking is *included in the price* at the nearby Marina (two weeks max), a short walk away. There's a useful drop-off area at the end of Wood Lane. The large Marina car park has electric car charging points.
Bedroom One (Double): You can enjoy views of the river without even getting out of bed. The stone tiled en-suite includes a shower, toilet, basin and heated towel rail.
Bedroom Two (King): Benefits from a large en-suite with vaulted ceiling which includes a bath, separate shower cubicle, toilet, basin and heated towel rail. Off this bathroom is a useful utility room with washer/dryer.
Both bedrooms enjoy amazing river views, have plenty of fitted wardrobe and drawer space with handmade bedside tables, dressing tables, long mirrors and hair dryers. The comfortable beds are made-up with new pressed-luxury white linen and sumptuous 'Dorma' pillows.
Upstairs you will find the fully equipped kitchen/diner with seating for 4 plus a handmade church pew. Everything you would expect to find in a kitchen including a dishwasher, microwave, fan oven and induction hob.
The lounge has two, two-seater sofas and a recliner chair, Digital HD TV with Amazon Prime, SEGA games console, books, games, maps & charts.
All rooms offer spectacular views and there is always something to watch on the water - we even provide binoculars!
Along with the balcony, outside Chapel House there is a small sunny courtyard with table and chairs.
Chapel House has recently undergone full refurbishment.
Fast fibre broadband and WiFi throughout with an excellent mobile phone signal.
Towels are not included (except tea towels & bath mats). Pressed luxury bed linen is provided on comfortable made-up beds.
The steep internal staircase makes it unsuitable for small children and toddlers (there is a good handrail for everyone else!).
Opposite Dartmouth, Kingswear is a friendly all year-round village with the kind of charm that makes you feel as though you’re really in Devon. There are ferries over the river every 5-10 mins running until late.
Chapel House holiday cottage is just a few minutes walk to Kingswear’s two excellent pubs, general store/off-licence, post office, bistro, two cafés, steam railway station, bus stops (to Brixham & wider Torbay) and the ferries. Kingswear lies right on the South West Coast Path near to Devon’s beautiful family friendly Blue Flag beaches.
Please be aware the property is situated on a narrow lane (signposted as 6"6) and may not be accessible for some cars. Best to approach up the lane by foot, a short (approx. 25 meters) but steep hill. There is a drop-off point at the end of the lane and the Marina parking is a short walk away.
Please get in touch if you need any advice or tips on places to visit, walks (we're right on the South West Coast path), pubs & restaurants etc.

Great return visit! Views from lounge, dining area and balcony are stunning. Great to have en-suites to both bedrooms too. The attention to detail on cleanliness wasn’t as great as my first visit though. There were about a dozen dirty glasses, cups and plates, so I had to run everything through dishwasher on arrival and as I pulled back douvet the sheets had lumps of dirt on them. Other than that the place was v clean. I’m sure these can be resolved swiftly to resume usual great standard.

We had a very enjoyable stay in Chapel House. The house is a great place to relax and take in the wonderful views over the river. It is well equipped with comfortable beds & sofas. There are some great walks from the house with Dartmouth just a short ferry ride away. Very good breakfasts available 2 mins down the road at Ebb & Flow. Netflix was an added bonus.

Great property. Comfortable, with good facilities. Fabulous views day & night. Good location for sightseeing too. Would definitely recommend.
If there’s one minor thing I’d suggest… emphasise that the stairs are steep in the description & the rope handrail could do with replacing as it’s jolly grubby & not v hygienic. Thanks for a fabulous stay!

We had a lovely week in Chapel House.
It is in a great location, and the views are stunning whatever the weather .
We enjoyed have coffee in Dartmouth , taking the ferry across the Dart .
Did the round robin and before we knew the week was over.
Chapel House is a great place to stay

This is a well appointed property in a peaceful location. It is as described, having beautiful views from every room in the house and all the rooms are clean and comfortable.
It is set in a good location for exploring Dartmouth with ferries always available to take you there. You can find plenty of things to do and to suit all tastes. We ventured up to Dartmoor as well as to more local places.
Just one thing to note . Chapel House is is set on a very steep hill so if you have mobility problems it might not be suitable.
I could say a lot more about about how lovely Chapel House and it's location are but suffice it to say we had a very enjoyable holiday

Wonderful house. Fully equipped with all that you would require for your stay, with the most incredible view over the river.
The perfect base for exploring the area. So pleased that we chose to stay in Kingswear. Highly recommended, and look forward to returning to Chapel House again in the not too distant future!

A lovely property, with fantastic view over the river towards Dartmouth.
The hill to the cottage is quite steep and so are the stairs inside the property, but well worth it.

A lovely relaxing week in Chapel House overlooking the amazing views of The River Dart. We enjoyed sitting on the veranda with either a coffee or wine it was so peaceful! We had amazing coastal walks and I think we’re certainly a bit fitter than when we arrived!! Colin was a great host and replied to any queries we had. We are so pleased we found this little gem well worth the visit!

Spotless with great views across to Dartmouth and over the Marina. Very well equiped throughout and with two comfortable bedrooms both having en suite's it is perfect for two couples sharing. Lots of walking and great places to eat in Dartmouth, which does involve a short ferry ride but thats part of the fun. Would definitely return.

What a superb place!
There is nothing that I could say that would have improved our trip (well, apart from being able to be stay longer that is!) The cottage is faultness; its location superb (albeit up a very steep short hill) and with a view to die for!! Colin was a wonderful host; and responded to messages very promptly, right throughout the booking process and during our stay. Would highly recommend and we'll definitely go back again.

First Class Stay
We stayed for a week in May 2022 and will be returning.
The property was great for a couple, two couples or two adults and two children, with having two large en-suite bedrooms this made it easy. The property was in the best location and the views where fantastic overlooking the Marina and Dartmouth. Colin's interaction and information before going was second to none and the property was well presented and clean. We enjoyed taking the lower ferry or passenger ferry daily to Dartmouth for breakfast. 1st class stay and will be re-booking!!

excellent modernised property
though not very attractive on the outside, this house was of a very high standard inside.. all equipment worked efficiently though we did not locate the DVD player. Access was difficult, including unloading of a number of items of luggage.

Lovely property in a great location.
We loved this cottage. It is in a stunning location, with beautiful views across the Dart estuary, and easy access to Dartmouth and coast path walks. The cottage itself is comfortable and very well equipped, and Colin was a very helpful host. We hope to visit again.

Wonderful views
This is a lovely house with great views across to Dartmouth. The lower ferry is a few minutes walk away and we hardly needed our car after we arrived as there was plenty to do in and around Dartmouth and Kingswear. There was no problem getting the car parked after the first night when we arrived late on the middle day of the Regatta. Even then we managed to move into the Marina car park after the evening fireworks had finished.
We will recommend the house to family and friends :-)

Wonderful cottage and location
We had a wonderful stay at Chapel House. From the moment of booking, Colin made us feel very welcome and communication was great.
The house itself is in a great location just a few minutes walk from the Kingswear Ferry, the steam train station, a small post office, cafe and a couple of pubs.
We enjoyed a couple of great dinners at the Steam Packet Inn- booking definitely recommended!
Chapel House was a fabulous property. It was spotlessly clean, quiet, nice and dark at night, with comfortable beds and hot, powerful showers. It has been furnished really nicely with a nautical theme giving it character. And we loved having lots of books, games and maps as well as little touches such as tea, coffee and kitchen roll etc which all made it feel like a home from home.
And the views...wow! Spectacular views from every room meant that eating in and coming back for a G&T on the balcony was a real pleasure.
Thank you for a wonderful stay. We hope to come back and visit again!

Home from home
A beautiful cottage, immaculately presented and well equipped. All fixtures, fittings and appliances are of very high quality. Lovely comfortable bed, with white cotton linen. The best bit of all is the incredible view over Dartmouth harbour from the lounge and kitchen. Sit and watch the ever-changing sky as the sun goes down - it’s breathtaking. It’s worth mentioning here that to get to the cottage you have to walk up a very steep hill (not very far,). We loved our stay and plan on returning.

Perfect view
The view from the house and balcony is just great, you cannot wish for more, watching sunset was a great pleasure.
The house is very comfortable and very clean. There is everything you might need maybe with an exception of the coffee machine, sorry but I am a big coffee drinker.
There are lots of interesting places to visit around and crossing the river is a big attraction as well. On The other side of the river you have a big selection of restaurants and bars. There are also two pubs and café on the side of the river where the house is. I would highly recommend this place!

First holiday in a long time!
Great experience from initial enquiry to checking out (which we didn’t want to do).
A perfect cottage, views were so amazing! Cottage was equipped with everything we needed, clean and freshly finished. Clear and plenty of need to know information, which we found so useful. We enjoyed pizza from the old local The Ship Inn & Rockfish fish & chips. Ferries were easy to use. Discovered a lovely walk around the creek next to the railway line. So much to do. We will definitely be back to stay at lovely chapel house!

Beautiful location and views
We loved Chapel Hill! Kingswear and Dartmouth are such cute towns with much to see and explore. The house was perfect - fantastic views from the upstairs and well equipped with everything we needed. We would definitely stay again!

Lovely Kingswear
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were a group of 4 adults and had plenty of space. The kitchen/diner became the focal point when we were in the house with views to die for. Close to Dartmouth town and getting around by foot was no problem at all. Loved it!

Great location and ideal for what we wanted!
Great place to take a break from the Midlands. Easily accessible and a fantastic property to spend time in and also a good position to explore Kingswear and Dartmouth.

Excellent views. Cosy & Comfortable.
We had a great weekend at Chapel House. The property has two spacious double bedrooms, each with en-suites. A very sizeable and well-equiped kitchen-diner and a cosy lounge. Immaculately presented. All rooms have large panoramic windows overlooking the harbour which make for a great view at the Breakfast table.
The property is a short walk away from the ferries, the railway station and pubs. It is perfectly located just high enough for an unobstructed view of the river and harbour without having a strenuous hike back home on an evening (make a note of the last ferry back (11pm) if staying late in Dartmouth). Parking is included although it is not possible to drive right to the front door so pack wisely.
The owner was very knowlegable about the local area and suggested many activities, including a few local walks. We appreciated his suggestion to have breakfast at the Bistro down the road. Tasty.
Would certainly recommend and we will be returning in the future.

Beautiful and cosy
Nicely equipped with a beautiful view over the estuary to Dartmouth. We were fortunate with some sunshine and only a short walk to the coastal paths. Fantastic.

Magical
I have just spent an amazing few days at Chapel House. I really recommend it for a comfortable quiet break. The views from all rooms are across the River Dart and are quite magical day and night. Within easy walking distance of the
ferry across to Dartmouth and also very close to several National trust properties as well coastal walks and beaches not too far away.
Enjoy.

Peaceful and perfect.
A beautifully restored house with fine attention to detail. Could have just sat and stared at the views all day: always something going-on on the river. The house is a perfect base for the many things to do in the area. The owners are efficient, helpful and friendly to deal with. A lovely experience.

Relaxing Stay
Relaxing and quiet spot just over the river from Dartmouth, the local walking is extensive and the beautiful coastline paths are hardly used in December. A great time to visit out of the peak season. Will hopefully return next year.

Wonderful cottage in heart of the village
This cottage is a great base to explore this part of Devon. It has everything you could want, it's spacious, cosy, clean and well-equipped. A beautiful part of the world and couldn't have asked for better accommodation. We will recommend to friends.

Lovely, comfortable home from home
This is a really lovely cottage. So well-equipped and amongst the best holiday accommodation we’ve ever stayed in. The local Kingswear pubs are very near and the owner Colin gave us some great advice on where to eat and drink in Dartmouth. Still a lot going on in November. Glad we visited.

So great, we’ve already re-booked!
Lovely views up the river Dart and over Dartmouth town, the Naval College and rolling hills. Parking was provided, handy to be able to come and go as we wished but in the end we only used the car once! Just a short 10 min walk/ferry from Dartmouth with all the cafes and pubs. We had a very enjoyable few days.

Cozy and quiet location
Very close to everything Kingswear and Dartmouth has to offer. Really nicely laid out and well equipped. Such a relaxing stay, we loved watching the boats and steam train coming and going. Thank you
