Situated in the vibrant community of Widcombe in a little row of terraces, this thoughtfully renovated home has everything neatly stacked up. There is a spacious and comfortable room on each of its 3 floors, all of which are connected by an impressive and original winding stone staircase. Beside the kitchen is a small walled courtyard equipped with a gas BBQ for alfresco dining. Widcombe Parade around the corner has good pubs, fine dining, mini supermarket, coffee shops and take-outs.
The pavement entrance leads directly into the large, bright fitted kitchen with a glazed door and window onto the courtyard. There is an original and ornate, cast iron fireplace packed with decorative logs. Beside this is a handsome circular wood table with 4 upholstered chairs. The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, 2 electric ovens, microwave, a small fridge with freezer compartment, a small dishwasher and a washing machine. There is a coffee machine, a digital radio and plenty of crockery and cooking utensils, with utility items stored under the stairs.
Outside, in a small courtyard topped with ivy, is a large table for 4 with two chairs, a bench and a gas BBQ. Above the courtyard a steeply terraced garden path with tumbling greenery, leads up to a private access road with allocated parking for 1 car.
All the rooms have deep front and rear original sash windows, with thick Bath stone walls and treads that are still visible all the way up the atmospheric narrow staircase. It could have been designed by Ralph Allen himself, to showcase his local stone mines from which Bath was built. Carpeted and cosy, the first floor is now a living room and cloakroom and on the second is a bedroom with en-suite shower room.
The stylish living room in deep grey, dark wood and amethyst has a large indulgent ‘L’-shaped sofa for 5. This can be made up as a double sofa bed, or two single sofa beds. On the wall is a large TV and Sonos sound bar, with Netflix for movie nights and WI-Fi.
On this floor is a contemporary cloakroom tiled in travertine. There is a large hand-basin with storage under, a WC and an additional small storage cupboard for toiletries.
On the top floor under the eaves, is an elegant double bedroom in soft greys, with pretty limed oak furniture. There is secondary glazing to the front and views of steep terraces and little gardens to the rear. A large wardrobe has shelves and drawers for further storage, along with a dressing table and stool, hairdryer and clothes rail. The bed can be made up as either a 6’ superking or 2 single beds to suit your requirements.
The en-suite shower room is tiled in travertine and has a walk-in shower with overhead rainfall or handheld set, a small hand-basin and WC.
The property has a private parking space for one car behind the property. Please note, it is a narrow lane if you have a very large car. Alternatively the Bath Spa train and coach stations are less than a 5 minute walk away.

The living room and bedroom were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well provided in every way. I appreciated all the soap, washing up liquid, loo roll, etc. that was there, as well as the welcome milk in the fridge. You can arrive and straight away have a cuppa (tea bags and coffee were there too) and use the loo, without even starting to unpack.
There was plenty of hot water, but the shower is touchy. The temperature adjustment goes from not quite warm enough to ow! too hot! with the tiniest movement. I'd recommend turning the shower to the wall until you've adjusted it, and think millimetres not centimetres!
I would have liked better ventilation (roadside windows can't be opened) I assume this is because of traffic noise.
It needs to be made clearer that turning into the parking space from Prior Park Lane is not an option if you have a long car, or a bike rack on the back, because of a very tight turn into that end of Millbrook Lane. The directions are good, but could be clearer on this point.
The house really is as near to the shops as advertised, and there are some good cycle paths nearby. The ones along the canal and the Bath to Bristol railway are flat; the Two Tunnels ride really isn't! If you're thinking of hiring ebikes, we found that the hire shops are all shut on Sundays, so best not to plan a long ride then.

Loved our stay, loved the property. Bed was very comfortable, and the kitchen well equipped. Just a few minutes walk to a delicious coffee shop, as well as a butcher. The one small bit we could change is the tiny parking alley. We rented a car for a day trip, and had difficulty getting into the small parking spot. However, other cars in the alley were parked just fine! It was just us with the issue, and we would definitely stay again - without parking.

Lovely place, great view. The beds were comfortable, as was the sofa. We couldn't find a few items, but it didn't matter much. Appreciated how easy it was to walk to the Co-op and in to city attractions. Overall, would definitely stay again!

To start with the positives this period property is in a lovely location only 19minutes walk from Bath city centre. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay & the bed was very comfortable. The negatives were access to the property is very tricky the lane with the parking space is extremely narrow & steep. The rear access consists of lots of stone steps do not good for elderly people.
The property is looking a bit tired it needs a refresh. Cleanliness needs improvement there were lots of cobwebs & shower & bathroom doors were not cleaned to a good standard.
Very good communication with management agency & nice touch of milk & biscuits being left for us.
Overall we were happy with our stay.

The house is perfectly located, just a short walk into the centre of Bath. It had everything we needed and was very nicely decorated, although some areas of cleanliness in the bathroom and cutlery let it down slightly. Overall, it’s a great place to stay and pet-friendly with a parking space which was a big bonus - the space is extremely tight but would be no issue for smaller cars.

Nice location, quiet. Short walk into town.

This property is highly recommended for its location to the town centre and train station, but it has an added bonus of a free car parking space.

Tiny cottage that works very well for a couple (in our case our grown up daughter joined us for two days which also was fine).
We live in Australia but Bath is my birth place. This trip brought me straight back home.
The Georgian workers terrace was saved from demolition in the 1960’s by a friend I knew. Lucky intervention.

Nice to see what has been done to repurpose an old structure. The location is great - an easy walk from the railroad station, easy access to Bath city center and to a lovely walk along the Avon river. A very nice place to relax!

This stonemason's cottage dating back to c1740 is perfect for a stay in Bath & to have a parking space is an huge bonus. It's a short walk to the city centre & the canal is approx 2 mins down the road. We will definitely stay at Ralph Allen Cottage again.

Had a lovely 3 night stay in this property. The house is very comfortable with a well equipped large kitchen, really comfortable lounge to relax in and a lovely bedroom with a large bed and luxurious bedding. The house is warm and cosy. Just one suggestion to improve the property even more is to have a look at the shower. The controls on the shower are a little worn and sensitive which means the water temperature can sometimes change unexpectedly so a new shower might be timely. Overall a great property, in a great location which we would definitely book again.

This house is located in a fabulous neighborhood in Bath, just across the river from the train station. Around the corner from the house is short commercial block with everything you need, cafe, pub/restaurants, quick-markets, boutique shops and a pharmacy. There is even a doctors office for emergencies!
Just up the hill is a park with a fabulous view of Bath, but the walk will require some huffing-and puffing before you get to the view. It was quite the climb!

Beautiful cottage exactly as per the photographs. Well equiped kitchen. Comfortable bed. Great communication and unusually for Bath a parking space. As others have said the road is very narrow and we have quite a wide car, but it was perfectly doable.
We ate at the white Hart on the corner of the road one eveing. Great gastropub.

We really enjoyed our stay at Ralph Allen Cottage. It’s a very well-equipped and comfortable house in a great situation. We loved the huge and very comfy bed and the kitchen and bathrooms were clean and well furnished. There was lots of storage space in the bedroom and a large sofa and tv in the living room (we did spend quite some time wondering how they got all the very large furniture up the spiral staircase!).
We liked Widcombe and would recommend the two pubs nearby, we had lovely meals at both. Would also recommend the cafe and farm shop at the nearby garden centre (turn right out of the front door). We only discovered it in on the day we were leaving and wished we’d found it earlier.
It was a very quick and easy walk to the city centre and we never used the car at all.
Having a parking space was very useful but the turn at one end is tight. The steps down to the house are quite steep and a bit overgrown and green - it was damp when we arrived and slippy. Would recommend quickly unloading on the main road rather than carrying bags down.

We had this little trip booked for a while and kept getting postponed due to Lockdown restrictions constantly changing.
We finally got away with our little dog for a few days and we were not disappointed, timing worked out perfectly as the Lockdown restrictions had just lifted, which meant pub gardens were open 👏🏻
The house was absolutely stunning and was the perfect choice for what we were looking for. Perfectly located, within walking distance of everything we wanted.
Finding the parking and getting to the entrance of the property was a little difficult, but we got there in the end.
We would definitely come back.

Ideal staycation location
Charming, well-appointed 3 storey cottage with private paved patio garden, providing all home comforts including welcome for a Maine Coon cat also needing a change of scene after lock-down. Spacious enough to host a grown son and partner for a couple of nights, as well. Delivered with superb and caring customer service, set in the heart of Widcombe across the street from an artisanal gin distillery, down the road from an exceptional garden centre and farm shop, and around the corner from excellent restaurants and friendly pub.
