The friendly hotel staff and non-corporate hotel made a nice atmosphere. We felt really welcome. Given free drinks when we arrived and tour of facilities. Good breakfast included in price. Nice quite location but not too far from Tulum center and historic ruins.

Everything about it was great. The staff was amazing and the food was first class

Penthouse rooftop room with plunge pool was simple but quite nice. Included breakfasts were delicious, everything on the menu was great! AC worked perfectly, mini fridge was stocked with beverages.
rooftop room balcony plunge pool was not as private as expected. Still can see through the wall into neighbor's balcony. Top floor (3rd) and no elevator made it a hike in a heat. The beach is not swimmable (uneven rocks) but they have a dock that leads to less rocky spot to swim. Definitely not a good beach for small kids.

I was very very disappointed by my stay at Aléa
The room was fine, however the beach only had a couple of beds for the entire hotel guests, we had to fight for beds every day
The ocean was full of rocks, which was not disclosed on the property when I made my decision. This made it impossible to swim or jump in the water
The food at the restaurant was not good, and the service was incredibly slow
The hotel is so so far from the center, at least 30-40min away from the hotel and restaurant zone. The road is very bumpy from the hotel to the main road, our driver spent at least 15min to leave the hotel every time.

The beautiful design, decor, ambiance, very quiet, nice people, perfect place on the beach. Love going to the sister hotels to eat.
Not much we didn’t like. Maybe just the seaweed but they can’t really control that.

I love how quiet it is in that area, no craziness like tulum beach. Place is super clean, staff is extremely pleasant and helpful.
About resort, everything is perfect

What a hidden gem this place is. Alea is set away from the bustle and traffic of Tulum. The accommodations were top notch, the amenities were amazing, the staff and service was bar none and most importantly it was nice to be away from the main area. I would highly recommend a rental car if you are staying here and plan to explore at all or even wan to head downtown because taxis are +/- $25 US each way from the Hotel and back. That said we rented a car for a couple days when we arrived and did not need it the entire time.

The staff were so helpful and friendly in particular Franzcelia who not only arranged honeymoon decorations and bubbly in our room but also helped arrange a car to collect us after we had an 8hour delay on arrival due to BA flight. Delicious freshly prepared breakfast each day, very relaxing stay. Also it was close to a Cenote which we went to, you couldn’t see many fish but apparently there is a friendly crocodile in there!
I had read the reviews regarding seaweed and stones in sea making it difficult to swim and I thought maybe its not as bad as they have said but it was too rocky for me to swim, I tried to go out with sea shoes on but it was too slippery for me, some other people went In further up the beach and you could climb into water off the end of the pier but I am not a confident swimmer so I was not keen to do that. As for the seaweed its a common problem everywhere in Mexico and some hotels including this one try to clear it as much as possible in front of hotel but its hard to keep on top of. My only other complaint was noise from road as we backed onto it.

Beautiful hotel relatively small on a white sand beach. The rooms are spacious nicely decorated, luminous with balconies over the sea. Breakfast is amazing and staff super helpful and attentive. Next to the hotel there is a cenote where lives Panchito the crocodile!! You can even swim next to the crocodile
Everything was perfect but you
need a car to be able to go around

Alea Tulum is a very special place. The staff is kind, helpful, and great at what they do. The breakfasts are outstanding and the hotel restaurant was my favorite of all the places we tried. Franciela, Pedro, and Sebastian made our stay so joyful and the cleaning staff went above and beyond. This is a quiet hotel for a relaxing vacation that prioritizes peace, comfort, and wellness.
I wish I would have known that the beach was rocky. So we couldn't really swim on the beach from the shore. But there is a dock that you can walk out onto and swim from there which was just as good.

location on the water was superb. we had a room with direct beach access and lounge chairs and hammock right on the water. We enjoyed breakfast outside on our patio. very private. very clean. extremely friendly staff. Quiet. warm water.
very small but it grew on us over time. by the end of week didn’t want to leave. the lounge chairs were falling apart and cushions need updating. the place is isolated which I loved but took my husband a while to get used to. 15 min cab ride to downtown.

The staff were great, so friendly and always willing to help. The hotel is airy and clean and had everything we needed. The WiFi was fast. The food was good. Our room had plenty of space for 3 girls with lots of luggage, luxurious linen and beautiful ocean views, with complementary bar fridge contents which were restocked every day at no additional cost. The hotel itself is small, right on the doorstep of the beach, tranquil and quiet, with an atmosphere conducive to peace and rest - and that is just what we needed after crazy partying in Cancun over New Years.
The hotel is out of the way & it costs 500 pesos to get to Tulum centre even though it’s less than a 15 minute drive. Everything in general was way too expensive (hotel restaurant - even water costs a fortune!) but I guess that’s Tulum for you. We booked a room for 3 adults & the extra bed space for the 3rd person was actually a sofa bed which was quite uncomfortable. They should just say their rooms are for two. The food is good but it takes way too long for them to make it. We eventually had to call to order breakfast ahead of time in the mornings in order to make it to our tours, cause they take forever to make it. Also, the cleaning staff only clean the rooms in the afternoon which is a little annoying because we left at 8am for a full day tour & got back after 4pm very tired & just wanting to rest in a clean room & they still hadn’t cleaned it.

This is a beautiful and small boutique hotel, with very comfortable rooms, which are clean and well taken care of. In this particular boutique hotel they include a small mini bar and Nespresso Machine/capsules with the room price, and I think this is a very nice touch, as many smaller hotels don’t include this and they make you pay extra. They also give you free WiFi and for this area, was excellent coverage. It was really great to have this in our room. The food in the hotel is really good, with actually a lot to choose from and it is presented really well. We really loved the beach area, as it is so peaceful and relaxing. If you want to get away from the world and be in a place where you feel you have your own private beach, then this is a great location. The staff were very friendly, professional and our waiter for breakfast was so pleasant and such a lovely man. We pre-paid for breakfast in the price of our room and it was excellent compared to what other boutique hotels offer. They had so many choices and the breakfast was really tasty and fresh. The chef deserves a mention for his food creations and quality. On the night we stayed there was a very nice singer as entertainment, which we enjoyed listening too. It made the evening really relaxing and enjoyable.
Unfortunately, as beautiful as this hotel is, I was very disappointed with our room. This hotel is still under construction and nowhere was this pointed out during the booking process. I had booked a swim-out room to simply relax in and had been looking forward to swimming in our pool area and sipping on some cocktails. However, I was shocked to discover that when I was getting in the pool I saw MANY huge rusty nails on the pool floor and other construction materials floating in the pool. Obviously, this is very dangerous and not at all what a customer expects to find in such a beautiful high-end boutique hotel. I spoke with the lady in reception and gave her some of the nails from the pool, but there were too many to pick up. She was nice about the situation and offered to change us to another room, but that room was without a pool, so in our minds it was pointless to change rooms if it didn’t have a pool that we paid for. She said as it was late afternoon there was no one to clean the pool so we couldn’t use it and she told us that someone one come first thing in the morning to clean it out, but unfortunately when the pool guy came in the morning all he did was the usual testing of the water and general clean-up of leaves. None of the nails or construction debris was picked up, instead it was all kind of pushed to a different part of the pool, which made no sense and unfortunately we still couldn’t use the pool. My advice to the owners of this hotel is, don’t open if you are STILL under construction. Tourists to the region of Riviera Maya are going there for peace and quiet and do not expect to noise from the construction or a pool that looks stunning, but can’t be used. For anyone reading this, this hotel chain has other hotels in the same area, that seem to be completed and therefore I would advise you to maybe look at staying at one of the other hotels until this one is finished. So disappointed to have had this experience, as I’m sure if there was no construct

A bit remote. Small swimming pool

We almost had the beach to ourselves in this area. They offer use of kayaks, paddle boards and snorkelling equipment on the beach (even allowed us to take the gear to a cenote for the day)
The hotel also offered a snorkelling tour for free with the sister hotels, unfortunately we dropped out of it due to the weather.
Breakfast was ordered on the phone, made fresh and brought to our room every day
Access to this hotel is difficult (only by car) from Tulum centre, highly recommend hiring own car to drive as taxi rates were very high

The beach is beautiful and the rooms are extremely comfortable. Staff is very helpful and attentive. when I checked in I was really sick and they sent me electrolytes and checked in on me a lot since I was solo. It was really appreciated.
they really should not be open during the renovation of the rooftop or at the very least, charge less. it’s extremely loud all the time. you can’t even relax on the beach with it. then it seems the restaurant turns up their music way louder in response so you have to hear that the rest of the time until 11pm from your room.

If you like being able to enjoy the ocean without the noise of the city, this hotel is a gem. My room was right on the ocean and it was so wonderful. The staff is also amazing. They went above and beyond to make sure that everyone was comfortable. Alejandro especially worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was happy. I can’t thank him enough.
The music from the restaurant was really loud.

When I arrived, I learned that the hotel was undergoing a remodel so they upgraded me to their sister property next door, Nerea. At first, I was confused and a little annoyed because I had just made the reservation 4 days prior and didn't receive any information about remodeling/construction. However, the staff made everything right and gave me an excellent room at Nerea and I had an amazing time. The fitness center is actually at Alea so I did visit the property daily and ate dinner there. Both properties are absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Staff was always very helpful, everything in the mini-fridge was included and the water activities (like kayaking were also included). Staff member, Isabel, was a joy!!
The heads up on the remodel/construction would have been nice and saved some time at check-in but has stated above, the staff took care of the situation and I appreciate them being proactive.

The staff were very kind and helped in everything. Breakfast was good :) The room is comfortable and big.
There were some construction works, which was quite anoying as you want to relax.
The taxis to town are really expensive, though it’s not the hotel’s fault.

This is a small hotel, very well suited if you enjoy your tranquility and privacy. We got the oceanfront room and we loved the view and the fact that the room was large enough and very bright and sunny, unlike other places we stayed in Tulum. The sunrise is simply stunning and you can see it from your own balcony while having coffee. Coffee machine in the room and minibar refilled with water, juice and beer every day, free of charge. The bed was huge and comfortable. Bathroom is very clean and the shower is separated from the toilet, which is very convenient. Also, the water had no smell and there was good pressure all day long, which cannot be said about other accomodations we staued i. Tulum. The Hotel also provided canoes and paddle boards free of charge. Free parking across the street.
we had breakfast included and a nice varitey to choose from every morning.
First thing we noticed when we arrived was that they were building another floor on top of the hotel so the whole place was a construction site. However, the workers were discrete and worked convenient hours (not early in the morning not late at night and not in the weekends) We also got a room upgrade because of this.
There was also a lot of construction being done in the neighbourhood.
There’s not much going on in the neighbourhood, so you would need a car to move around. That did nkt bother us. We did not like the food at the hotel restaurant at all. We got a 10% off voucher to use at 2 other hotels nearby and were not impressed by the food there either.
The sea bed is rocky so you need water shoes. The hotel provides some, but not sizes available. There’s also the nice wooden bridge that you could use to get into the water.
The thing that bothered us the most was the noise coming from the entertainment at the restaurant downstairs. The bedroom door does not do a good job isolating the sound from outside. The music stopped before midnight.

The noise from construction was unbearable. Franzie was exceptionally helpful in finding a room for us at hotel mereva, which was excellent.
7.0 / 10.0
Beautiful location, nice rooms, clean
The bar and restaurant waitstaff were very unfriendly, to the point that it is uncomfortable. The food is mediocre to bad - recommend walking down the street to restaurants at Mereva or Nerea. Same owners, so it is a mystery why the food and service is so much worse at Alea.
