This was just a wonderful stay. The hosts could not be more kind, generous, and inviting. It is a nice quiet village, with restaurants and cafes and bakeries and grocery stores nearby. Can't say enough how wonderful it was.

Hideo and his wife were the absolute best hosts! The accommodation was so clean and very traditional which is what we were looking for. Hideo took us on an amazing fish tour where we picked fish at a fish market and cooked it ourselves and made chop sticks, toured thatched roof homes, sake brewery, bamboo forest and monkeys! We also had the best ramen and his wife made us sashimi with the fish we bought at the market. It was an amazing experience and the place was even better than we thought! We even got to see June Firefly’s at night! Hideo is a true ambassador for Japan and very considerate of the locals and in educating us foreigners! We highly recommend their VRBO to travelers of all ages!

We had a wonderful time at this farmhouse and it was all we imagined. The home was beautiful and well maintained. Very spacious for the four of us. The hosts are lovely people who went out of their way to make our stay perfect. The area has several great places to visit such as the thatched roof village, a special soba restaurant and the sake brewery. The scenery is spectacular. Highly recommend!!

Hideo and Yukako provided an amazing experience for our family. We wanted to experience a more traditional countryside experience during our trip and they were incredibly accommodating. Yukako was so kind to pick us up from the bus stop and had such a bright and welcoming personality. She offered to take us to a local bakery, which was great. She showed us around their beautiful home, which was well kept and had all the amenities we needed. It even included a beautiful piano, which our family loved, and an amazing massage chair, which was very helpful with all the walking we had been doing during our trip.
Hideo worked with us to put together custom day tours and was very flexible with working with our interests. He also provided all the transportation, which was very convenient. He took us to numerous different local spots, from the fish market to a chopstick museum to a local waterfall, to name a few. He was a great tour guide! For two of our dinners, Yukako taught us how to make hand rolls with the seafood we got from the fish market and other traditional Japanese dishes. She is a wonderful cook and I highly recommend doing dinner with them. We shared so many laughs over dinner. They also have 3 wonderful dogs that made the stay even more enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed all the memories we made on this trip, thanks to having such wonderful hosts. We highly recommend staying here! Thank you Yukako and Hideo for all the laughs and fun memories.

Where to begin!?
Everything about this was a dream. It is difficult to find a place to stay with an infant under one year. But this was perfect for our family.
Even though we arrived late at the bus stop, Hideo was there to pick us up. Make sure to bring snacks and dinner after riding the Shinkansen and bus into town. Maybe something for the morning but if not, there is a cool cafe for the mornings if needed.
The property is charming and reminiscent of a time long ago while still having all modern amenities. If you forgot any necessity, the had it (toothbrush, brush, hair products, body products etc.)
Kyoto area was green, lush, and earthy. It feels like what westerners think of traditional Japan.
Beds were soft yet firm and comfortable to sleep two adults and a baby in the middle. Lots of blankets if needed. The house was decorated very cool!
There is traditional seating or western dining setting, the fridge / kitchen tools was perfect for our stay.
In the mornings we went on family walks around the town before adventuring on our custom tours Hideo created for us.
Our favorite was going to the fish market and purchasing fish to be cooked at the house that evening. Oh my goodness it was the best meal of the trip!!!!
He was able to show us the highlights of the area without feeling like we were tourists. In fact, most of the places we went, we didn’t see any American tourists!
Hideo and his wife treated us as family. We will be back and bringing friends! 💗💗

Hideo and his wife are lovely people. Hideo was there to pick us up at the bus when we arrived and anytime we ventured back to Kyoto. He also was our tour guide for a day making our travels very informative and fun. Food prepared by ukoco? Was delicious and both Hideo and ukoco’s company was so wonderful. If you want to be out of the city this is the place to be. Maybe a bit far if you want to explore Kyoto as bus does take over an hour. We all (4) thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Thank you so much, Hideo-San and Yukako-San, for your kind and generous hospitality during our stay at your wonderful home!
Hideo-San met us at the bus stop and from there the adventures began. We got lunch from a farmers market, and then visited a local shrine and refreshing onsen after dropping off our bags and having a bite. Dinner was fried delights at a spot down the road.
After a good night's rest at Tokuhei-an's spacious rooms, Hideo-San drove us to the Obama fish market to pick up fresh mackerel, red snapper, shrimp and squid to grill for lunch. After more sightseeing around Obama Bay, a stop by a Chopstick Museum and Gift Shop, and a visit to the Miyama thatched roof village, we returned to the house to rest up for the evening's feast.
Yukako-San, who has experience cooking at a Michelin-starred restaurant, sliced up and prepared fresh Obama tuna, squid, shrimp and sea urchin for sushi hand rolls. Delightful eggplant, potato salad and miso soup accompanied the seafood, along with home-grown shiso leaves and ice cold beer and sake.
A legendary night!
Our trip was all the while enhanced by Hideo-san's engaging stories, witty jokes, infectious laughter, Nihon-go tips and reflections on life.
The house was super comfortable and well-equipped, including kitchen equipment and air-conditioning system. It was perfect for our group of six, including two kids.
Thank you again Hideo-San and Yukako-San for hosting us and for providing lifelong memories - Okagesama de!

If you wish a create a magical opportunity to sink into Nature, silence and beauty, look no further. Hideo and his wife offer the restored, yet simple elegance of his family’s 200 year farm house as your nest. Since this home is in the compound with theirs it is not 100% your own, yet you have the feeling of privacy and the convenience of two friendly souls to answer questions, needs or just chat both at once. Close your sliding doors and you are alone in another time. Open them and seek your hosts and they offer what you need with charm and grace.
Please make sure to take advantage of Hideo’s knowledge of the best sites to tour in region and then relax as your friendly hosts drives, guides and charms your day away.
Bicycling in the village valley is such a treat as are walks around the neighborhood.
If you want a taste of rural Japanese life and still not too far from Kyoto, you will make this choice with SUPER HOSTS.
I totally charmed to my full delight.

This was our first trip to Japan and Hideo and his wife made our stay exceptional. The house was beautiful, spacious and very clean. They also enlightened us on several Japanese customs and prepared traditional Japanese meals for us. I ate octopus for the first time-awesome!!! We are so looking forward to going back to Japan and staying here again.

Hideo and Yukako were very gracious and welcoming hosts. The house was large enough for our group of 4 adults and 1 teenager, although another bathroom in the house would have been more convenient. The house is not luxurious but it is comfortable. My elderly parents had a daily challenge to go up and down the few steps in the house.
Hideo also led us on tours all the days of our stay, at an additional cost.

Absolutely friendly hosts who helped us enjoy our stay. Lots of conversations with our hosts during home-cooked dinners we had with Hideo-san and Yukako-san. Yukako-san was also such a great cook.
Definitely recommend their accommodation to anyone looking for a different experience in the Kyoto countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of crowded city locations

I’ve been looking forward to stay in this house when I see the pictures posted. Tokuheian is exactly as the pictures posted. Every corner is well made and preserved by the owner.
Before I arrive, I’ve contacted Hideo-san and have asked many questions before I made the reservation. He’s been very responsive, patience and helpful with all my questions. I’ve asked him where can I get a fine-dining restaurant as on the day of arrival, it’s my husband’s birthday. He’s suggested me to get something special for my important man. He’s helped me to get a birthday cake and recommended me to get some food from the supermarket to cook sukiyaki. He even offered me that Yukako-san, his wife can help me to pick some vegetables from the farm and help me to cut into pieces. I didn’t take the offer as i don’t want to interrupt their evening. The cake was nice and my husband was very happy and surprised! The only regret we had was we didn’t invite them to join us as my mother and kids were shy!
During my stay, I used the kitchen very often. We cooked sukiyaki two nights in a row. You can get very nice beef and food from the supermarket nearby. The kitchen was well equipped with all you need especially the Dish Washer which I love the most
Thanks to the watermelon from Hideo-san. It’s so sweet just like both of them. I came with my own family together with my mother and my sister, so I didn’t spend much time with Hideo-san and Yukako-san whom I found they are very kind and helpful. I would love to spend more time with them to know more about this house and about them. The house is a reflection of the owners – very warm and unique.
I would definitely come back and stay in this house again. Highly recommend to family as the house is well equipped with all you need.

We love Tokuhei-an homestay so much that we felt so homely with premium hospitality from our best hosts and hostess, Hideo San and his lovely wife Yukako, together with their cute Azuki and Gon. We felt immediate connection with the place and surrounding since we entered Keihoku area, then magic happened the moment we stepped into this special house where Hideo called home ever since he was baby. The experience exceeds our expectations. We've never thought of having such wonderful holiday.
Thanks for the vegetables, onions and fruits picked from your farm. Thanks for the countless trips to the grocery and convenience stores. Thanks for the unforgettable tour to the magical giant cedar. Thanks for the trip to Obama for our special seafood hunting at the fish market including puffer fish, hot spring, fireflies watching, grape farm visiting and also we enjoyed your curry!!!!!. Thanks for making our memories priceless…
