Room / bathroom and toiletries really nice. Bar was olde worlde and comfortable and breakfast excellent.

No hummus available for shared starter. £17.50 for one pan fried smallish trout fillet excessive although it was nicely cooked and tasty. No cheese for cheese board and black forest pavlova lacking any filling and cream - it was just meringue with a squirt of cream on top with a drizzle of compote. Nice ice cream though.

Had to ask for towels, milk and tea. Breakfast not great. Thought it would be a bit more special and not cheap bacon ans sausage. No fresh fruit. Waitess a bit grumpy.

Polite, helpful, friendly staff. Good bed, towels and bathroom. Good garden. A dog welcoming venue...rather nice.

Carpet a little grubby...either needs a more frequent shampoo or needs to be dispensed with. Food not always to ideal standard...mass catering standards ...which I am not really entitled to criticise as it is a pub not a restaurant. Personally I would have preferred a much reduced breakfast menu with all ingredients cooked from scratch and locally sourced rather than out of plastic tubs. Some pubs do manage this...been there, eaten it!! Take away the exotics ( no idea what they had done to the mashed avocado but it was awful. ...gave up trying to eat it) and stick with good British basics....preferably organic. The evening meals were certainly better than the disappointing breakfasts and the pub has a good atmosphere. Yes...the road is a bit of a problem but more so for me was the non-stop overnight hummmmmmmm from one of the cooler units in the bar underneath the room. This was very kindly turned off at 11pm by the manager for our second and third nights.

Pet hair not cleaned off the carpet before we arrived, to be fair they offered to remove the pet charge. Bed not made. No hot water on the morning of departure nobody to report it to, until 9:30 30 min before checkout at breakfast. Spoke with the landlord who agreed £90 compensation for the lot and said he would call the next day, he never called. I called the landlady 2 days later she said she would discuss it with the landlord and call back, never called back. We called 5 days after staying eventually some employee called back to renegotiate, offered £50 and claimed the hot water was fixed, which it was not while we were there. What I object to is paying £140 a night for a hotel room without hot water, and management who make an agreement on compensation and don't stick to it. On that basis I rejected the £50 and could not recommend this place to anyone, there is plenty of choice in Sidmouth.

The breakfast was lovely, nicely cooked and ample portions, tea fruit juice served with breakfast, service was excellent, dining area was very comfortable and friendly.

The location was good and the breakfasts were delicious! staff were friendly and it was very dog friendly and welcoming.

noisy on a busy road , I thought the rooms would be at the rear of property but we were put in a very noisy room next to the road . The room we booked was deluxe but didn’t feel it !
