Rooms were abit dated wallpaper off in places .. I booked 4 rooms for my family and requested a upgrade on my room as I had offered extra money but they declined it .. when getting the rooms another member of my family got the free upgrade and the room was a massive difference to the one I had

Full of character with it being John Barry’s Childhood home (Blue Plaque on the wall at the front of the hotel) Lovely cooked English breakfast with plenty of choice and large portions. Staff were fantastic !

Disappointing that we had to pay for parking when staying at the hotel (£8.50) - considering that it’s not in the centre and on our previous stay it was included in the price.

Around 5am, the water from the shower in the room above started leaking into our room onto the bed. Nothing we could do, but a broken night's sleep. Reported to the front desk on checking out, apology received but no confidence that the problem would be resolved for future customers. The room temperature in the breakfast rooms was too cold.

Thank you - the room, facilities and WiFi are great. The location is really good and in a walking distance to other interesting places. The building style is interesting.

Excellent value, gorgeous building, peaceful stay and exceptionally friendly staff. The hotel is right on several main bus routes into the city centre. We had the pizza that they offer in the evenings which was also tasty.

The quality of the breakfast doesn't quite match the standard of the rest of the hotel, but it was still good. Also the bed was rock solid which may be comfy for some, but not my personal taste.

It was too hot!

We arrived early for our stay and was checked in quickly and allowed to leave our car in the car park until such time that we could return to collect our room key. The reception staff gave us information about buses into York and where to get off, etc. I managed to drop my debit card in the hotel during our stay and it was promptly found and returned to me by a diligent member of staff before I even realised it was gone! The hotel has some lovely little outside areas which would be great in the summer, and a fabulous guest lounge which we had a quiet drink in one afternoon. Comfy bed, amazingly powerful shower, pleasant helpful staff.

The bathroom could do with a little tlc as there are areas of mould and black sealant in the shower. This was probably due to a lack of an extractor fan and only a small window for ventilation which left the walls and ceiling soaking after a shower (but that maybe due to the age of the building). The light/razor point above the sink didn't work ( reported). A point I need to make was that we received an email after booking to say the restaurant was permanently closed. This was one of the reasons we booked this particular hotel, and this should have been made clear within the listing. I understand the restaurant is still functioning but is not serving lunch and dinner as before and this has misled people to book, especially when they then cannot get a refund. That is just not right.

charged all rooms to my card before arrival meaning everyone had to do international bank transfers to me, when we booked were told pay on arrival. also checked someone else into our rooms so had to move us.

Hotel was in a great location

It wasn't a cheap hotel by any stretch. The bed was uncomfortable, the carpet was stained, the radiator in the bathroom was rusty and there was a hole I'm the bathroom celing. The entire room looked like it was decorated in the 90s and was really tired. The staff didn't ask us how our stay was when we were leaving and after we told them how disappointed we were with the stay they just shrugged and told us they were in the middle of renovations.

We thought we had breakfast included and apparently we didn't - the website was not clear We did not expect to have to pay for car parking at the hotel - that was not clear either

There was a very rude member of staff who served us breakfast and essentially belittled us in the tone he spoke to us , this overall ruined the experience for me and therefore wouldn't be willing to recommend this place based on one staff members inability to interact with customers, we watched this older gentleman speak down to another family who were clearly uncomfortable with this interaction. Also the price of paying 8.50 for 24hrs of parking at the hotel is very steep.
